“Last I heard, Michi went home to his grandparents’ place in Yonezawa,” she said softly. “I wonder if he’s okay…” Shaking her head to dismiss the memories, she continued, “But my brother might be coming here so we can talk it out, we really need to do that so…”
“Oh.” Jae frowned. “So you can’t get into contact with this Michi at all?” Jae questioned.

With nod of his head Taemin agreed. “Yeah, sure. Coffee sounds great.” He pulled his hands from his pockets and gestured his hands in the direction they were to go. It was a quick and mostly quiet walk to the lounge, but once there he ordered and looked over to his brother. “Well, um, what have you been up to for the last year. I know we’ve briefly talked, but nothing concrete.”
Jae ordered his warm cup of chai tea after his brother ordered his coffee. He let out a breath hating the feeling of awkwardness shared between them. “Not much.” He sighed. “Just still trying to get by since...” He paused. “with what happened to dad. How are you still holding up?”

Sof nodded her head as he explained how their childhood wasn’t exactly the greatest. She knew that they didn’t because of their father. “I know… but that doesn’t mean that he absolutely hates you.” She tried to reason. “Awh, babes, don’t stress. I really feel like things will work themselves out. I don’t think Taemin would let this happen, but if he does, you have my unending support. You’ll never have to worry about anything. Because that’s how it should be anyways.”
“Maybe. I dunno.” Jae shrugged then smiled when his best friend reassured him over the mess that was his life at the moment. “Thanks Sof, but really I don’t want you taking care of me. I can figure something out if things go to shit.” He reassured her with a smile. “Hey why don’t we head back to my dorm and catch up? I have some of your favorite Korean candy left in my travel bag.”

Akiko was quiet for a moment. She hadn’t really wanted to explain, but now that he’d asked, she couldn’t very well blow it off. “Found out I had a…thing…going with my bodyguard and told our parents.”
“He did.. you.. did.. what?” Jaejin blinked in surprise. The news surely was something he wasn’t expecting. “Well I can see why your pissed now..” He paused. “Um what happened to the bodyguard?”

“falling for me already, eh?” soren sat up more, rubbing his hands over his eyes in an attempt to blink them more to appear slightly awake and alert. this wasn’t too bad though, he’s found himself in worse situations when he woke up in all honesty. he shrugged ever so slightly as he pushed himself off the ground and too his feet. “what, you offering me one?” he joked, smoothing his shirt and fixing the occasional button. “but i’m great. never better,” and added an easy smile for good measure.
Jae blinked at the words falling from the man’s mouth almost as if he didn’t quite hear him right. A sudden light shade of pink flourished over his cheeks all while heart felt as though it skipped a beat. Looking at the boy Jaejin felt confused as to why with what he said along with the way his eyes glanced over him effected him in such a fashion. “Uh.” He stammered out with a shake to his head. “I mean yeah if you need one, which ya kinda look like you need one, so you can use mine.” He extended his hand to help the boy up. “Yeah I’m sure you are but why don’t you come back to my dorm and freshen up a little? It’s just down the hall.”

“well, i did say it was thai beer, didn’t i?” she challenged as she took relaxed sips from the bottle. “but yeah, that’s good.” she couldn’t help but laugh when he criticized the beer. “yeah, it’s pretty awful, but that’s not the point,” max drawled on, eyes staring up at the ceiling. “the whole point is the experience, and if i’m around, i think you’d like it pretty damn well.”
“Oh.” Jae rose his brow finding her statement pretty amusing. “Is that so?” He chuckled taking another sip of his beer. “Alright Miss high and mighty on herself, what makes you think I’d like it pretty damn well if you are around?”

Sofia nodded her head and listened as he explained how he had been coping with losing his father. She simply couldn’t imagine what that would be like. The princess gave him a sympathetic pout and nodded her head as he continued. Once he started to explain the situation about the reagent kicking him out she rose her brows and felt a bit of frustration for him. “Um?” She looked to him incredulously. “Why wouldn’t you tell him, or let him find out? I mean it was in your dad’s will for you two to be taken care of; permanently” She found it ridiculous that he actually considered this a threat. “Even if worse comes to worst, you won’t have to worry, okay? I’ll take care of the two of you. I don’t see why you don’t get your brother involved in it all. I’m sure he’d take your side.”
“I dunno about that.” Jaejin quickly hesitated with a breath. “Growing up with Taemin wasn’t exactly all rainbows and sunshine all the time.” Since their father cruelly played favoritism among his children and Jae happened to be above his siblings in his father’s eyes, Tae eventually grew some resentment over the years. “I’m worried she might find a away around what my father wanted and how do I know that Taemin isn’t behind this either? I mean I can’t blame him for not being my biggest fan you know?”

Looking up,Akiko blinked. “Oh yeah, it’s just my idiot brother trying to get me to talk to him. I haven’t talked to him in six months and I’m perfectly okay with that.”
“Oh..” Jae blinked now even more confused. “Jeez what did your brother do to piss you off that badly to not want to talk to him in six months?”

Sofie jumped up and squeezed his thin body in for a warm hug. “God, I’ve missed you, drăguță.” She pulled back and cupped his cheeks into her hands, squishing his features for a moment. Jaejin was probably one of the closest friends she had made when they were little. She remembered running through the corridors of her castle with him at her six. They couldn’t have been older than six or seven. She also remembered the couple of times in their more adult lives where they had woken up naked in bed together. Strangely, that never changed anything. “I’ve been marvelous, as always.” She beemed with an ever so pleasant smile. “How about you? I didn’t expect you to end up here. I’m so sorry about your dad. He was always really nice to me. How’re you and the fam holding up?”
Jae couldn’t help but giggle childishly as the girl cupped his cheeks like an adorable puppy she just found at the pet store. “Of course you have. Since when has anything gone horrible for you?” He pulled his face from her hands looking from his dear friend to the ground. Being his childhood friend she knew how close Jae was to his father. “Uh well you know I’m getting by I guess. I just try not to think about it. School is a great distraction, but um the fam is.. okay I guess.” He sighed brushing his fingers through his hair. “My Mom is heartbroken and her highness and Tae seem a little indifferent. Also please don’t repeat this because I’d hate this getting back to Tae, but the Queen is trying to get rid of me and my Mom. She kicked me out so I came here. I’m worried she might cut my Mother off or try and ruin her life while I’m gone.” He sighed feeling a little better it was off his chest. “I don’t know what to do Soph.”

Akiko glared at the latest text she had received and promptly deleted it, like she’d done the last six months.
She absolutely despised her brother right now.
And if you asked her, she had a very good reason.
“You okay? You look a little um peeved at your phone.”

as he drifted awake soren curled in on himself and pressed his face down into… a surface that was definitely not his bed. he blinked himself awake in confusion, shielding his eyes with his hand as he looked up and freezing because yeah, this definitely wasn’t his dorm. “i… one second,” he mumbled, dragging his hand through his hair as he slowly sat up, racking his hands over his face a few times before he looked back up, eyes clearly bleary. “i’m sorry,” he said, his voice obviously worse for wear. “this is… bad,” and he winced at how bad that sounded because yeah, he really could sleep another few hours before he tried fixing this situation.
Jae was engrossed with catching this damn evee on his pokemon go app ass he was headed out of his dorm for the night to go meet up with Max to study. He nearly tripped over a unexpected lump in the hallway that almost caused the poor boy to have a heart-attack. Jaejin’s eyes quickly averted towards the figure on the ground and was left baffled. “No shit this is bad. You nearly broke my neck.” Jae huffed. “Are you okay though? You look like you could use a bed rather than a floor to lie down on.”

Sofie walked down the hall, feeling a bit bored. It had been a weird and long day for her and she was too excited to get back to her dorm. She looked up and looked through the glass that showed into a classroom and saw a very familiar face exiting. Excitedly she ran forward to surprise him.. just to have those plans changed to getting hit with the door he was opening. The princess gasped as she rubbed her back. “Jesus Jae, you make it hard to be excited to see you when knock me on my ass before I can even say hi.” She grinned before reaching up for him to help her. “But hi.”
“Sofie?” Jaejin gasped cupping a hand over his mouth before initially reaching out of help her back to her feet. “I’m so sorry!” He reeled her in for a hug. She defiantly was a sight for sore eyes since he hadn’t been among old friends in a while. “Please keep a little bit excitement for me?” He giggled pulling back to look her over. She was just as beautiful the last he had seen her. “Hi, how have you been!? I didn’t even’t know you went here.”

Making a name for himself. That was a very unknown concept to Taemin. He knew that Jaejin could if he wanted, but why would he when things were already laid out for him? “Okay then. I’ll respect that.” Taemin looked downward and thought for a moment. He was debating whether it would be weird to jump on hanging out now. He could recall times that they would spend all day in his room when they were much younger. It was kind of sad to think about how they grew apart. He knew that he was quite a bit to blame, pushing him away became a comforting habit. Only because of the special treatment Jaejin had received from their father. “Yeah, um we could actually do something now… if you’d like, of course.” Taemin felt a bit awkward as far as making plans went, but maybe it was a good step?
“Uh....” Jaejin momentarily paused not thinking his brother would agree so quickly to his suggestion. Shit. What were they suppose to do? He hadn’t been close to his brother in years to know what he was into nowadays. He seriously doubted he was still into power rangers or something else they liked in their youth. “Well.” He rubbed the back of his neck a he continued to think. “Do you want to head to the lounge and get some coffee and catch up?” It was something and he hoped it was enough to get him to stay.

“oh, i definitely could. i just don’t want to,” she teased, propping her head up with her arm as she watched him get up. she shook her head though, reaching out for the bottle. “i don’t think so? i’ve had thai beer, the one made from rice with the elephant on it… chang? yeah, chang.” she took a sip and raised an eyebrow at him. “you’ve never had american beer before?” she echoed, disbelieving. “i mean, it’s not all that great, but it’s definitely an experience you need in your life.”
“Chang?” He echoed with a chuckle. “That’s from Thailand right? I think I’ve had that before.” A smirked curled his lips as he took a quick sip letting the poison pour down his throat. “Naw. I’ve heard from some that American beer tastes like piss or something. Not sure if it’s an experience I need.” He laughed as he teased her. “But I’m sure it would be an experience drinking it with you. The real questions is would I enjoy it or not?”

The king’s brows furrowed when he mentioned making a career of business. “You were son of a king… You don’t have to worry about having a career. You and your mom will always be taken care of.” That was something that had completely blown his mind. Why would he be thinking about a career when working wasn’t necessary. Taemin let out a quiet scoff and a small smile. He didn’t find the situation too terribly funny. In fact he was still a bit peeved about his fall to the ground, but he ignored it for now, letting an amused face shine through. It had been nearly a year since they had seen each other. Tae could think back to seeing his brother at their father’s funeral. He could recall that Jaejin was entirely more upset than he was. Which made sense to him when the late king’s treatment between them was much different. “No, I actually just left a class. I’m actually done for the day as far as classes go. What about you?”
Jae quietly braced his smile as his brother reminded him of his decent, thinking how flattering of an idea it would be to not have to worry. He was the illegitimate son of the previous king which was a title that barely had a hold to the world they grew up in. “I know.” He spoke shyly before regaining his posture upright. “I figure to somehow make a name for myself than just to continue wearing out the ole ‘I’m the son of the King card’.” He looked over his brother conveying his seriousness. “Uh that was my only class for the day so I free to do whatever.” He shrugged. “I’m guessing you are probably busy with homework and what not huh?” Jaejin figured having the title of a king would make him busy now, but he secretly did want to catch up with his brother. “Maybe if you are not too busy we can hang out sometime?”

Lane thought that having a quiet moment to himself in the lounge would clear his head of all the past memories swirling around it. He found himself baking quietly. It was an activity he never liked doing but the smell of something freshly baked was always a comfort. It reminded him of home, when things were normal, and he was happy. Those times were few and far between so Lane cherished those memories more than the rest. He decided to attempt a crumb cake, but it was really more of a half risen disaster. Still, he found solace in the simple motions. He sifted the flour slowly, he whipped the eggs with utmost concentration, he cut the nuts with a precision he only saved for sewing. It was through his movements he found quiet. When started the lounge was empty. Most royals had private kitchens in their dorms or on staff chefs that could whip them up anything they wanted, however, Lane did not have that privilege. He hadn’t noticed anyone come in.
Jaejin entered the doors in a quite manor in hopes that he wouldn’t gain a single eye of attention of anyone in the room. Thankfully there happened to be only one person and he seemed to be content with his baking making it easier for him to slip into the back without getting noticed. He pulled the ingredients out of his bag ready to get started on the mug cake he had planned to prepare. With everything going on back at home and him trying to figure out what to next. Sinking his sorrows in chocolate seemed to be the best plan for now. Once getting started Jae knew he wasn’t the most graceful at the art of cooking, but part of him loved getting messy. Being somewhat apart of royalty you never got to explore the opposing side of nice and neat. “Oh crap.” He looked down suddenly realizing the destruction he created. “When did the tornado touchdown trough here?” He looked to the other with a mused laugh noting his area was precise and neat. “I guess you can tell I’ve never really done this kinda thing before huh?”

if max was anything, she was a creature of focus. her mind was definitely a one track mind and as she sat there cross legged on jae’s bed reading over the paper for what had to be the thousandth time. she let out a hum at his nudge, pushing her cropped hair out of her eyes as she shrugged. “i think it’s almost there,” she allowed before smiling ever so slightly. “i could do a break though, can’t have you going blind on me. i don’t want all this work for myself.” she dropped the paper onto the bed and… then dropped herself onto the bed, really. just sprawled out and staring up towards the ceiling before letting out a careful sigh.
Jae overlooked the girl with a mused smile grateful she even agreed to get out of this hellish torture known as studying. “Pssh. I sure you could get an A for the both of us easily, me blind or not.” He allowed a small giggle to move from him while rising up from his chair to walk out of the room to head over into the kitchen to grab some refreshments. “Hey have you ever tried Gangseo? It’s basically Korean beer.” He plopped on the bed along side her twisting off the cap as he handed it to her. “Here. It’s pretty good. Might taste a little different than your American stuff but I think it’s good. Considering I haven’t had American beer before.”
