I think about this all the time, and it’s one of my biggest gripes with LOTF and on. We got good moments through LOTF and FOTJ of the authors acknowledging the relationship between Tahiri and the Solos … but then it would be totally disregarded and stomped on two seconds later.

One of my Star Wars pet peeves is when people (usually male fans tbh) say that Han was trying to aura farm or be suave when he said “I know.” Thats not how I read it at all. His tone isn’t cocky or humorous. It’s soft and gentle. This is a man who’s at a point where he’s not ready to be open or vulnerable enough to say “I love you too,” so he does it in the next best way he knows how: he comforts her. Up until recently, Han and Leia had spent most of their time together bickering or arguing. When you lose someone, it’s natural to agonize over what you should have said or done differently, and he doesn’t want that for her. So he reassures her. She has nothing to feel guilty about. In a time full of war and terror, that’s the one thing she doesn’t have to doubt.

He knows.

ALSO. Leia being reluctant to be present for her grieving daughter because "she didn't want you to think she thought you were too much of a kid to get through it" just like. Shows how strained their relationship already is going in to the war. Jaina's sixteen, she IS a kid. But she already chafes with her mother to begin with, so Leia thinks going to her when she's this hurting and vulnerable would just make it worse.
