WHAT BODY PART ARE YOU?
Lungs
Breathe in. The ability to breathe is almost completely reflexive, and like most things, it comes to you naturally, with little effort or meaning. Many of the diseases that affect the lungs are hereditary, is there some unknown family trauma there? Something someone wasn’t telling you? If we only inhale, we die. If we only exhale, we die. We need both. You have mastered that tactful dance, at least, until something unexpected comes knocking. Something that steals your breath away, that pries your oh so precious air from your lungs and leaves you cold, winded and alone. A collapsed lung cannot kill you, but it aches more than broken bone, it’s sticky and bloody and cloying. You can recover though. You always have. Breathe out.

she could resist the urge to laugh at the idea of theresia, not wanting to juggle many identities, but a grin still split her face in half. she did not remember everything as clearly as she would like, but she did remember that all her life, theresia had gone through masks and identities like the most … productive actors. sometimes, it had been difficult for her to handle, not knowing which version of her daughter would walk through the door the next time theresia would step into her dimly lit room, but — it had not mattered. she had loved every facet of her daughter, had loved her anger and her patience in equal amounts.
“ for now, she’s gone, ” she said quietly, calmly. she sounded more composed than she felt, but this was alright. although she had lived such a long life, there were sometimes things that caught her off-guard, that she had never prepared for. this was one of them. “ i don’t know where, but — from what i could tell, she built a life here. and she’s too stubborn to walk away from that. ”
had she been someone else, she might have been — offended that someone she loved would run from her, but this was a trait theresia had gotten from her: the need to distance herself from an overwhelming situation to avoid being crushed by it. and it was impossible for eleanor to fault theresia for something she might have ended up doing herself, had she not been trying on shoes when reality had been first shattered and then rearranged.
“ i’ll have to practice being patient with her. it’s been so long, i nearly forgot how it works. ” she halted and sighed, her smile near apologetic now. “ and i’m sorry, this has to sound very confusing to you. ”
“I’m just surprised. To you it sounds confusing because you are, in fact confused. Don’t worry.”
His thoughts drifted over all the locations in this city he’d been and all the strange people he’d met whenever he’d been out at night. In his own head the city seemed endlessly vast. Anyone could live here, apparently including Ella’s lost daughter. In reality the city was much less grand that in it’s mental image. Perhaps he could find her.
“Do you think I could have met without knowing?” He joked.

‘ ‘ and here i thought frédéric was kidding when he said that i’d run into familiar faces here, ’ ’ she said as she scrutinised the man who looked almost as startled as she felt. there were faces and names in history that she had come to associate with specific years and places — and his was one of them. checking her watch to see how much time she had, a grin carved her face in two. ‘ ‘ so … new haven … port of your call or are you just passing through? ’ ’ she asked with a wink, arms somewhat raised; whether he would go in for a hug or merely a handshake, she was prepared for it.

Perhaps he should be less surprised every time he met a friend from the old days, considering how this city attracted immortals like a supernatural magnet. If they hadn’t had such fun times in Paris, he might have pretended to not know her and proceeded to ignore the woman. He was busy right now. As it was, he did know her and still remembered Paris fondly, even though Ella wouldn’t look too kindly on it.
“ Brigid, hello. “ Seth extended his hand to her anyway.
“ Who is this Frederic? “
carnationhearted.
‘ ‘ i’m inclined to agree with you — on both accounts, ’ ’ eleanor sighed as she shifted in her seat, trying to ignore the way his fingers kept drumming against his leg. they said absence makes the heart grow fonder, and while she was not too certain about this, she had conveniently forgotten about this habit of seth’s. a mistake she did not intend to repeat, frankly. ‘ ‘ if his parents were feeling parental at all, they would be here already. not that anyone wants to deal with a couple rich ne’er-do-wells, right? ’ ’
she certainly could do without this, but there were cases that required her to set aside her prejudices against people who commonly thought that with money, they could buy themselves out of their problems. still, she did not have high hopes for their first destination.
running a hand through her hair, she sighed softly. ‘‘ i expect his office will yield the better result, but you know — we have to cover all bases. ’’ her voice almost turned into a groan, but she was more professional than that.
If the dead man’s parents were actually in attendance, he’d be even less enthusiastic about all this then he was right now. He had once found special pleasure in his work whenever it meant tearing down these perfect and magnanimous facades. Seth sighed as they pulled into the long, lavish driveway. Nothing said social-minded more than that. Well, maybe an office decked in mahogany or blackwood. If the place they were visiting didn’t have at least one piece of this he’d down the rest of his cheap Vodka in one go. The one that had such a delightfully nasty undertone of soap.
Seth bit back a comment on how he could frankly do without any of this and sighed instead. He did not have the heart to disappoint her. especially now that she thought she had achieved some form of victory over his gloomy state of mind.
“ Some things never change “
carnationhearted.
after seth had left the living room, eleanor had gone on to take a quick shower in the second bathroom before trading her rather casual garb for something cleaner, neater. the world they would step into was one neither of them had ever felt truly comfortable in, though eleanor thought that she had always minded the false gold and the silver spun lies less than her partner. perhaps it was because of how her parents, well-respected members of the circus of the wealthy, had never cared too much about their status either.
“ technically, it’s rosen’s case, but she gave me the go ahead to do some digging, ” eleanor shrugged as she pulled her beanie over her hair, pushing the door open before stepping out of the house and towards a cab that stopped when she waved. clutching her bag tightly as she pulled open the door, she briefly looked over her shoulder. “ i figured we should stop by at his office, first. getting a feeling for mr abrahams might help us later. ”
she would drag seth into caring about this case, no matter how much it would take to get to a point where his passion for their work would once more be alight. as much as she had always appreciated her job, their job, some of the appreciation had been connected to how they had worked together before she had moved to the west coast.
“ rosen is trying to convince the parents of the victim to come back to town early, she said something about her father having possibly enough influence for them to comply to her, uh, wishes, ” she added after giving their driver the address. she had talked with the blonde on the phone while she had waited for seth to resurface, and the first impression she had gotten was that freya rosen was — for perhaps the first time since eleanor had met her — shaken to the very core of her being. as soon as they met up with both the blonde and her partner, eleanor would have to ask about that.
Seth was sitting next to his former partner in silence, watching the city flash by outside.
‘I should not have left home’ he thought.
The idea of having to be in the presence of these people was stifling and made him feel ill at ease. Especially as he was right now. A shadow of who he used to be, there was no two ways about that. Seth grumbled and turned to the woman in the next seat.
“ there might be something useful in his office. A calendar, notebooks. Whatever he was doing before is untimely demise might help. “
That being said, Seth turned back to watch the increasingly posh facades fly past as they were nearing their destination. His fingers started drumming a rhythm on his thigh in an effort to distract himself.
“ Rosen is wasting her time “ he mumbled bitterly

“ i don’t expect you to change yourself for my sake, ” eleanor said quietly as she folded herself into seth’s embrace, her hands still clasping his. she had always liked others with and for their unique traits, had always found them to be more real than those who were far too similiar to a million others. seth was entirely different from everyone she had ever met, something that was a feat not many had accomplished.
but his question caught her a little off guard, though she should have expected it. for a moment, she sent herself on the journey down memory late, though she did not allow herself to get lost there. no matter how sad and painful the end had been, there had been happier days as well. those were the days her mind wanted to flee to, those were the days when theresia had been a girl of sixteen summers, with joy in nearly every step and a wide smile on her face. she had been made of sunlight, then. there were some people who were bright because of their personality — and theresia had put them all to shame. she had been a warm and helpful, always quick to make the effort on someone else’s behalf.
letting go of his hand, she sighed as she brushed hair out of her face. “ theresia was … special, ” she finally said. the words felt stale, but it was not easy to describe someone as complex as her daughter. she had been patient to a fault when she had sat with peter to help him with his letters, but injustice had always been guaranteed to anger her. at the end of the day, theresia had been her father’s daughter. “ she has never been an easy person to describe … and i’ve tried that a lot while i was looking for her, ” she added. “ i haven’t been looking for her in this city, yet, but … i do know that she still uses her last name, severin. this may count for something … i just dont know what. ”
What she’d aid about her daughter sounded positive. But then again, a mother was hardly objective about her child. Nobody was, weather they were conscious of it or not. Still, if the girl had a solid moral code she followed he could not see himself clashing too harshly with her at least where ethics were concerned. But he’d see about that sooner or later.
“ Could be because of some lingering attachment to the family you once had. Or for the convenience of not having too many different identities to manage like some of us others. “ he replied earnestly
he certainly hated this aspect of immortality and avoided it however he could. He could not quite remember the last time _he_ had changed his identification. Probably in part because faye managed his documents for him.
“ but refrain from hunting her down. I’m not the only one who doesn’t take kindly to such a thing. “
that last remark was only half serious. Ella was a sensible enough person that she did not have to be told an obvious thing. It was true nonetheless and it just wouldn’t do for their reconnecting to go awry. He’d mostly found family ties to be a finicky and overly complicated thing, but ella was vastly different in that aspect. He just wanted her to be safe and happy.

roseheired:
to the rightful marquess of agharta, lord hopkins,
i hope this letter finds you well despite the months that are behind us. ianthe has been in a state of disarray as of late, and i for one am glad to find it settling once more now that the royal throne is held by queen gabrielle, a woman who is greatly respected throughout this and other lands.
allow me to first offer you my most sincere and heartfelt well wishes regarding your upcoming marriage; i hope your union will be blessed with happiness and good fortune. it appears that the next year will leave few of our follow lords and ladies unwed; my father tells me that this was to be expected when so many of us travelled to the capital. my wife-to-be wishes for a summer wedding and who would i be to deny her such a wish? surely not the man my father raised me to be.
however, as you may already have guessed, i do not write this letter to merely send my best regards. as my younger brother would say: i am frank in the spirit of fairness. the situation we briefly discussed when you visited bellrose troubles me greatly. there is a chance that my siblings ( to name names, i suspect basil and freya to be the most likely culprits ) have sent you similar missives already. i would apologise, if i were not writing the self same letter today. should their letters offend you, i apologise — they have never been the sort to not do as they please and compared to my lord father, i unable to stop them without being a hypocrite.
the matter is of the sort that may cause unrest among our fellow lords and ladies, and if i may be this bold: neither of us is currently in a position where we can afford the sort of talk that follows when such a … scandalous situation is revealed. i think of my lord father and your lady mother when i write this: a solution is needed and it is needed quickly. onda is not a barony under my family’s banner, of course, and thus the decision is yours. with my father’s recent ascension to the queen’s advisor, the responsibility for this falls to me, and unlike some, i rather ask for permission than forgiveness. i would never presume to have the right to ask you to agree with the sentiments my siblings and i hold in this, though i do ask you to carefully consider our situation and our options as this affects you as well.
i shall leave you with this and my kindest regards,
yours truly,
lord asce rosen, duke of acantha
@jadedxsparks
to the new rightful duke of bellrose, Lord Rosen,
I thank you for your kind wishes and return with my own congratulations to your impending marriage. May you and your bride to be live a happy life together. Indeed these next few months will be marked by many journeys as both me and my fiancee have received various invitations already. It cannot be any different for you.
Your siblings have indeed contacted me over the matter we discussed but you needn’t worry. They have not offended me in any way. I have taken their arguments into consideration and find myself agreeing with them for the most part. However, i would not go into more detail with them as this is a matter that needs to be resolved between the respective heads of our houses. It seems this task now falls on us. And perhaps it is for the best that it is us that have to confer on this. As it was my father that got us here with his careless political actions.
I thank you for your tactful concern and I assure you that this situation does not sit well with me in the slightest. I knew the Hollands personally so i have a personal interest in righting this situation in the most discreet manner. I also worry for my mother who has been under much stress these past months. The reputation of my house has taken a blow in recent years and after my father’s death the various misgivings against him have fallen in part on her, as undeserved as it it.
After your siblings have suggested rather permanent solutions, i am interested in your ideas on this situation.
Yours truly,
Lord Seth Hopkins, Marquess of Agharta

———ELEANOR WOULD NOT go as far as claiming that she had taste in dark wizards; instead, she would state that she had taste in interesting people. and whether he liked it or not, seth was among the most interesting people she had ever encountered. of course, that was a terrible justification for all of this. she should be SHUTTING this conversation down, direct it towards a more professional level, but a part of her was wondering how far this could go before either of them would get cold feet. call it twisted, she preferred the term curious.
OF COURSE, CURIOSITY was one of the many things that had landed them in this current situation, in the mess she had trouble defining properly, but that did not really matter right now. right now, she did not want to be noble. right now, she was not sure what she wanted, but she was all too interested in finding it out.
❛ that’s possibly a first, seth, isn’t it? ❜ she mused aloud, angling her head as she regarded him. usually, he found cause to complain about nearly everything she ever did. for him to not complain was — new. and she guessed that she liked it, somewhat. ❛ and surely, that’s one way to interpret it. perhaps not the interpretation i’d have chosen but — still valid. ❜
It was the interpretation that suited this line of conversation most. A line he could still sever when he could. He should excuse himself and leave her be, or come back to their initial conversation about the proof he claimed he had. But when had he ever stopped and done what he should have? Not if the end result was potentially interesting. This was a thrilling experiment of another kind. A social one if you would. He knew that she could be as curious as he was and they had already gone too far to stop now, anyway. Maybe they had passed that point long before now.
He was not willing to retreat now, he decided. Just as she was probably less than interested in him backing down. Not judging by the way she was looking at him now. And who was he to disappoint her now.
“ Valid indeed. “ Seth paused shortly to choose his words for Eleanor the woman, not the Auror he was used to. It was a difference for sure. But an interesting one he intended to explore for today. And by merlin, if this somehow also helped in the America undertaking, this was all the better.
tap tap tap tap
That was the sound of shoes on the stone floor of the corridor and the echoes were getting louder. Someone was coming. Possibly to this office. This suspicion was confirmed when the door opened and the head of the Auror office stepped inside and raised an eyebrow at him. If there was ever the prudent time to excuse himself, now was that moment.
“ That would be all then, hailwood. Sir. “
Seth nodded in Eleanors direction and promptly left the office avoiding Eleanor’s boss.
In that moment he was actually gad he had not finished what he had wanted to say. Because there would have been trouble if this man heard any of that. Mostly for Eleanor, which would have made it impossible for her to come and collect her evidence. Had he really just tried to pick up an auror?
carnationhearted.
❛ it won’t be just my choice, this makes it … difficult for me to predict how this will be, in the end, ❜ eleanor said slowly, wondering if this part was what was bothering her most. that it was beyond her control to shape this future, that she was doomed to wait for a verdict she would have to accept. because there was no way she could force her way into the life of someone who did not want her there.
( and this fear was probably what kept her on edge right now. )
leaning back a little to get a proper look at seth, she sighed as she ran her fingers along his wrist. ❛ in the past, she was always someone i could talk to, someone who let me talk, but … that was centuries ago. still, i hope that she continues to let others explain themselves, ❜ she said, wondering if this would ever lose its sense of strangeness — talking about theresia as someone who was alive, who was very much a real aspect of her current life rather than someone she had lost, someone who was nothing but a deep scar on her heart. and theresia did not deserve to be the source of grief when in her youth, she had been nothing but gentle and kind.
❛ i think you’d like her. ❜
“ of course I’ll try. But i cannot promise you that it will work. Please understand. “ He murmured quietly and twirled a strand of hair around his ring finger.
There was a good deal of uncertainty involved in this situation, and that was probably what made Eleanor so impatient. While it was moderately certain that her daughter would come back to talk to Ellie at some point, it was unclear yet how this conversation would unfold. That largely depended on the girls personality and state of mind. And there was no way for them to gauge that at present. That was not a conversation Ellie had any hope of controlling or to prepare for. Also Ellie was not the one of two in this equation. She had him, and her ‘brothers’ who were as close as actual family. Seth hoped that the girl would want to take her place in Ellie’s family again and not reject her mother. But who could say what would happen after all this time. If her daughter wanted it though, he knew it would cause Ellie great distress if there were any frictions between any of her family members. And while he could not speak for the other two, he’d make an effort to get along with Ellie’s daughter. But by god, he also hoped she was not unlikable or too hard to get along with for him. Because he knew himself, and knew how he would react if he saw himself forced to interact with such a person.
“ I suppose i’ll meet her one day, then. What do you remember of her?”
carnationhearted.
it was not just that after so many years eleanor wanted to reunite with her child. the emotions she felt had many different angles and one of them was slight guilt. it was a feeling she had wanted to suppress, that she had wanted to reject from the very beginning because it would lead her nowhere. she had done all she could and to blame herself for what she had not known would only make life unnecessarily difficult for her.
after the long years of her life, eleanor was hardly a stranger to guilt, both justified and pointless. it was something she could never truly help, it just tended to eat her alive when she did not stop the dangerous thoughts as soon as they started to sneak up on her. and — she was trying. she did not want to fall back into ways of the past, did not want to repeat mistakes she should have learned from many years ago.
❛ you know how impatient i can get, ❜ eleanor said as she closed her eyes, her hand still holding seth’s. impatience was no flaw commonly associated with her, but — she wanted to see the conclusion of this messy situation sooner rather than later, even though she knew that it was nothing she could rush, nothing she should hurry towards. ❛ i want to be calm, but … that’s easier said than done. i — i don’t think i wanted to run into her … or anyone like this. ❜
“ of course not. “ He murmured quietly and twirled a strand of hair around his ring finger.

Your Animal Familiar
Black Leopard
Also known as the Panther, this animal familiar is very stealthy and silent, seemingly the essence of the night and shadows. However, they are far from having an evil or dark reputation. Black Leopards represent seeing the beauty in all things, and finding good in even the darkest of circumstances. People with this familiar are usually good at expressing themselves, either artistically or through their talents and passions.
A Black Leopard familiar helps their master feel safe and secure, inspires them, and can act as a mentor or teacher to them.
This familiar represents:
-Expressing yourself
-Seeing the beauty in anything
-Facing fears
-Intelligence

❥❱❱ THE RAVEN ❛ SETH
To Seth, the tension in he group was palpable and it made him antsy. If his father lost his composure this would surely end up on the front pages of the prophet under big catchy headlines. William Hopkins had been in a bad mood for days now and Seth knew this was because two of the people he detested the most would be in attendance. He just hoped his own reputation was still important enough to keep himself in check despite how much the old man was itching for a confrontation inside.
Hailwood’s movement caught his eye then. Seth watched as a vaguely familiar looking guy made his way to the buffet and his eyes followed him the entire time until the man stopped to talk to Freya Rosen. Seth wanted to distract himself from his thoughts and tried to place him. It irked him that a name did not come to him because he felt like he should know who he was.
“ I’d very much prefer that. The last few days have been stressful enough with my old man being so grumpy because of Rosen. “ He replied distractedly to the former Captain’s remark. And now it hit him. He’d seen the guy on the pitch, as a gryffindor beater!
“ What is Astor Greene doing here? Don’t tell me he is from one of these families? “
It would be a pity if he were just another of these purebloods as Seth had always had the impression that he was at least a fair sportsman and had had some respect for him because of it.
❛ poor jean luc … i don’t think he wants a nemesis as dedicated as your father, ❜ eleanor said with a dramatic sigh before following the beater’s gaze, a warm smile blossoming on her face as she recognised her friend. ❛ the greenes have stakes in this game as they are supporting a research facility that will be looking into treatment for long-term damage done by curses and hexes. ❜
it was an honourable quest as far as eleanor was concerned. and it was probably far more necessary than this gathering that was little more than an excuse for politicians to show off their pretty festive clothes. two wizarding wars had left too many scars on wizards and witches who had been reaching for the stars, once, and even if the damage could never be undone completely, there had to be ways to ease their suffering.
suffice to say — eleanor supported this facility as well. and maybe, if she had not wanted to become an auror and if she had not passed the first entrance exam with flying colours, she would have donated more than just money to this.
briefly waving at astor, she looked at seth once more. ❛ they mostly try to get names of healers who might come to work at the facility once it’s — realised. they aren’t interested in chess games, ❜ she added before she reached for a small plate of appetisers that was drifting around the room in midair. ❛ i’m pretty hungry, ❜ she shrugged as she selected one of the small snacks, ❛ spent most of the day running around london to look for an apartment. ❜
Curse damage research was an important topic and it was really unbelievable that this field was as underdeveloped as it was right now when so many people had already suffered from it. Aurors risked curse damage constantly, had fought in two wars against darkest magic. But they wren’t the only ones. Curse breakers researched and removed largely unknown ancient protective spells on tombs and ruins, most of them nasty pieces of work. He had heard that not everyone got through their training in one piece. And while that did not dissuade him from wanting to become a curse breaker himself, he could get behind the idea of a curse research institute. This was actually something worthwhile to do with time and money, as the wizarding community would benefit from it a good deal in his opinion.
His father had strongly opposed his wish of entering this field of work and even the N.E.W.T.S courses he had decided to take. They still fought about it actually, and would likely continue to do so until he moved to England permanently after graduation. He could barely wait. The old man never learned that his tirades had no influence on him other than make him even more determined to do the exact opposite of what William wanted from him. His father was incredibly blind to other’s needs and would likely think a research facility a waste of resources as well. Probably arguing that the hospitals already had departments to handle this just fine on their own. And that money should be put into the trading contracts for some nonsense he loved so much to make rich wizards richer, and curse victims be damned.
Frustrated once more, he grabbed one of these little pretentious snacks off a plate like Eleanor had done just now and stuffed it into his mouth gracelessly. He did not even taste its flavor as he barely chewed and swallowed it quickly.
“ That facility sounds like something we actually need. That’s what people should be spending on, not these silly parties or designer robes! I hope the Greens leave my father be with this idea. He’d not invest a single knut in it and rant about it on our way home. I wish them the best of luck with the other guests though. How’s the apartment situation in London? I’m considering moving there too, next year. “
