Valentine’s didn’t really affect James too much and for the past few years, he had taken it in stride. Sure, the past crept up now and then - Valentine’s or not - but he had a good track record. But somehow, this year was different. He wasn’t really sure why, but before he knew it he had been at the bar and had a few too many drinks already so that he was a little more than tipsy. Leaning against the bar, he suddenly turned to the young woman beside him who had been minding her own business all this time. 

“Word of advice,” he began though she didn’t ask for it, “If you fall in love, make sure you know the person. Like, really know the person. Or else it will bite you in the ass.”

“Aren’t there a million seasons of that? How many hours of TV is that? I don’t think I’ve seen one episode, but I’m also not very good when it comes to television or movies.”

“It’s ten seasons, but for some reason I never get sick of rewatching it.” He shrugged. “I dunno, it’s just one of those shows you can rewatch over and over again even if you already know the jokes or the story and yet you’re still entertained.”

Beckett’s face lit up with a grin, “man, I fuckin’ feel ya.” It wasn’t rare that Beckett would get home from work and watch an episode of the silly show and get a little laugh. “I was hooked on that shit when I was a kid along with Seinfield. My daughter fuckin’ hates Friends it, though.”

“Dude, why?” James said with a frown. “I mean, I’m sorry, but I’m kinda judging how you raised your kid,” he said though he said it playfully so as to ensure the other man knew he was joking. “I don’t trust people who don’t like Friends. They’re probably the spawn of the devil - no offense,” he raised his hands as a playful smile appeared on his lips.

James looked at the young woman with a raised eyebrow before chuckling. “Sure, but generally everyone likes Friends so you can never go wrong with it.”

“Ah, English majors,” James said with a wry smile on his face. “Thinking they’re all better than us just because they’ve read so much Ray Bradbury.” He shrugged. “I honestly think they just have a bi stick up their ass.” He smiled and nodded. “You see? We’re not so different, you and I.”

Katrina drained the rest of her glass, setting it down. Over the years she’d gotten far more responsible (or well, more so) and her next course of action was to lean over the bar and ask for a glass of water to chase down the headache that was likely to plague her the next morning. “Now that’s a nice thing to say.” Her head canted curiously, “Are you on dating apps?”

“What, that men would be willing to give you pork?” James said curiously. “Hey, whatever floats your boat, Kat.” James finally downed the rest of his beer and leaned back in his seat. “My gosh, no,” James said. “I’m sorry but I’m not too keen on the dating apps. I’m... okay.” He waved a hand dismissively.
