Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.

Through social media and ads. They make money from our attention, which we give them for free because it makes us feel important and seen. This is a psychologic weakness they have found a way to exploit. And we knowingly do it. That's the crazy thing.

She knew, just like I knew, the instant we made eye contact across the room. "So what's the reward if I win?" she asked. And I knew there were three ways out, and one was slimmer than the others. By far. The other two were less interesting, but more likely. I wasn't sure which way I had my money on, but I was more concerned with her intuition. Cause the gut picks it for you. It's not some thinking game. The thinking happens once the gut's done the work. Sometimes there's a whole lot of thinking the gut drags you through. It's not perfect. No one is. Not even her. But that was the game.
