she’s staring at the poster with a sigh. “it would be naive to think it, but maybe this time he’ll finally talk about the girls..?” it’s futile. practically everyone in this town can see through mayor grant’s facade. everything’s a ploy. “i suppose on the bright side, if you attend, it’ll be easier to catch him on the spot and call him out.” the brazen idea surprises even herself once she utters it. part of her definitely needs to ‘get it out of her system’ as some people have said. either that, or these savage musings might get out of hand. keeping quiet simply isn’t something her mind wants to settle for anymore, it seems.
“you’re right, that is naive.” arms crossed across her chest, head titled as she continues to stare inquisitively at the poster. hoping to find some redeemable feature in it. of course, not finding even remote success. “you know, that is exactly why i was considering going. maybe we could both call him out. see how he flounders his way away from that in front of the cameras.” giving her a smile as she turns her head to glance at the other. a smile on her lips. “i just can’t believe he’s this ignorant.”
to her , the dinner seemed as though it was nothing more than a ploy , a false sense of SECURITY , a way to bring in more cameras / publicize the town ! knew that she wasn’t the only one , knew that others saw through the act of the mayor , and wanted the truth . frame lined up next to others , eyebrow arched . ❝ enjoying yourself ? ❞
although she had been vocal about her disapproval of the dinner, she’d ended up attending anyway. it would be, as many as suggested, a good opportunity to call the mayor on his bluff. and maybe even get something beneficial for the town out of it. one could hope - at least. her glance moving to the other when she started talking - caught a little off guard by how beautiful the woman beside her was. “doesn’t everyone here know this dinner is just a stupid publicity ploy?” crossing her arms over her chest, she gives the other woman the start of a smile. “although the company isn’t terrible.”
“seems like it.” although valentina believed in the extraterrestrial, she did think that this whole thing was a stupid idea. “he probably does, but maybe he thought it was stupid or maybe he’s seen one too many alien movies and got scared of what might happen to his beloved town or whatever.”
“well, if the mayor really cared about what was happening in his ‘beloved town’, he would talk to the cops. everyday those girls are gone is another day we’re losing out on searching.” sighing as she puts down the newspaper, the mayor’s ignorance and downright dismissal irking her to no end. “are you planning on going?”
“feelings and i don’t really get along. everyone just tries to get in your pants, right? so no. no unresolved feelings. waiting for the right girl to exist.”
“i guess sometimes i think i’m helping some people cope. i don’t know - maybe they think becoming more intimately familiar with the supernatural will make all the alien talk okay. working with amalia also isn’t the worst thing in the world.”
“ exactly, you’ve got it. “ cassie giggled, nodding her head. cassie occasionally forgot that jamie wasn’t a local. jamie thought a lot like the frustrated locals in this town, including cassie. she could appreciate that about her friend. “ of course they are. “ cassie continued to laugh, rolling her eyes. “ are you going on friday ? “
“ugh, i only did it for two seconds and i already feel dirtier.” shaking her head with a teasing smile, she leans forward on her elbows. considering cassie’s question. “i have no idea. i was thinking about going just to piss him off.” she lets out a breath. “are you? i mean at least you’d make it tolerable.”
“ apparently, he is. “ cassie said. she was trying to be respectful, but she couldn’t help but giggle at the fact that it was becoming a reality. “ you’re thinking by jamie standards. you need to think in mayor grant standards. i swear, the only time i spoke to him, he called me katie about three times and thought my sister’s name was bianca. “
“so basically i need to think like a capitalist sleezeball who’s only care is if the way the public sees him is glowing?” it’s incredibly scathing and in no manner what one would expect a citizen to say in such a quaint town. but she wasn’t a native as much as she liked coldbrook. and she was quick to call out it’s failings. “and by the way, everyone should think by jamie standards. because jamie standards are awesome.”
“so the mayor is really going ahead with this.” clearly, she was not impressed with the mayor’s poor attempt to get back into the citizens good graces. of course, her pessimism didn’t help. “doesn’t he think he should be addressing that there are girls missing instead of holding dinners for the press?”

They’re often described as +IMAGINATIVE and +INTELLIGENT, but -INSECURE and -PESSIMISTIC at the same time. They claim that they’re a SKEPTIC to the supernatural occurrences, but in this small town, anything is possible.
so first of all she’s not a coldbrook native !! she came over when she got into coldbrook university to study criminology even though that’s not what she really wanted to do. it was kind of a last minute decision and now she has absolutely !! no idea what she’s gonna do with her life.
before that, she’d moved around a lot as a kid just because she was raised by just her mother. and unfortunately, her mother had a rotating door of boyfriends with a similarly rotating door of demands. so they moved a lot.
it wasn’t something she especially minded it just ?? happened ??
honestly she has no idea ?? what she’s doing with her life around the last month of school she was like ?? fuck i think i did the wrong thing. but she had absolutely no idea how to confront it.
so when she finished her degree she got kinda stuck. and as been stuck ever since, she didn’t really see the sense in leaving coldbrook to just go be confused somewhere else. except there she’d be confused and lonely so she just voted ?? for the lesser of two evils.
a generally good time ?? take her out ??
she has all these exciting fantasies and goals she’d love to make a reality but ?? she literally does nothing to make them happen. like she will have long elaborate plans and conversations about what she’d do on a roadtrip across all fifty states or what she’d do as a deputy or a cop but ?? when u suggest she actually does, she clams up real hard and says she can’t. probably just?? wants the stability she never got throughout her childhood ??
she’s also ?? highkey insecure which highkey one of the reasons she’s been so stuck is she refuses to actually be proactive in her life. she’s just kind of like a passenger chilling. pls teach her to adult.
she got a job as a tour guide for the supernatural tours because it just sounded like something that would pass the time without being mind-numbing. even though it had absolutely nothing to do w her major. the pay was decent too so she was sold.
