“ My only salvation is Vee -” Shay admits, looking at the pearl face of her watch as she stifles a yawn. “She’s the youngest and the only one of us who’s even got close to getting married, guess it only proves my point that she’s given up her work for the guy too.”

“At least you have your sisters.” Shrugging her shoulders, Jade flashed a smile. “Wait what? Why did she do that for the guy? That doesn’t make any sense.” Jade was kind of horrified by the idea of giving up on her career for a guy, so she wanted to know why the other woman did that.

---Chester:

Chester fiddled with his camera as people pushed passed him on the busy intersection. It was the closest thing he had to inspiring some sort of creative epiphany for his next new film. Rather than stopping the random passerby who slipped by him, he pointed his lens towards the other person as he walked alongside.

“So, aliens have finally made contact and they are pissed,” Chester blurted out as he could barely keep the camera steady with his hands exaggerating his words. “You have been chosen to prove why humanity should not be obliterated by our extraterrestrial friends. Pick a movie, a television show, and a song to show why humankind should be spared.”

“Alright, Coppola.” Jade sighed, letting out a silent chuckle. “The Godfather is the movie obviously because it’s the shit. I am gonna go with The X-Files for the show and the song would be Ain't No Mountain High. They are pretty much masterpieces.”

“No memory whatsoever? Man. I thought some of the lines were damn near unforgettable. I dunno if I could pull them off as well as he did. She always did love a good squeeze? I’m just up here at Oxford brushing up on a little Danish? They were so terrible.”

“Not at all. It was ages ago, come on.. You can’t expect me to remember it.” Jade shook her head in disbelief once he started saying the lines. “Oh my God, that’s a total cringe. How did even they write that?”

“You got me scared for a second. Actually I do need, you know, some coke for this weekend. My friend is visiting and we decided to have some fun together.”

amber’s eyes were on the other’s computer, she glared at the screen for a while before starting to talk. “are you using windows or linux?”

“I am using Mac. It’s practical and fast.” Jade shrugged. “Why did you ask?”

“My maa’s still expecting me to pop of 2.5 kids before I hit 35,” she laughs, the sound laced with bitterness. “Considering I’m still not married, or even close to it, and I won’t want to have kids before marriage - it seems like a slim chance It’ll happen. Good thing too, since I have the maternal instincts of a teaspoon.”

“Oh my God..” Jade shook her head in disbelief. “Honestly I don’t wanna have kids, ever. I can’t be a mom, it’s too much work for me. I’d rather focus on my career. You too? That makes two of us.”

Jacob gave a helpless shrug, as if he couldn’t explain the phenomenon of chatty strangers, either. “I understand trying to strike up on a conversation, but when the other person isn’t picking up your signals, you’d think that’d be when they’d drop it.” He paused to sigh. “But unfortunately, it’s usually not.”

“Ugh I know. That’s when I get rude and tell them to shut up to be honest.” Jade smirked as shrugging her shoulders. “Some people deserve to be treated badly.”
