tonight was an important night for you. your ballet company had a recital tonight and you had the solo. you were nervous because it was your first solo routine in front of a large crowd. you knew you were capable of doing well with your solo, you have been practicing for months, but you were nervous because of someone who was in the crowd. mark lee, your closest friend who you may have devolved a crush on recently.
—
you and mark had met after your ballet practice one evening about 4 years ago. you had walked to a starbucks near your ballet studio to get something my drink before you headed home. when your name was called for your drink, mark was also reaching for his drink. you guys ended up walking towards the counter with the napkins and straws at the same time. mark noticed the ballet shoes hanging off your bag.
"are you a ballerina?" he asked while grabbing some napkins.
you were shocked he was talking to you since usually no one randomly talked about your ballet shoes.
"uh yeah, i just got out of practice," you replied.
"that's so cool. ballet is actually really cool, you guys are great dancers," mark said with a smile. "oh i'm mark by the way."
"i figured, your name's on the cup," you said, laughing a little while pointing at his name.
"oh yeah," mark laughed awkwardly.
you and mark continued talking as you walked out of the starbucks. it turned out that he lived a few streets down from you. you guys began meeting at starbucks in the evening and then actually hanging out outside of starbucks. your friendship with mark developed quickly, it felt as if you've known him for your life since you guys clicked so well.
since then, you and mark had become best friends. he always supported you in ballet and was fascinated by the dances you would perform. you appreciated him always cheering you on.
—
you had just finished with the hair and makeup artists when your phone went off. you checked the notification and it was from mark. you smiled at your phone while reading his text.
mark <3: good luck! you'll do great i believe in you :)
you: thanks mark! i'm glad you came
mark <3: i wouldn't want to miss it
you closed your phone after his last text. you were glad to have the support of your best friend. in all the years you've known mark, he always made sure to be at all your recitals. he wanted you to know that someone was always cheering you on in the crowd. it made you happy knowing he cared about you.
you got into your costume and took a few deep breaths before walking out on stage. the crowd was larger than usual. you were surprised this many people had come to the show. nonetheless, you didn't let that get to you. no amount of people could give you the same nervousness as mark could. you didn't want to mess up because he was there.
after the first 4 parts, it was finally time for your solo. you waltzed onto the stage and performed for a total of 2 minutes. those 2 minutes felt like the longest 2 minutes of your life but you danced with no errors. there were many claps as you smoothly danced off the stage. you grabbed a drink of water and the other dancers in your company hugged you to congratulate you. you were on the biggest high of your life.
the rest of the recital went on smoothly. when it finished, the crowd cheered and you guys received standing ovations. this was truly one of the best recitals your company has put on. usually, there are some minor but noticeable errors however tonight went on flawless.
after hugging everyone backstage, you walked out and were greeted by mark. he was holding a bouquet of white roses. he had his arms our first a hug, which you gladly accepted.
"these are for you," mark said while handing you the flowers.
you were a little surprised since he never brought anything with him to previous recitals.
"thank you mark, they're really pretty."
"just like you,"
you were a little taken aback by his comment. you weren't expecting him to say you're pretty out of nowhere like that.
"stop you're making me blush," you said, trying to cover your smile.
"i'm serious! you look stunning right now and when you were on stage. it's crazy, to be honest."
"it's crazy that i look 'stunning'?" you were a bit confused by his rambling.
"i didn't mean it like that. i think you look stunning every single time i look at you."
"you do?" mark had never mentioned any of this to you. you were surprised he had any attraction to you.
"of course dummy. you're like the most attractive person i've seen. i cant believe you don't see how much i love you-" mark paused when he realized what he just said. he never planned for his confession to be blurted out like that. he wanted to tell you in a romantic way.
"you love me? like not as friends?" you inquired.
"obviously."
"it's not obviously of i can't tell!" you said, slapping his shoulder. "why didn't you tell me?"
"it's not that easy to tell your best friend you're in love with them," mark said.
"i love you too," you said.
you looked into mark's eyes. they were sparkling right now. he smiled when you said those words back to him. he grabbed your cheeks and pressed a kiss on your lips, to which you returned. when he broke the kiss, he had a smile on his face.
"do you want to get starbucks?" mark asked.
you grabbed his hand before replying. "i'd love to."
summary: weddings are days full of love and joy for the happy couple. you wish you could be someone who saw this day as a joyful day but how could you when the love of your life is marrying someone else?
a/n: happy late valentine's day! i wanted to have this posted earlier but i got super busy with school so it's late. inspired by the taylor swift song if the summary and title weren't obvious enough.
—————
it was a nice day outside. the sun was free from the shadow of clouds and the weather was not too hot but not too cold either. you were dressed in formal attire, as one would at a wedding. you weren’t here to celebrate a wedding though. you weren’t the type of person who would do this on someone’s wedding day, but you couldn’t let mark marry someone else without knowing how you felt about him.
mark was your ex-boyfriend. the two of you dated for almost 4 years before you broke up with him. you knew you were a stupid person for breaking up with someone you loved so much but you felt scared for the future. you felt that it was impossible for someone to see a future with you despite mark telling you multiple times he wants to be with you for eternity. 3 years later and you still regret your dumb decision, but you came here to fix that. you and mark stayed in touch after the breakup via social media and having mutual friends. when you found out he was seeing someone else, it broke your heart. it also didn’t help that his girlfriend hated your guts.
“y/n y/l/n.”
“i’m sorry but your name isn’t on the list. are you sure you rsvp to the ceremony?”
you rolled your eyes at the poor man who was just trying to do this job by managing who came in. you knew you said you were coming but it seemed likely that the bride had your name taken off the guest list without mark knowing. when you were thinking of how you could get into the church, someone put their arm around your shoulder.
“we actually came together. my name is na jaemin.”
you looked over at were greeted with a smile by jaemin. you and jaemin had been friends since college and he was the one to introduce you to mark. jaemin was one of the mutual friends you and mark had after the breakup, so he knew how it affected the both of you.
“oh great. welcome, you guys can head right in. enjoy the wedding,” the man said.
you and jaemin walked in. jaemin still had his hand on your shoulder until you guys were away from the door so you wouldn’t get caught.
“thanks for doing that,” you said.
“no problem. i’d do this for all my friends who strangely attend the wedding of their ex,” jaemin said, laughing at how ridiculous the sentence sounds.
you shoved his shoulder and laughed with him.
“no but seriously don’t you think it’ll be a little awkward for you to come? i mean i’m glad you did don’t get me wrong.”
“i don’t know. i just felt like i had to. i wanted to see mark one last time i guess.”
“you act like once he’s married you two will never speak again.”
“oh come on, you know she doesn’t like me. i doubt she’ll let her husband speak to his ex once they're married.”
jaemin nodded along. you did have a point, mark’s fiance has been a little controlling of mark’s life recently.
“well, i’m gonna go to the grooms’ room and check on him before the wedding starts. whatever you secretly have planned in that head of yours, i hope it goes well,” jaemin said, adding a wink at the end of his sentence. he began walking towards the hall and you were left standing alone.
how obvious was it that you had an idea? maybe it was just because jaemin knows you so well but you began to overthink and worry that others know you still love mark. you walk around the venue to clear your mind and accidentally cross paths with the bride’s family. they were all dressed in pastel pink, the accent color of the wedding. you tried to casually hide behind a waiter who was walking around so you weren’t stopped by someone. sure the family didn’t know who you were, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t stop to ask how you know the couple.
you ended up walking to the bathroom and hiding in there while you gathered yourself. you began to daydream about possible ways this could end. you could tell mark before the wedding starts, that way it is private and only the two of you. you could also just walk out and pretend none of this even happened. or, you could tell him while he’s at the altar.
while in your thoughts, you hear someone outside say that the wedding will start shortly. mark must already be at the alter so your first idea is a bust. i can’t just walk out now. i’ve already made it into here, you tell yourself. you shake your head to clear your thoughts and walk out of the bathroom.
you make your way to the room where the wedding will take place and sit in the far back. you look over to the altar and see mark with his best man haechan and groomsmen johnny and jaehyun. you wonder if mark wishes it was you who will stand with him at the alter.
the organist began playing a melody indicating that the bride was on her way. the usually happy song sounded like a death march to you at this moment.
everyone stood up and waited for the doors to open. once the door opened, flower girls began throwing white and pink rose petals down the aisle. the bride followed after them. you thought her dress made her look like a pastry but she still looked pretty. she walked down the aisle as if it was a beauty pageant runway.
when she reached the alter, mark put his hands out for her to hold. they held hands while the preacher gave a speech. you rolled your eyes at the preacher describing their lives as if it was some epic love story.
“if anyone has any objections speak now or forever hold your peace,” the preacher said.
he looked around the church. there was silence as people waited for the officiant’s sermon to continue. surely, they didn’t expect anyone to actually object to the wedding.
this is my last chance, you thought to yourself. you took a deep breath. am i really going to do this? the answer was yes. yes, you were really going to interrupt a wedding. you had to do this. when you finished thinking about it, you stood up and began fiddling with your fingers.
“i object,” you said.
there was a gasp from the bride’s parents as well as mark’s parents. other guests had horrified looks on their faces at your action. you didn’t pay attention to them though. you looked directly at mark who was looking back at you.
“i love you mark. i always have and i always will, whether you’re in my life or not. i just want you to know that. this wasn’t something i wanted to do in a million years but i couldn’t watch you marry someone else without knowing that i love you. i wish i could take back the heartache i caused all those years ago but i can’t. i hope you don’t hate me for anything i’ve done because i really wish i never did it”
mark was surprised by your speech. he didn’t think you still loved him after you broke up with him 3 years ago. he kept his eyes on you the entire time you declared your love for him. the bride-to-be looked at you and then mark with anger.
when mark stood there longer than you had hoped without saying anything, you began to walk out of the row you were in and headed towards the door. you took this as a sign of defeat and that maybe mark was truly over you.
“wait!” mark calls out.
you turned around when you heard mark’s voice. mark drops the girl’s hands and ran over to you. you smiled when you realized what was happening. he grabbed your hand and ran out of the church with you. you ran to your car and got in. mark sat on the passenger side and turned to grab your face when you got in. he pressed a long-awaited kiss on your lips. he had waited for this moment for years.
“i’m so glad you said something when the preacher said ‘speak now.’”
a/n: sorry it took like over a month for another teaser lol but i plan to have the full story published by feb 25 or 26! if you want to be tagged when i post it you can reply below.

today was a quiet wednesday afternoon. you were currently in the library at your school studying for an upcoming exam. you were focused on the material in front of you that you didn’t notice mark pulling out the chair next to you and sitting down. you felt a tap on your shoulder and jumped when you turned and locked eyes with mark.
“what are you doing here?” you whispered.
“studying? you know you’re not the only person who does that right?” mark whispered back.
you rolled your eyes at his comment and went back to your notes. mark pulled out his laptop and began typing. you both sat in silence for around two hours, focusing on your individual work. you missed having him around. it’s been over a month since it was just the two of you hanging out, which was also the night you kissed him.
you began packing up your notes and mark followed by putting his laptop back in his bag.
“do you wanna like get something to eat?” mark asked. “it’s kinda late.”
you pretended to think about his offer for a little to make him nervous.
“yeah, we can go get something off-campus,” you replied, giving him a smile when you finished your sentence.
“okay great. you can choose where,” mark said.
you and mark left the library and drove to a fast food place not far away. you guys ordered from the drive-thru and mark suggested eating it at one of the playgrounds near where you guys live. mark made a few jokes while you guys ate. he missed hearing your laugh, it was one of his favorite sounds. after eating, you threw away your food and began to walk around the playground. you and marks drifted towards the swings. you guys sat on the swings and swayed slightly.
“there’s kinda a lot of stars out tonight,” you said, looking up at the sky.
mark had his eyes on you. he thought you were the prettiest person he’s ever laid his eyes on at this moment. the genuine enjoyment of the star visible in your eyes, along with the streetlights shining on you at the best angle. you looked over at mark when he didn’t respond to you. you didn’t expect him to be staring at you. mark broke out of his trance when you made eye contact.
“sorry,” he replied. his cheeks began to heat up because he was caught.
“what do you think of the stars?” you asked.
“oh, there um, nice? yeah, they’re bright tonight,” mark said.
he was obviously nervous since you saw him staring at you. you giggled at mark’s response. god, he’s so cute, you thought to yourself. you guys continued to swing in silence for a few minutes before mark jumped off his swing.
“i think it’s getting late. we should head home,” mark said.
you were confused at the abrupt ending to your night but you slowed your swinging and jumped off. you grabbed your bag and put it on your shoulder.
“thanks for hanging out tonight, i had fun,” you said, adding a smile at the end of your sentence.
“yeah, i had fun too. i missed hanging out with you.”

you were mad. actually, more than mad. you were pissed. pissed off at the fact that mark had the audacity to not only show up at this party he knew you were going to, but to be here with someone that's not you. just a day after you guys had stopped seeing each other. it felt like the biggest "fuck you" he could've done to you.
you don't know why you're so upset with this. you were the one who broke things off. you and mark weren't ever serious, but you wanted to be. you wanted mark to tell you he wants you as much as you want him, more than just for sex when one of you was bored. but when you told him you wanted to stop things, he just let you go. he didn't fight as you had hoped, and it hurt you so much.
you cried harder than you had for any other breakup, even though this wasn't even an actual breakup. you and mark were never officially together, it was more of a friends with benefits type of thing. you knew you shouldn't have continued it because practically everyone knows they never end well but you didn't want to stop seeing mark. seeing mark after you finished your classes was the highlight of your day. spending time when it's just the two of you was comforting.
----
your thing with mark started a little over 3 months ago. you and mark had been friends for a little over a year now, meeting each other during both of your's sophomore year of college. even though you guys have different majors, you still managed to become close friends, which was the beginning of your dilemma. you began to grow a crush on mark, but you didn't realize it until your friends with benefits things started.
one night at your place, mark came over with ice cream and said he'd help you study for your economics test. eventually, you stopped studying and ended up talking with mark while eating your ice cream. you accidentally got ice cream under your lip. mark noticed and got closer to you to wipe it off. unaware of the ice cream under your lip, you froze when you realized he was getting so close to your face. your breathing stopped for a second when his fingers touched your face. mark stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, caressing your chin with his thumb.
mark doesn't know where his sudden confidence came from but he kissed you. he was surprised when you kissed him back. it felt natural to kiss mark, like this was always supposed to happen.
you broke the kiss and asked mark if he had a condom. it had been a few months since you last had sex with someone and you figured since mark was here, you should take the opportunity and get laid. mark's cheeks turned to a bright pink color when you asked that, surprised you wanted to go that far with him. when he nodded, you grabbed his hand and led him to your bedroom. that night was the first of many nights between you and mark. you would alternate between your place and his, depending on who's roommates were gone at the time.
----
you had to get out of the house the party was being thrown at as fast as possible. you couldn't stand being in the same space as mark right now, it felt suffocating. after chugging your drink, you went to find the host of the party, who happens to be your friend johnny and thanked him for inviting you. johnny was confused why you were leaving so early but decided not to push for an answer when he could tell how visibly upset you were. he told you to get home safely and you were on your way out.
mark only came to this party because he knew you were going to be here. he was unable to actually locate you during the party so he gave up, thinking you decided not to come after all. mark began to fall into the party scene and danced with a stranger. after a few minutes of someone dancing with him, he began to become bored. his eyes were roaming around the room to figure out a way to leave. when his eyes found the door, you were leaving. when you walked out the door, mark went after you. he's not entirely sure why he went after you but it felt like an instinct for him to check on you.
as you were walking away from the house, you heard some rustling in the distance. you didn’t bother to look back, assuming it was some drunk student going home. you were wrong, however.
"y/n! wait up," mark yelled. you took a deep breath and continued walking, not wanting to face him right now.
when you didn't stop, mark sighed and decided to run to catch up to you. when he finally reached you, he began to walk on the right side of you. he was slightly out of breath from the jogging. you turned your head the other way to not see him. 'why can't he just leave me alone?' you thought.
"why are you leaving? it's only been like an hour since the party started?" mark asked. you were irritated with mark. irritated that he’s acting like everything is normal between the two of you. after about a minute with no response he said "so you're ignoring me? cool." it was bothering him that you were ignoring him. 'she's ignoring me after she left me?' he thought while shaking his head slightly. he began to look down at his feet while continuing to walk next to you.
the walk to your place was about 15 minutes from the party. you assumed mark would not walk the whole way with you since his date was still at the party. you started to panic a little when you realized you’re halfway to your place and mark is still walking next to you.
you broke the silence. "can you just leave me alone?"
mark looked at you which caused you to look at him too. "not until you answer my question" he replied.
you took a deep breath in, trying to keep yourself calm while you looked away from him. "isn't your date gonna wonder where you went off to?" you said, your voice barely loud enough for him to hear.
“what date?” mark asked, confused about who you were talking about.
“the person you were dancing with literally 10 minutes ago,” you said with annoyance.
realizing who you were talking about, mark responded. “that’s not my date. i don’t even know their name. and why do you even care about that?” mark could tell you were annoyed at the fact he was dancing with someone. he always could tell when something bothered you.
"just forget i even asked," you said with a sigh.
mark, however, wouldn't back down. "no, just tell me why you care so much about who i’m dancing with.”
"mark just leave me alone. okay?"
"not until you tell me why you’re so bothered about the person i was dancing with.”
you both stopped walking after mark said that. standing on the side of the road now, face to face with each other.
"because it's been a day mark! it's been a day and you're already off with someone else," you lash out.
mark, stunned by how you yelled at him, argues back. "last time i checked, you told me you didn't want to see me anymore.” he started, running his hands through his hair. “you were my best friend y/n and you just walked out on my life. so it makes no sense to me why you give a shit about my life now."
mark was now the one irritated. mark had developed a crush on you when he first met you during sophomore year. he was sure you didn't feel the same way about him until you guys kissed for the first time the night he brought ice cream over to your place. he thought that finally, you were close to being his girlfriend. until you offered to just be fuck buddies. he knew he should've said no because he will end up hurt, but he wanted to be with you so he agreed.
you couldn't hold in your anger anymore. "i’ve always cared about you, how can you even say that? i left because i wanted more than whatever we were doing. i wanted a real relationship," you begin, your voice starting to crack. "i wanted you to fight for me and tell me how you don't want it to end. how you love me as much as i love you. but you didn't. you just said okay. you didn't even act like you fucking cared about me and that hurt me so much," you sniffled when you finished confessing to mark.
mark eyes widen at your sudden confession. now he felt like an asshole. he did want to fight for you but he assumed you didn't feel the same way about him. he should’ve been honest about his feelings from the start but he was too afraid of losing you altogether.
"y/n," mark said as he walked forward to you, lessening the gap between the two of you. "i have had this massive crush on you since the day i met you. when i kissed you for the first time, i felt like the luckiest man ever. after that first night when you suggested just fucking around i thought that was you telling me you didn’t see me that way. so i didn’t feel like i should try and stop you ending it when you didn’t love me back.”
you started crying during mark's confession. 'i am literally the stupidest person ever' you thought to yourself. mark brought his hand up to your cheek, wiping your tears away. with his hang lingering on your cheek, you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him. mark kissed you back as if he had been waiting for this moment his whole life, feeling reminiscent of your first kiss with each other.
after what felt like an eternity, mark pulled back and rested his forehead on yours. you laughed a little, at yourself and at mark. both of you were too dumb to realize that you both wanted the same thing.
“we should get going before we look like weirdos making out on the side of the road,” mark said which caused a giggle to escape your lips.
mark intertwined his fingers with yours and walked you back to your place. once you reached the building, you asked mark if he wanted to come in because it was cold. mark knew what you were implying with your question and smiled before saying yes. you mirrored his smile and dragged him up to your room. you both were happy that this moment wouldn’t be filled with doubt about each other’s feelings like the previous nights had been.
a/n: idk when i'm actually publishing this, hopefully by february? i'll post another teaser when i have a date. this is kinda short for a teaser but i hope you guys look forward to it. you can reply if you wanna be part of a taglist for the actual fic. also inspired by the song by doja cat ft the weeknd.
teaser 2 here
-----
"well, thanks for walking me mark,” you said before hugging him.
mark hugged you back. “it was no problem, seriously.”
you turned around and began to walk into your building. mark stood in the front to make sure you walked in fine. you don’t know why you felt weird right now. you didn’t want mark to leave. it’s not the first this has happened but tonight, it feels stronger than the other times.
“wait!” you called out to mark, who had turned around to face you. “do you wanna come up? get some water?” you asked.
mark thought about the offer for a few seconds.
“sure.”
you smiled at mark and grabbed his hand to drag him into your building. you pushed the button for the elevator and waited in silence with mark. once the elevator doors opened, you and mark walked in. when you walked to your apartment door, you fished out your keys in your purse. you struggled a little to put the key in the doorknob and mark had reached over to help you. when his hand caressed yours, you tensed up. this certainly wasn’t the first time he had touched your hand but it felt different.
“sorry, it just looked like you were struggling and i didn’t want to stand out here all night,” mark said with a small chuckle at the end of his sentence.
you didn’t know how else to respond so you just laughed back before walking into your apartment. you flicked the lights on and walked towards the kitchen to grab two cups while mark closed the door.
mark followed you into the kitchen and you handed him his cup.
“thanks,” he replied.
“you’re welcome,” you replied.
you and mark didn’t break eye contact while the two of you stood in the kitchen drinking from your cups. you put your cup down on the counter first and mark put his down seconds later, still holding eye contact with you. he looked down at your lips and then back to your eyes. you knew what he was doing.
mark took a step forward, closing the gap between the two of you. you stayed frozen. his hand caressed your cheek while his other was placed on your back. you contemplated whether to tell him it was late and he should head home or if you wanted to cave and kiss him despite being in a relationship. you did the latter. you pressed your lips onto his and kissed him. he kissed you back and pulled you closer to him. you placed your hands around his shoulders, slightly tugging on his hair.
happy new year's to you all!! it's still 2021 in my timezone but i wanted to thank you all so much for all the support and for reading my stories, i really appreciate it. i hope the new year treats you all well!
you were currently lying on your back on mark's bed and staring at his ceiling. mark is sitting next to you working on a project for one of his classes. you came over out of the blue and wanted to hang out with mark, your best friend, but he had to finish his work. he said you could still come in if you wanted to wait until he finished and so you did.
it's been about 2 hours of waiting for him to finish but you didn't care. being in his presence was enough for you.
you heard a sigh from mark and when you turned your head he was closing his laptop and laying on his back. he turned to face you and you two stared at each other in silence. a small smile grew on his face and you began to mirror him. you felt your cheeks getting hot and went to turn around but was stopped by mark who placed his hand on your cheek. he began to stroke your cheek, both of you still staying silent. you placed your hand over mark's.
"i really want to kiss you right now," mark said.
your eyes widen at his sudden confession. sure, the two of you have flirted before but you never thought it was serious on his end like it was on yours.
"then kiss me," you replied.
and he did. he kissed as if he was never going to kiss you again. once he pulled away, you both just stared into each other's eyes.
"can i be your boyfriend?" mark asked, his voice low but loud enough for you to hear.
you giggled at how shy mark suddenly became as if he didn't just tell you he wanted to kiss you out of the blue.

mark doesn't know where his sudden confidence came from but he kissed you. he was surprised when you kissed him back. it felt natural to kiss mark, like this was always supposed to happen.
you broke the kiss and asked mark if he had a condom. it had been a few months since you last had sex with someone and you figured since mark was here, you should take the opportunity and get laid. mark's cheeks turned to a bright pink color when you asked that, surprised you wanted to go that far with him. when he nodded, you grabbed his hand and led him to your bedroom. that night was the first of many nights between you and mark. you would alternate between your place and his, depending on who's roommates were gone at the time.
----
you had to get out of the house the party was being thrown at as fast as possible. you couldn't stand being in the same space as mark right now, it felt suffocating. after chugging your drink, you went to find the host of the party, who happens to be your friend johnny and thanked him for inviting you. johnny was confused why you were leaving so early but decided not to push for an answer when he could tell how visibly upset you were. he told you to get home safely and you were on your way out.
mark only came to this party because he knew you were going to be here. he was unable to actually locate you during the party so he gave up, thinking you decided not to come after all. mark began to fall into the party scene and danced with a stranger. after a few minutes of someone dancing with him, he began to become bored. his eyes were roaming around the room to figure out a way to leave. when his eyes found the door, you were leaving. when you walked out the door, mark went after you. he's not entirely sure why he went after you but it felt like an instinct for him to check on you.
as you were walking away from the house, you heard some rustling in the distance. you didn’t bother to look back, assuming it was some drunk student going home. you were wrong, however.
"y/n! wait up," mark yelled. you took a deep breath and continued walking, not wanting to face him right now.
when you didn't stop, mark sighed and decided to run to catch up to you. when he finally reached you, he began to walk on the right side of you. he was slightly out of breath from the jogging. you turned your head the other way to not see him.
[11:59 pm] you were awoken by the feeling of a pillow being put under your head. you and your boyfriend, mark, had been watching a movie before you fell asleep with your head in his lap. when you realized he was gone, you slowly rose up and stretched your arms. when you turned your head around to look for him in the darkness of your apartment, a glowing light came from the direction of the kitchen. "happy birthday to you. happy birthday to you," mark sang as he walked towards your direction with a small cake in hand. a wide smile plastered on your face when you realized what he was doing. mark continued to sing until he reached you on the couch. he held the cake out in front of you so you could blow the candle out. "happy birthday babe." mark said with a smile on his face, similar to the one on yours. when he placed the cake down on the coffee table in front of you, you grabbed his face and began to plaster kisses all over. "i love you, but before i eat this cake i need to know if you made it." you said, teasing mark about his lack of cooking and baking skills. mark rolled his eyes at your sentence. "no, i got it from the bakery down the street. i didn't want to accidentally give you food poisoning on your birthday." you laughed at mark and took a bite of your cake with the fork he handed to you. as if it was possible, you fell even more in love with mark at this moment.

[6:34 pm] "did you get a costume for johnny's party?" you asked your boyfriend, mark, as you walked into your shared apartment. you and mark were planning on doing a couples costume, you'd be princess peach and mark would be mario. this would've been your first couples costume since you began dating about 4 years ago. when you looked over at your boyfriend, he was flustered. "mark...?" you were confused as to why he wasn't responding. "so, i um went to the costume store and looked for one and somehow i ended up buying a spider-man costume." mark said, he was talking fast by the time he mentioned a spider-man costume. you sighed and shook your head slightly at his confession. "spider-man? you've been spider-man for the last 4 years. i thought we were going to match?" you were looking forward to a matching costume with your boyfriend. mark gave you a big smile before he spoke. "wait wait wait i didn't finish. i also got you a costume!" mark said as he jumped off the couch and ran to your shared bedroom. he came out and showed you the costume. it was a gwen stacy costume. "see, we can still have a couples costume and i can be spider-man. it's a win-win." you couldn't help but laugh at how excited mark was to show you your costume. you walked over to him and gave him a hug, to which he returned. you looked up at him with a big smile and told him the costumes were perfect.
[8:56 pm] while sitting in your dark room with the only light coming from your television, you laid in the arms of your boyfriend mark as he rubbed circles on your arm with his thumb. you guys had been having a halloween movie marathon today since it was a rainy day and you both felt like doing nothing. the rain was loud outside, which you felt just made the night even better. mark held you while you guys watched movies for hours, only separating from one another to go to the bathroom or to get a snack. instead of watching the movie, mark looked down at you with the most loving look in his eyes. feeling his eyes on you, you looked up and smiled at him. "is my head more interesting than the movie?" you asked sarcastically. mark giggled at you, "i'm just admiring you babe." mark said before kissing your forehead. you smiled bigger and rested your head back on his chest. mark pulled you a little closer to him and whispered "i love you". even if it was not the first time mark said those words to you, your face heated up like it was. “i love you too mark” you replied while slightly squeezing his chest.
"uh, what are you doing here?" mark asked as you stood in his doorway. "johnny let me in." you replied, your tone was cold which sent goosebumps up mark's arms. he could always tell when you were upset. you continued to stand in mark's doorway while he sat on his bed. the room was filled with awkwardness, anger, and confusion. mark was the only one who felt awkward, while you felt some anger and lots of confusion.
after a few minutes, you decided to let everything out since mark, again, wasn't saying anything. "what the hell mark? two weeks of no texts, calls, surprise visits, nothing! you’ve been avoiding me whenever we’re in the same area and you are not good at hiding that. if you didn't want to be friends with me anymore you could've acted like an adult and said it to my face instead of avoiding me like i was some annoying person from an app who wouldn’t leave you alone after a date or something." you said, almost running out of breath. mark continued to just sit on his bed, trying to think of the best way to respond.
"i know."
"i know? i know is all you have to say?” you said throwing your hands up in the air. “gosh, i don't know what i was expecting coming here."
you were about to walk out of his doorway before mark called out which made you stop in your tracks. he called you over and gestured to his desk chair so you can sit there. after a few seconds of thinking, you gave in and sat in the chair.
"look, i know i'm a dumbass for ignoring you. i've been thinking a lot and-"
"oh god mark. if you're actually going to say you want to stop being friends i'm going to-"
"i like you. that's what i was thinking about."
your eyes widen at his confession. shock and happiness took over your body. "you had to avoid me for two weeks to figure out you like me? why didn't you just tell me as soon as you realized?"
"well, it's not that easy to tell your best friend of 3 years that you like them. plus i didn't know if i could handle rejection, especially from you"
as sad as it was for mark to think he was potentially going to have his heart broken by you, you couldn’t help but giggle at his confession.
"you really are dumb. why would i reject you when i've been so obvious about me liking you?"
"you like me? since when?"
"since forever dude. why do you think everyone would joke about us being a couple? and it was never an accident when everyone would leave us alone in a room while they went out." mark began to think back on all your group outings and it was beginning to piece together.
"i can't believe how oblivious i was to everything." mark said with his hand over his mouth.
you laughed at mark's realization, finding it cute as he started processing the moment happening.
"well, since we are on the same page, how about we have an actual date soon? just the two of us," you asked, a little nervous to be making the first move now. mark smiled at your request. "why not now? i heard the fall fair started yesterday, we could totally go to that right now."
mark was so excited to finally have a date with you. you nodded yes to his request and his cheeks became the brightest shade of pink you could ever think of. mark sprung off his bed and grabbed your hands as he led the way to your first date.
"god, why am i doing this? what if he hates it?" you began thinking to yourself. you were standing on a chair trying your best to hang streamers up on the ceilings. you were trying your best to decorate the apartment you shared with your boyfriend, mark, for your anniversary. you and mark had been dating for three years. these last three years have been the best years of your life. you enjoyed every moment between you and mark. he was the love of your life. mark was not home because he had to do a quick business trip a few days ago. you were sad he had to leave right before your anniversary but he reassured you he would be home in time for the day. you hadn't been paying attention to the time while decorating and didn't notice mark would be arriving home soon. as you were standing on the chair, attempting to hang one last streamer, mark walked in the door. "surprise!" you shouted, in an awkward tone due to how you looked standing on the chair when you heard the door close behind him. "babe, you did all this by yourself?" mark asked while walking over to help you off the chair. he gave you a tight hug once your feet were on the ground. "yeah, it looks so professional, right? i really have an eye for decorating" you said back in a sarcastic tone. mark laughed at your response. "i missed you so much" "i missed you too, mark" you placed your chin on mark's chest and he looked down and kissed you. mark broke the kiss with a smile on his lips as he said the words "happy anniversary babe."
a/n: sooo i started writing this as a short piece but i kinda got carried away and now it's at about 1.5k words... i don't know when ill have the whole thing published (hopefully by the end of october) but i decided to post a little teaser to see if anyone is interested in it!
you met mark during the summer, a little less than a month after your high school graduation. it was a late saturday night when you decided to take a walk to the convenience store and get some snacks. it was about a 30-minute walk between the store and your house. you liked to walk around at night by yourself, it helps clear your mind and just have some peace and quiet without your parents bothering you about your plans for the future.
you first grabbed your go-to drink, a watermelon-flavored arizona tea. after you thought about what snacks you wanted. you don't have a usual snack since your mind changes often about them. tonight, you felt like having some cookies. there was only one bag of cookies left since it was late at night. as you reached out to grab it, you felt your hand land on someone else's instead of the bag of cookies. you looked over and met eyes with a boy. you instantly felt butterflies in your stomach while looking at him. "you can have them" he said, after a few moments of silence. you snapped out of your little panic and began to blush. "oh no it's fine, you can have them. i'll just get some chips." you said with an awkward smile on your face. the boy did a small laugh which made you start panicking again. did you have something in your teeth? was your hair in a mess right? is there a stain on your shirt? as you went through many scenarios, the boy spoke again which made you want to hide forever due to embarrassment.
"well i guess neither of us can have the cookies if your hand is still on mine" you looked down and realized you still haven't taken your hand off of his. "oh my god, i'm so sorry," you said and took your hand off immediately. you turned around and walked into the next aisle so you wouldn't have to face the cute boy again. 'i can’t believe how stupid i am. why did i have to be so weird' you thought to yourself. you wanted to scream at this moment but you calmed yourself down and grabbed the nearest bag of chips before walking to the cashier.
when you walked out of the store, you noticed the boy waiting outside. "how are the cookies?" you said, making him jump. "they're good actually, do you want one?" he asked while holding the bag out for you. you grabbed a cookie and smiled at him when you took a bite. "thanks." you smiled at him and then began to walk back home. "wait" he called out which made you turn around. "you're walking home? by yourself?" "yeah? i usually do." "it's late, i'll walk with you. you never know when some freak will come and try to harass you." now, you know you shouldn't just walk with strangers especially to the place you live but you couldn't help but trust this boy. you had only known him for a few minutes yet you felt like he couldn't hurt you. "um, sure i guess. come on."
"i'm mark by the way." "i'm y/n" you guys began to walk home together. it was a little awkward at first but you decided to break the silence by asking him about any of his interests. you quickly learned that mark plays the guitar and has been interested in writing song lyrics occasionally.
by the time you guys reached your house, you wanted to be friends with mark. you don't know what was so charming about him, but you didn't want this to be the only time you guys talk.
you hanged mark your phone and asked him for his number. considering how awkward you were in the store with the cookies, mark was surprised by how straightforward you were with asking for his number. he was happy though since he had thought about asking you for yours.
mark stayed and watched you enter your house to make sure you were safe before he started heading to his place. you texted asking for him to text you when he got home, to make sure he was safe. mark began to fluster when he saw your text.
