This is an embroidery of a flower.

This project was undertaken to improve my confidence with embroidery, a subject i had only really dabble with in previous projects.

After feedback and a discussion with the teacher I decided to add more colour in the form of a net.

This included working out how the net would be coloured and how it would be drawn.

I began by mixing pva glue and metallic silver paint. This was very thin which I tried to counter with wood glue.

I poured the mix onto yellow card and rotated it in the air so the swirls would go in more than one direction. I then added pink neon ready mix paint, and some blue on top of that whilst it was still wet, and then painted on some basic stars with green acrylic, to add some opposing bright colours

I began by mixing red acrylic paint into some watered down neon ready mix that had previously been mixed with other colours. I pored it onto the paper then scraped it away, this meant the red stuck to the paper in interesting patterns and had an interesting texture for the green.

I then watered down some gold metallic paint and pored it on top. After that I added on metallic brow and gold and gesturally brushed them around at the to, and then added some neon pink hearts for an opposing colour pops.

I began with a gestural swirl as a background element which I think works very well. I then added pva to ready mix neon paint which made it very runny and pored it. I let it dry and did this several more times with different colours. I which I had rotated the paper whilst doing this, so the drips went in different directions.

I later went back and added some dark thick paint and scraped it with a comb to add texture. I also added some red acrylic hearts for a pop of colour and painted it into the top swirls.

Colours blend into each other, blue-to-red gradient.

The most prominent parts of the image are done as opaquely as possible, and the background is done with watered down acrylics to make it seem ‘hazy’.

I removed the frog tape carefully with the aid of a seam ripper. I wish I had thought to add more squares over the first layer to have more translucent colour, however I only though of this when getting to the final layer of waved colour, so...

I began by creating the first translucent layer with watered down acrylic paint. I then added frog tape in a large wavy line, cutting it rounded at the edges to make it look more natural. I then painted the whole paper with burnt sienna acrylic paint with several layers, allowing ti to dry between layer to mak it as opaque as possible, covering the paper completely. I the added wavy lines in the same manner using a large flat brush in violet, ultramarine and lemon.
