This is the inflorescence of a pineapple plant, Ananas comosus. The plant can be up to 1.5m tall. They can be pollinated by hummingbirds, which causes the fruit to bear seeds, but this reduces the quality of the fruit. Because of this, hummingbirds cannot be imported into Hawaii, where pineapples are produced. [x]
