“How long of a moment are we talking with Harry Potter? If you tell me like a decade then I’m going to have judge you. Was it that you just didn’t jump on the craze or was it just hard to get into after a few movies it got better for you?” Toni nodded. “I hope so but she’s a very harsh critic of things sometimes.”

“Um, let’s just say that I was definitely a few years into my twenties before I read the books.” He replied, laughing at himself a little bit. “I just never really got into them when I was a kid, so I didn’t ever read them. However, as it got bigger, I got more curious and decided to read them after all.” He explained a bit. “Aren’t most kids?”

“I think I avoid those false stories of hope. Of love. Like those weird Lifetime and Hallmark movies where the girl finds the man of her dreams just in time for Christmas? That’s unrealistic. It doesn’t happen in the least. But if it’s like some cutesy comedy. Maybe. Maybe I need to just watch A Christmas Carol on repeat and be visited by ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Me and the main guy have a lot in common. Someone show me some Tiny Tims to open up my heart.” She doubted that would actually happen. Her heart opening up.

“Now, I could never make it through the Hallmark or Lifetime movies. Those are just far too dramatic and it’s the same story every time.” He replied, giving a shrug of his shoulders. “Well, maybe something crazy might happen and you did get visited by ghost. I mean, I’ve heard of weirder happening and maybe it could give you the light you are looking for.” Jacob was joking, knowing something like that was very unlikely to happen, but it was still interesting to think about.

“Yep, that one, though the cartoon puppy is cute too on that one. But I’m talking about the live action one. I loved the underlying story that it told about how corporations try to take advantage of smaller businesses.” Luna frowned as she tried to even remember those movies, but she couldn’t even remember a single detail. “The strangest thing is I can’t even remember the movies and I know I’ve seen at least one.”

“I agree about that. I’ve always liked the real life one better than the cartoon.” He agreed, nodding his head a bit. “And I love the real story about consumerism ruining Christmas. Kind of makes people open their eyes and realize what’s going on.” Jacob continued.  “I feel like that’s how a lot of people feel about those movies. I mean, I remember the story lines of all three, but sometimes I get them a bit mixed up. Well, except for the Christmas one.”

Giving Back || Jackie + Jacob

This was the second time Jackie had volunteered for the holidays. It was maybe an escape from having to go home and relive the memories of her brother, or cry with her parents as they spoke about what he would have loved for Christmas dinner. This way no one had to cry. She could call them, tell them she just couldn’t get away or that she’d made a commitment and couldn’t get out of it.

She at first almost worried about her hair and her clothes and what she’d wear. She didn’t know why, for a moment thinking that she at least wanted to look nice, but then realized no one that she wanted looking would even be paying much attention to her. She threw on some sweats, still did her make up and hair and threw it up into a bun. She’d have a hairnet on anyway.

When she arrived at the shelter, she found Jacob there. “Looks like we’re spending Christmas together,” she said jokingly. But then didn’t want to sound creepy, she almost corrected herself but realized she didn’t care and technically they were. “I’m about to get my sexy on with this hairnet,” she said as she put it on so that she didn’t shed anything into the food. “How are you today?” she asked, washing her hands and getting ready to serve food to those in need.

This was such an admirable thing that he did and she was glad that he told her about because selfish reasons aside it was a great cause.

Having never really been close to any of his foster families and just trying to keep himself busy during the holidays, Jacob had easily began to work at shelters and feeding people on the holidays. It was always such a joy for him for many reasons. Part of it was a little selfish because he got to get away from his family and get out of the house, but the rest of it really was to help. Plus, he got to meet some of the most interesting people when working in these places.

With a simple combination of jeans and a button up red plaid shirt, he made his way out to the local shelter, happy to still be taking part in his normal Christmas traditions. Walking into the shelter he greeted the people who were there, having already made himself acquainted with the people he usually spent the holiday with. Of course he spent the rest of the time he wasn't serving food out by himself, but he didn't completely mind it. It was actually nice from time to time. It was then that he heard a familiar voice, and turned to see Jackie walking next to him.

"Oh, hey, I guess we are." He responded with a small chuckle. Another laugh passed his lips when she mentioned the sexy hair net and he nodded his head, smiling a bit. "Well, I'm sure if anyone could pull it off, it would be you." Jacob spoke, almost unaware of what all he was actually saying. The director internally froze for a second before shaking it off and trying to act normal. "I'm doing good, actually. Had a relaxing morning, so yeah, it was good." He replied, not really having much to talk about in this moment. "But how are you? How has your Christmas been?"

Merry Christmas, man! Hope you like these gifts. The little comic book flowers are for your daughter, thought they were nice. And the cups just seemed fun. Not sure if you have this comic, but it looked pretty cool, so hopefully you like it.

So, I know you love Doctor who and that’s kind of why all your gifts are themed like that. But hopefully you like them. There is a Yahtzee set, cookie jar, and a set of short stories that are based in the universe of the show.

Since we’ve been talking about movies so much, and I had a sneaky suspicion that you haven’t seen there, I got you a collection of Mel Brooks movies. I promise they are hilarious and great, but if you hate them, hopefully you won’t hate me. To go with your movies, I figured I’d get you a snack bucket, because what’s a movie without snacks? Lastly, I saw this cup and I thought you would like it.

Jackie shook her head. “Nope, nope, and nope. I’ve never heard any of that. Actually the only thing close to that name that I know is Grindelwald from Harry Potter. Every time I talk to you I feel like there’s a whole other world of movies that I have yet to see.”

Jacob laughed and shook his head. “Yeah, Griswald and Grindelwald are definitely two different things.” He replied. “But you should definitely watch it. It’s an amazing movie and you could always come over and watch it at my place. Could even order a pizza or something...” Jacob realized he was talking before thinking and grew a little shy when he realized all he had said.

“Yeah I think it’d be cool to watch. I’d love to have some family fun movies to watch with Quinn. I’m trying to merge her into that Harry Potter life, and even that Star Wars life, but I’m pretty sure she’s not feeling it. My baby better be a nerd or else I may be very very sad.”

“I mean, you might just have to let her merge into those on her own. Star Wars was always something I love, but it definitely took me a moment to get into Harry Potter. I was a little behind the curve, but eventually caught up.” Jacob commented. “But I’m sure she’ll love whatever you show her.”

Hey Jacob,

I still know nothing about Star Trek, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get you things. I don’t exactly know what this shirt means but it seems funny and I figured you’d like it. Now…I didn’t remember which color you liked best so I got you three jackets and three shirts, just to be safe. Can’t go wrong if you just buy them all, right?

Jacob smiled and laughed a bit before nodding his head. “I think she would love it. I feel like it’s a really big family movie overall, so I couldn’t imagine her not. Although, there might be some jokes in there she might miss. Or maybe not!” Jacob replied.

But that one doesn’t come on the channel that does the 25 Days of Christmas. Aren’t there a few National Lamppon movies? Or am I thinking of something else?”

“Are you talking about the cartoon Grinch or the live action with Jim Carey? There are a few different ones out there, but the Christmas one is probably my favorite of them all.”

“I don’t really do that whole warm fuzzy thing. So watching movies where it’s all warm and fuzzy and everyone gets their happy endings is sorta cheesy to me because life doesn’t work like that.” She didn’t know when she stopped believing in Christmas movies and warm and fuzzy things, but she learned long ago that life was not in the least bit like the movies. “Now that might be right up my alley is it a comedy?”

“Alright, I get what you mean. Sometimes those movies do get a bit cheesy, but I just can’t stop watching the classics.” He replied, shrugging his shoulders a little bit at the thought. Maybe it was because Jacob didn’t really celebrate big family Christmas’ that made him like those movies. “Yeah, it’s a comedy. I mean, it still has the cheesy family ending, but it’s a great movie. I watch it probably way too many times during the Christmas season.”

Even though almost everyone as on break or close to it Logan was working away, trying to make sure that they’d be a couple more scripts ahead so she could actually enjoy her break. Clicking at the keys as she used her roll around desk and walked around the studio. Stopping as she saw a movie playing in one of the rooms, she smiled as she saw it was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Closing her laptop as she put the desk against the wall, she walked over to the couch and sat down next to Jacob. “Trust me I don’t mind. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. So can I ask your favorite part of this movie or is this one of those movies that we have to watch silently?” 

Seeing someone sit with him, Jacob smiled a bit before shaking his head. “You definitely don’t have to be silent during this movie. Usually it’s only the first time I see a movie I prefer silence, but yeah... I feel like most can relate to that.” He replied. “But what’s your favorite part of this movie?”

“Take me to the days when it seemed like Harry Potter was all 25 Days, just on repeat every day. Christmas movies aren’t my thing. They’re always kind of…cheesy. I also have never heard of that movie at all. What’s it about?”

“Those were always entertaining as well. Definitely nice to have them in the mix. But I don’t think they are all that cheesy. A lot of them are kind of fun.” He replied. “It’s about this dad who is trying to have the perfect family Christmas, but of course everything keeps going wrong throughout the movie.”
