Like what’s up with the canon sorting in Harry Potter though? I agree that Harry is a true Gryffendor in his insistent bravery both in his actions and in his challenge of the Sorting Hat, and I can see how Hermione values bravery over her own qualities, after her speech in Philosopher’s, but Ron was loyal to the extent that it led him back to his friends when his bravery failed him, so why isn’t he a true Hufflepuff? Fred and George are clear candidates for Slytherin - they love a bit of cunning plan - hatching and have huge ambition. In fact, I’d say they’re more cunning and ambitious and resourceful than brave and I think above bravery, they seem to value loyalty.
I see how Snape is a true Slytherin, but why aren’t Crabbe and Goyle Hufflepuffs? Unless they, like Harry, chose their house.
James, Lily, Sirius and Peter, I can see why they’re in Gryffendor though the first 3 have qualities of all the houses, but Lupin… often the coward (to his own disappointment). Often unprepared and, though book smart, no more than the other 3. I think more than anything he is a Hufflepuff. It is his loyalty and trust that set him right more often than not (Deathly Hallows much?)
WHY is Albus Dumbledore not a Slytherin? He is the single most cunning, resourceful man in the series, more so than Voldemort himself. He, perhaps in his later years, lacks the ambition but in his younger years her certainly didn’t!
And Arthur Weasley. We never see him demonstrate more than the standard bravery of the main characters, but what he does have is a fantastic, unhindered curiosity which I think would have made him a fun addition to Ravenclaw
Finally HAGRID. Why is this man not a Hufflepuff??! I sometimes feel like JK just didn’t think when she housed him. Yes, he’s brave, but more than anything he’s fair, loyal and unafraid to defend those he loves.
This is why I love the ‘you have to ask to be in Gryffendor’ theory. Because most of Gryffendor house look like they were put there not by their qualities but because they’re good guys and also main characters.
