Oh sorry, I didn’t know anyone was out here. Peter’s eyes widened ever so slightly at the sight of Jade next to Lua’s car. They hadn’t really said a single word to each other since they’d embarked on this trip, so he couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit awkward by suddenly being in her presence. He didn’t really know what to say to her. Hi, remember me, Peter? The quiet kid who sometimes came over to hang out with your sister? Yeah, you look just like her! Too bad she’s dead now, huh? He shook his head. That certainly wasn’t it.
“Yeah, go ahead.” Peter said quietly, gesturing to the spot next to him. Anxiety began to build in his gut as he struggled to find something to say to her. The thought of just sitting next to each other in silence seemed very threatening. He quickly reached towards his pockets, feeling for the pack of Camel Turkish Royals that he knew to be inside. He found them quickly, along with his green 7/11 lighter and pulled them out. “Would you like a cigarette?” He asked politely, pulling out one for himself. He held the box out towards her questioningly, hoping she’d say yes.
Jade looked down at the offer and smiled, “Sure, why not?” She said talking one and placing it her mouth, leaning forward for Peter to light it for her. It’d had been a while since she smoked a cigarette, she and her friends had tried to quit while they were in New York but they all knew that the rest was sneaking one in on the roof and Jade was no exception. That’s while she was in school, it had been a while since then or since she had spoken to any of them. It was really hard to hang out with people who didn’t have any idea what you were going through. Fuck, it was hard to hang out with people who knew exactly what you were going through.
She looked up at the fairly empty parking lot, inhaling the tobacco she could sense the other feeling slightly uncomfortable with the silence so she exhaled a puff of smoke, “This is really fucking weird, right?” she said still staring off, “Not just the weird road trip stops or that we have a dog tagging along but all of us together.” She sighed, not really sure why she was venting. Maybe it was because Peter left a lot of space for talking but it felt always like a huge weight lifted off her shoulders to just have one person she didn’t have negative feelings towards to talk to. “Do you think she would have changed her mind on this whole roadtrip idea if she knew how things went down? With her, I mean.” she said talking about more so the Wilco situation than anything else. God, she really did hate him and the idea of spending the next few weeks in a car with that asshole made her blood boil. “Shit, I’m sorry. I’m just ranting.” she added shaking her head then taking another drag.
