Work in Progress Wednesday Thursday
I don't remember the last time I was quite this excited about a skin that I'm making. I have no idea if all of this will end up in the final version, but I'm just having so much fun with seeing what I can actually do that I wanted to share some work in progress shots.
(honestly? the hardest part has been finding the images. any tips on where to get medieval illuminated artwork would be much appreciated!)
In the first image, the AO3 title and the lady/dragon are separate images so on a desktop monitor the AO3 part is on the left and the dragon piece is on the right.

Been using this skin for a while and it's lovely! But lately there seems to be a problem with an element on the work page. There's the picture of the scribe in the stats/tag box that gets repeated below in the work text, and I can't figure out how to remove him without removing the stats/tag box image as well. Unfortunately he's obscuring the text... Any pointers? (Screenshot to illustrate.)
I have no idea why this happened, but here's the fix. Find this part of the code:

and add that dl.meta to the end of the first line. That'll restrict the background image to just the metadata area.

i like to think that L is a very scared person. brimming with fear. as he always has been. a small, cold child becomes an equally childish and cold adult. it's just that that natural dissociation and disconnect between him and the rest of the world leaves him unintentionally presenting himself as this aloof and apathetic kind of figure. much less a person and more of an entity.
i think every microexpression feels as plain as day. the smallest detail is glaringly obvious to him. he thinks "is this really what i'm like?" when faced with any outside observation of himself. this thought is quickly abandoned as it is not important. but the eventual recursion of it is always a surprise. the lifelong isolation amplifies this. he is a very scared person. fear as a motivator. fear as a director. he is so accustomed to it that it is impossible to distinguish it from regular logic.
i think about him shaking as he tries to convince Aizawa to not go down to sakura tv after Ukita dies a lot. was that a deliberate action to try to appeal to emotion as his logic alone did not convince him. was that an unintentional physical response. was that genuine. that question can be applied to almost all of his behavior. there's never been a point in his life where he's actually told the truth. i don't think he knows what that truth is. he knows what to do, not how to be.
i talk about L not feeling human a lot because it's probably one of my favorite things about his character. a living weapon. a breathing computer (+ the way the musical especially highlights the computery part of him). he's not used to having a body. and then he just ends up being one. there's no meaning to any of this.
