So James McAvoy once said that it's common for British filmmakers to dumb down their movies to better appeal to American audiences, as they are afraid that they won't understand them otherwise. Do you think it true? And why?

i honestly find a little bit laughable when canadians, americans, british, australians, etc. come at each other pretending they don’t engage in the same exact behaviors, there’s also this very toxic idea that british is best, british is smart, british is class, british is deep, british is fancy, even british accent is considered sexy for fucks sake and those ideas are rooted in colonialism…. still, he kinds of has a point, i don’t think is united states alone, but rather english-speaking nations that have this approach of make films that don’t ask too much of the audience, any artist working for a big studio will find themselves with that limitation, so in a sense that argument has truth, in the wording is questionable, not self aware and arrogant.

"We make loads of movies to try and hit in America, and yet it's never the ones aimed at America that do well. We dumb our movies down because we want Americans to understand them," the BAFTA winner tells SkyNews.

"Then Americans watch it and go, 'This is a really unsophisticated, dumbed-down movie. Why would we buy this? Why do we like this? We don't.' It's like we're patronizing them and short-changing ourselves," he says.

And the irony of it all? "Do we make movies just for America?," asked McAvoy. "Yeah, of course we do. We make loads of movies that try and hit in America, and yet it's never the ones that were aimed at America that do well."
