I had someone ask me "where are the pokemon cards" and I tried to direct her to the kids section and she got really indignat and went "no. Pokemon cards. Theyre like, collectibles" and I had to go No I know what those are. Those are kids playing cards. Kids section

It's because stores have to sort things according to management. If management thinks something is a children's thing, then the employees have to sort it into the children's section, regardless of whether it is actually only sought after by children or not. And let's face it. The creator of MLP would not have to have made a public announcement years ago asking for everyone to please leave some of the releases to people under the age of 20, because they wanted everyone in their target audience to be able to enjoy it, not just the people who have agency over their own money.

In retail, I've personally been instructed to place extremely gory or quite sexual things in the children's section, because management probably took one look at the cover, decided 'yupp, that's clearly too colourful/creative looking to be for adults' and then placed it in the children's product category for shelving.

Also dolls/figurines are most commonly thought of as a children's collectable and yet there are companies like Mattel for example, which price their dolls between 80-300€. We all know full well that companies nowadays are aware of their over 20 year old audiences and that many creators and usual buyers would shriek and shrivel if they saw one of those dolls in the hands of someone who is between the age of 4 and 10.

Not that children should not be allowed to own oe engage with these products, people can do with their own money whatever they please, but it's good to remember that just because something is brightly designed, colourful or cartoony-looking, does not mean that children are the (intended/main/only) target audience.

I did in fact read the last part and didn't see how it applied to my main point (see above) and interpreted it as you stating that "kids CAN play with things that have value to adults BUT I Don't Like It And Think They Morally Shouldn't Be Doing So But I Won't Stop Them" and summarized that further into "kids shouldn't be playing with things that adults think have value". Even under the best faith interpretation (probably like "kids can do whatever I don't care, just Won't Someone Think Of The Adults") that still doesn't address op's point, as above, "people who treat children's toys as worth many times their weight in gold and cannot comprehend that they would be unimportant in the eyes of anyone else are mock-worthy" which you still entirely avoided in favor of answering a question that wasn't being asked
