I LOVE THE RECURRING THEME THAT VADER CAN’T SET FOOT ON THIS HELLHOLE OF A PLANET WITHOUT HAVING A MAJOR MEMORY COME UP AND SMACK HIM IN THE FACE. If it’s not a memory of the arena fight (which is what started the Clone Wars, which is what destroyed so much of him, that’s where everything really went wrong for him, even if he can’t be honest about which parts went wrong), then it’s a softer memory, the moment Padme confessed that she loved him in return, the moment they kissed and their relationship truly started. Vader tries so hard to murder everything about Anakin Skywalker within him, this is only the one panel, the impression I get is that he squashed the memory as quickly as it surfaced, he couldn’t stand to look at it, it’s there and gone as quickly as anything.  He barely hesitates, before forcing himself to keep going, forcing himself to squash it down, rather than dealing with it and eventually making peace with it and letting the hurt go. Never let it be said that this isn’t Anakin Skywalker.  Not only does he treat his memories just like Anakin did–letting them hurt him and cut him apart, rather than dealing with them–but they are Anakin’s memories.  That kiss, that fight against the Separatists, all of those are pure Anakin Skywalker.
