Cas wakes up cold. He reaches for Dean beside him but his half of the bed is empty. “Dean?”

No one answers.

Rubbing his eyes with the heels of his palms, Cas rolls on his back. After a sigh, he starts to sit up.

“Wait! Wait! Wait!” comes Dean’s voice down the hallway. His head peeks around the doorway. “Are you awake? Stay in bed!”

“Dean?”

“Hold on, Cas.” Dean turns the corner into the room with a tray in his hand. A glass of orange juice, a napkin, some silverware, and a plate of waffles. He lowers it onto Cas’s lap and Cas can read the words spelled out on the waffles in strawberry slices. I LOVE YOU.

“Oh.”

“Do you like it?” Dean gives a toothy hope-filled smile.

Cas gives him one right back. “I love it. I love you.”

Dean leans down to kiss him. Cas brushes his fingers through Dean’s hair, keeping him there.

“Happy Anniversary, babe,” Dean says against Cas’s lips, the last thing he says for quite a while – until someone’s elbow or hip knocks the orange juice off the tray onto the floor. Then, “Oh, shit!”

They laugh as they clean it up, and eat the rest of the breakfast together.

As Cas feeds Dean a strawberry slice, fingers lingering at Dean’s lips, he says, “Happy Anniversary, Dean.”

The waffles end up on the floor after that.

I mean, if he had a kid, and that kid was like, ‘dad, I’m going to be in a play’ Cas would just be a million questions a minute like, ‘what role are you playing?? when is it?? how can I help?? who should I invite?? do you need a costume?? do you need me to run lines with you??‘ 

and like that kid might be some random sheep in the background whose sole line is, 'baa baa’

and Cas would be in the audience with tears running down his cheeks, elbowing Dean like, 'do you see them there?? aren’t they amazing? our child is a precious gift, their talent is remarkable, look at their costume, Dean, they are the best sheep in the entire world’

he would lead the standing ovation. he’d clap louder than anyone else.
