“So, you’re Jamie. My name is Chumana Armstrong. I’m the head of the music department. I’m glad Mayor Dewey finally got someone to help around here.” she said a bright smile on her face,  “I’m the cellist for the band.”

Jamie still couldn’t believe it! He was going to work at the community theatre! It felt as though all the pain and struggles of the past finally paid off! How many times had he been on the verge to giving up? How many tears had he cried when no one was looking - And sometimes when they were? He felt as if Fortuna had finally agreed to be his wife, picking him up to carry him over the treshold. Wait! That was wrong... All of a sudden, a voice brought his thoughts to an abrupt halt. Still confused by his failed allegory, he turned around.

He wasn’t sure what to feel in front of the young woman. Firstly, she was a musician. In Kansas, somewhere between rejections he had picked up an awkward shyness in front of anyone who might be more experienced than him. On the other hand, he didn’t want to embarrass himself on his first day. He wanted to make clear Mayor Dewey had given this position to the right guy. Uncomfortably, he settled in between.  Immediately he took her hand, grinning - Although he could not stop himself from blushing. “Why, hello! It is always nice to meet a fellow artist!” He lowered his head in a semi-bow “Let’s do our best to gift Beach City with the beauty it deserves!”

“Oh my gosh, are you alright? You don’t look too good.”

Sadie noticed the shaken state the other was in as soon as she saw him. He came in looking like he had to witness a horrid beast come crashing through town, which wouldn’t be shocking it that was the truth. Then again, since Jamie seemed to be the most dramatic boy in town, she couldn’t be sure of what was wrong.

It was raining. Jamie walked into the donut shop, head as low as his spirits. He was soaked, hair clinging to his face while he desperately tried to keep himself warm by putting his arms around himself. It didn’t work. Normally, he would have appreciated the effect of the dull, grey sky. Wasn’t this the perfect movie scenario? A lonesome hero, wandering through empty streets only rain and sadness as his company...Yeah. He would have totally digged that. Unfortunately, this was different. Without a word,he slumped onto a chair. This wasn’t the usual drama zone. It felt raw and real and...awful. His face drained of all blood, he finally turned around to look at Sadie. He had always appreciated the girl who was able to not only put up with his antics but with absolutely everyone else, too. Including Lars to whom he rarely spoke - He played the role of a heartless jerk a little too well for his liking.  “I don’t know...haha...” He chuckled weakly, absent-mindedly touching his head. “Maybe I am back in the drama zone?” He didn’t sound convinced. For an actor to convey his role he had to believe it first, right?  In an attempt to lessen the embarrassment, he took the menu, keeping his eyes glued to words he never read. “It’s Mayor Dewey...He told me they had to cut costs and well...surprise, surprise! He may have to close the community theatre.” Jamie shrugged. It wasn’t like he never expected something like this to happen. He just didn’t want to think about it. “I don’t know what to tell my parents...They were pretty proud, you know?”
