TOMAAS

Toomaas’ work really stood out to me with the concept behind his images. He takes everyday disposable objects and turns them into fashionable items. It is almost how we have become apart of a throw-away society in a sense. I love the intensity of the lighting and the shapes that the plastic objects create.

Sito Alvina

I really admire the concepts that Sito comes up with and how he ends up creating them. My favourite from his work is the one of the woman with the target and knives being thrown. Sito’s work is unique and orignal--it stands out.

Week 12-Response to Lecture

Sarah Palmer & Contect & Social Responsibility

Mentioned in week twelves lecture was the idea of what photojournalism is and what it is trying to portray. We got different viewpoints from the readings. Berger claims that photographs are used as a “weapon”, which I agree with--they can be to an extent. However, today we see everything and not many things are censored--therefore the effect is not as as strong. The work I found interesting from this reading where Lana Slezic’s work, and Sarah Palmer. I really enjoy how Sarah portrayed what the Trump rallies where like. She does this by merging images into one another and I find it works effectively. Viewers get to see the business and almost “hear” how loud it is. She makes the images even more hectic by using the merging as a tool as if we were there just looking around. Photojournalism expresses the events that are going on at a particular time, and are a way of keeping record of certain events.

Simona Smrckova

The lighting is amazing in these images and really makes them come to life. I also love the use of colours and how much they pop out. My favourite images from this set would be the second one. Its composition, the models expression, colour, and lighting all works perfectly together.

I really enjoy the surrealism and creativity behind each of these images. They are fun to look at and the bright colours really make them appealing! I really enjoy the meaning behind some of the images and the humour.

I particularly enjoy this photographers work because it reminds me of Tim Walker’s work--whom is another photographer I adore. I really enjoy how busy each image is, and the amount of thought and styling that had to go into each image for them to be as beautiful as they are.

Marta Bevaqua

I love the connection you can feel from the subject that this photographer has photographed. The images are beautiful, but almost feel personal in a sense. I love the matte finish to the images and the de-saturated feel.

Week 10-Response to Lecture

Adam Magyar & Time

During week tens lecture, we learned that time can be used either conceptually, or as a tool. When it comes to taking a photograph--we are capable of manipulating time, whether it be through taking a long exposure, images over time, or even a panorama. Adam Magyar has an interesting way of expressing how time can be used to create such unique images. He uses a very fast camera, that is actually a scanner and creates these stunning images by doing so. Another interesting point that came up during the lecture is how sometimes images are caught in a certain moments but do not always portray what is actually happening. Sometimes photographs can cause people to perceive a moment differently compared to people who were there in the moment. The best example being Obama checking out a woman's behind. The photograph is humorous and can be seen in that way--but when in motion there is the possibility he was not even checking her out in the first place. Time is defiantly a complex thing that can lead to many aspects.

Margarita Kareva

I really enjoy how colourful Margarita Kareva’s images are. Each image tells a story and every photograph that she creates is stunning to look at. I admire the fact that she includes animals in her image or some sort of natural element.

Lindsay Adler

Lindsay Adler is a fashion photographer who creates visually stunning images. I love how graphic the first image is, and it is not like something I have seen before. I also particularly love the image with all the red. I love how much red is used, but she was able to make the model stand out from the background.

Laura Sheridan

I discovered Laura Sheridan’s work months ago on Instagram, and I absolutely adore what she creates. She collaborates with Hysteria Machine whom creates stunning headpieces and other parts of the wardrobe. I am a fan of both of their work, so with them combined just makes everything that much better! Laura’s work is dark and often eerie--but the images are beautiful never less.

Lana Sleznic

A documentary and film maker that photographs various subjects. My favourite series is her “forsaken” series, which shows the life of women in Afghanistan. Some of the images are alarming, where as some are more focused on the better side of things. This photographer said that her cab driver said that, “to beat a woman, is to love a woman” and she portrays this in the negative images that can be found in this series. It is unfortunate that we live in a world with people who have such terrible mindsets.

Grace Almera

I really enjoy the warm mood that these images portray. Grace Almera is known as being another fantasy related photographer hence why I am drawn to her work. The wardrobe used in the images are stunning, the lighting is beautiful. Grace really brings out the beauty in her images, as well as the character that each model is portraying in each photograph.

Shuan Kardinal & Art in the age of mechanical reproduction

Reproduction of images and concepts can make an images “aura” start to dwindle and become boring. Due to living in a technological time period where everyone has access to phone cameras; everyone is consistently taking photos of the same thing. However, as photographers we come up with ways to re-create images and give them new meaning. I really enjoy how Shuan Kardinal took average pictures of a bird, and landscapes but made them into something more. He manipulated the birds into appealing shapes and patterns--thus taking a simple subject and making it much more. As for his landscapes--he ads string in various shapes and appealing patterns which is a whole new take on photography. What stands out about his work is that they feel low-quality as if an average person shot it--but takes a twist to it and turns it into a unique image. Shuan is taking over done images, but giving them a different meaning and his own brand to it.

Erik Johansson

I would argue that Erik Johansson is the best photoshop artist/photographer I have ever seen the work of. He is my greatest inspiration for photo-manipulations and I one day hope to have the amount of skills and talent he has. He takes photographs and brings them to the next level. All of his work is stunning and flawless.

Elizaveta Porodina

I love how much these photographs stand out. The use of colours is absolutely stunning and visually appealing. I only discovered Elizaveta’s work recently and I am quite amazed by her work!

Ekaterina Belinskaya

Another one of my favourite fashion photographers; Ekaterina has an eye for taking things to the next level. Her photographs are simply just beautiful--and the styling and wardrobe is always effective and brings the images to life. She creates a lot of obscure images that are original and different from your average fashion photographer.
