Peter let out a snort of his own, something quite undignified.Ā āTechnically, Iām an Alpha because I staged a coop and kicked the old Diamond Alpha out. But⦠it was because I thought I could offer better for them. I donāt really know much about the history of this place before I got here, how the pack split into packs, butā¦ā He let out a soft sigh, shoulders lifting in a bit of a shrug.Ā āI love them. Each and every one of them. Weāre snobby, I get that. We come across as full of ourselves, we are, really. But theyāre good people. My people. They wouldnāt have a problem with a few extra people around the house, kids or otherwise. If they do, they can go take the bunks up at the welcome center.ā Head shaking a bit, he offered a bit of a strangled chuckle.Ā āBesides, a few more well dressed kids around the reservation wouldnāt be a bad thing.ā
He tried to pretend that the manās kind words didnāt effect him in that moment, cause a lump in his throat. He had to swallow hard to force it back, blink a few times. That was the dream. Whether he was here or on a beach somewhere. To raise kids of his own, to teach them how to be good people, to hope and worry about them as they grew and became their own people.Ā āThanks.ā He finally managed to get out, sounding a little more watery than he would have liked, but it came out anyway.
However, he felt his face flare with a bit of heat as he quickly cleared his throat.Ā āI donāt even really know how the good doctor really feels about me, let alone kids.ā Reaching up, he quickly straightened his tie. It wasnāt entirely true, he had a pretty good idea of how Kolya felt about him, but he wouldnāt put words in the manās mouth.Ā āThat would be the dream, though, wouldnāt it? White picket fence, two point five kids and probably too many pets.ā
Details. Honestly. Peter still voluntarily decided to stage a coop and take on all that responsibility and leadership himself, so no person in this whole place would be shocked to hear he wanted a child or seven. But still, something in Jamie warmed, as it always did when he heard someone else talk about their pack the way he did his. He might not fully understand the way the other packs saw and moved about in the world but he respected each of the leaders for doing what they thought was best for their people. And the throwback line had a soft smile tugging on his lips as he momentarily thought about the initial packs. None of them had known what the fuck they were doing, really. It was honestly kind of a miracle theyād mostly all lasted as long as they had - and made some sort of almost functioning society at that.
Shaking the past off, he refocused on Peterās words, head tilting slightly as he got a little defensive but Jamieād never doubted that they were good people. Maybe not to everyone, but at the very least, to each other. And that's really what they all needed, wasn't it? Families. Pack lines didnāt mean family lines for Jamie - he had too much history with too many - but he could understand how it would for some of the others. āThatās really what it all boils down to.ā Jamie said finally. āYou loving them. Them loving you. The restā¦works itself out. But youāre not wrong. We could always use some more well-dressed kids.ā Kids who might have to be told a few times that they were worth the time and effort to wear those clothes. And yeah. Fuck it. Jamie was getting a kid. At least one.
āOf course.ā Jamie said easily, aware that his words had struck something but not wanting to draw anymore attention to it then Peter may have wanted. Besides, what fun was being the person people came to with their crushes if you couldnāt use that knowledge every now and again to tease? Jamie couldnāt recall ever seeing a blush on Peter before. This was awesome. His eyebrow rose slightly as he began to fuss before admitting he wasnāt sure how the doc felt about him, let alone children, and hmm. āSeems a conversation or two needs to be had.ā Jamie mused before his mood unexpectedly crashed back down. āIt was. Once upon a time.ā Jamie said softly, a shadow passing over his face, before shrugging. āI donāt know what my dream is now. Butā¦yeah, sorry. I hope it all works out for you. Doc and fence and all. My fingers are crossed and Iāll check in now and again very subtly to get the newest updates. And to set up play dates.ā Oooo. Maybe they could invite the doc to one, see how he was with the children, and if he could handle the sight of Peter+children. He was a genius. Theyād justā¦have to wait until the dust settled a bit and itād be safe for the humans to come back.
