Don't you think putting serious news in a meme is inappropriate? Clearly not. I believe that this meme is part of Tumblr Culture™ and has a purpose informing people of current events. If you dislike the format of this blog, please block me and move on.

Graham was a homophobe and was seen as one of Trump's closest allies in the Senate. His death will not meaningfully impact the partisan balance of the Senate, as South Carolina's Republican governor can immediately appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of his term.

Graham's death, which was unexpected, comes as the nation is expectantly waiting for the death of former Republican Senate Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell — who was hospitalized weeks ago and has mysteriously not made any public appearances, statements, or updates since.

The formerly-Catholic Society of St Pius X triggered the schism by consecrating bishops without the Pope’s approval, a key part of the ceremony for Catholic believers.

The group has fought with the broader Church for decades on Vatican II reforms. This included things like “Mass should be offered in languages other than Latin” — but SSPX is generally seen as mostly being opposed to Vatican II’s attempt at building peace between Catholicism and people of Jewish & Muslim faiths.

Federal law has long required that members of certain independent commissions — e.g. the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, etc — can only be removed for a good reason. By a 6–3 vote (with all Democrats dissenting) SCOTUS has just blessed Trump's effort to fire anyone who he doesn't like, irrespective of federal law.

The exception is Federal Reserve Governor Cook, who SCOTUS allowed to remain in her position. Nominally this is because she wasn't given due process to dispute Trump's (bogus) accusations of mortgage fraud; in reality, this is because the Republican justices are literally invested in the status quo and extending the decision to the Federal Reserve would cause the economy to crash.

How was there no update on the war "ending"

Since the war "ended", the strait has closed, countries have continued to fight each other through proxies in Lebanon, and the President has continued to threaten bombings of Iran. On top of that, I believe there's a real risk that the Iran-hating Republicans in Congress reject the peace deal. (The deal waives sanctions on Iran, which requires the consent of Congress.)

Until a formal treaty (not memorandum of understanding) is reached, I don't consider the war to have meaningfully ended.

The vote was 6–3, with all Republican justices in the majority and all Democratic justices in dissent.

The Temporary Protected Status program was created by Congress to allow humanitarian protection for those fleeing unsafe countries. (Haiti has seen ongoing gang violence.) The law gives specific procedures that the president must follow to legally rescind TPS status; Trump did not follow those procedures; and today, the Supreme Court ruled that the judiciary could not review that defect.

This decision to withdraw legal status from hundreds of thousands of Hatian immigrants — virtually all of whom came here legally — stands as part of the Trump administration's wider racial project of restricting immigration to White people. (The asylum program has been reduced to — literally — only allowing White South Africans.)

It is worth noting that the Director of National Intelligence is the fourth woman forced out of the Trump's cabinet this term (joining the Attorney General, Sec. of Homeland Security, and Sec. of Labor); no men have been forced out, even among very clear evidence of misuse of office for personal reasons (including flying on taxpayer's expense to visit the US Olympic Hockey Team, flying on taxpayer's expense to visit a girlfriend in Las Vegas, or excessively drinking on the job — and that's just one guy (the head of the FBI)).

Trump was already facing audit for $100 million in unpaid taxes; that will be dropped, and no future audits would be allowed. If the IRS can't audit the Trump family for tax fraud, there is no reason to expect that they would pay taxes going forward.

This is in addition to the proposed $1.776 billion slush fund for the Trump administration to hand out to political allies and January 6th attackers.

As a reminder, this "settlement" comes from Trump suing the IRS — which he controls — for $10 billion. The judge overseeing the case seemed likely to throw out the suit, saying that Trump cannot sue an agency that he himself controls.

Democrats have intervened in the court case to try and block the settlement, and are pushing for Congress to take up a discharge petition blocking it.

Voters approved a constitutional amendment to allow for the Congressional map to be gerrymandered in April, as a response to Republicans doing the same in other states. The court did so on narrow, technical grounds.

Since the Voting Rights Act was gutted by SCOTUS, Republicans have gone further — removing two additional majority-black districts in Florida and one in Tennessee.

The Governor — who only has power to suspend elections in a time of emergency — said that the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday striking down most of the Voting Rights Act qualified as an "election emergency" and suspended the Congressional primaries. Ballots had already been sent out to overseas & absentee voters.
