“I’m sure I’ll be fine either way. I haven’t really gotten in major trouble in a few years.” And that was always a good thing. “Is there anything else I should know about this town, other than it hypothetically being cursed?”

“Let’s see, besides basketball being almost everything to this town? There’s a lot of good people here,” he nodded. “Oh and killer food at Karen’s Cafe.” Jamie didn’t know much about the town anymore -- just the basics. He’s been away far too long.

“Still seems like a nice life to me,” she smiled at him. “I came to visit your mom but she isn’t here so I decided to come bug you.”

“Yeah,” he nodded, “she’s out shopping for dinner with Bella.” He groaned at the pounding in his head not going away. “What’d you need my mom for?” He asked curiously.

“Cause Lydia and I can’t seem to enjoy this place the way you guys did when you were our age.” Jude murmured. Watching the free throw sink, his eyes rolled but a small smile came about. “Lord knows the Scott legacy will be impossible for Davis and I to sink, but we’ll sure as hell give it a try.” He grabbed the ball, jogging back to the three line when he spun and shot his own fade-away. The ball sank easily in the net, and he turned raising a brow. “Beat that, old timer.”

“Why? You guys okay?” Jamie asked curiously, concerned for his family. “Here’s a little secret, Jude. The Scott legacy isn’t about being the best. For me, it wasn’t anyway. My dad taught me that it was okay to be the worst or the best, as long as I enjoy what I do.” Jamie smiled, figuring he should share his dad’s words of wisdom with his cousin. With a grin, Jamie grabbed the ball and stood at the three-point line. With one hand he covered his eyes and with the other her flicked the ball once again to hear it hit only the net.

He laughed, shrugging. “Oh, you know. I was left on Tattooine to be raised by my parents. And now I have to find my real mom to harness the battle between light and dark inside of me.” He explained with half truth and half sarcasm. “I have mommy issues that severely need to be settled and I’m interning with guidance at Tree Hill High.”

James wasn’t sure how to the other’s sarcastic humor. He cleared his throat before nodding. “I hope things work out but -- if you ever need anything,” he shrugged, “I don’t mind helping. Not that you’d need it...but still,” he nodded once more.

“Mmm,” Bella sighed into the kiss, “dinner and relaxing with you sounds wonderful,” she smiled, leaning her forehead against Jamie’s for a second. When she finally stepped away, she took his hand, “but you will have to lead the way my dear,” she couldn’t break the grin on her face, “show me around this little town of yours?”

Jamie smiled giving her one more quick peck on the lips before she backed away. “I’d love to but first my mom really wants to meet you,” he chuckled. “I’ve mentioned you to my parents before and my mom she is just dying until she can get to know you.” The boy laughed at how true his statement was. “We don’t have to now but that’s always an option, babe.”

“Well as one of those said friends, I would say that we are very very proud of you, Jamie. You went after something you love and look at all you have to show for it. I’m beyond proud of you and all that you’ve accomplished so far.” Jenny said with a smile, which widened when he heard that he was happy for her accomplishments as well. “Thank you, Jamie… Look at us; Actual functional members of society with things to actually contribute to the world. I’m proud of us.”

Jamie smiled proudly. “I’m proud of us, too.” The boy felt so guilty at how much he still admired the blonde. Especially more, now that his girlfriend were in town. Trying to shake the thoughts, Jamie cleared his throat. “So, any new guy in your life, Jen?” He asked stupidly. That kind of question was far from taking his mind off of the crush he had on her.

“Still old.” He teased. “It was more than a few beers.” Logan said, knowingly. “But really, you can always call me and we can drink together since you never would before.” He said, slight bitterness creeping into his voice unwillingly. 

Jamie breathed a deep sigh as he burried his face into the palm of his hands. Not only did he feel like he got hit by a train, he now felt like a hypocrite as well. “Logan, I’m sorry bro. Things just got...complicating.”

“So this is the life of a professional baseball player, huh? Sleeping all day?”

“No, not sleeping. Just -- relaxing,” he nodded. “What’re you doing here, anyway? Not that I’m complaining.”

“Damn you’ve gotten rude in your old age.” Logan muttered as he closed Jamie’s door behind him. “Get up asshole, I gotta talk to you.” He muttered, sitting in Jamie’s desk chair and taking a good look at the man in front of him, noticing all the signs of a hangover as he had had many himself. “Dude…were you drinking last night?” 

“I’m only three years older than you, ass.” He sat up on the edge of his bed as he rubbed his temples with his fingers. “What’s up?” He asked wincing at the pounding in his head. Breathing in a deep sigh, ready to talk to his cousin he then paused when asked about his night. “Uh -- maybe. Just a beer or two,” he lied straight through his teeth.

“Sorry big cousin I thought this was Lydia’s room still” Sarah says to her cousin,forgetting that he was back really “hung over much, Jamie?” she smiles questioning him. 

He nodded to reassure the girl it was okay. “Maybe -- but don’t go telling the rest of the house that,” he chuckled.

“Missing this place is a sign of insanity. Didn’t anyone ever tell you that?” Jude shot back, bouncing the ball a few more times before passing it off. “Come on. Let’s see that epic free throw at work, all star. Or are you too comfy with loading bases?”

“Maybe from Lydia and now from you,” he shrugged with a slight grin on his face. Immediately catching the ball within his hands, he laughed at the boy’s teasing. “Not that the bases is where I belong but I can still make a shot or two,” staring at the younger boy he lined his hand up with the hoop before flicking his wrist in the air only to hear the ball connect with nothing but net. “How ‘bout that huh?” He laughed. “Do I still got it or, what?”

Zander nodded, smiling. “It’s been pretty good so far. Haven’t gotten into any trouble, at least.”

“Around here, sometimes, I feel like it takes a lot to get into trouble,” he laughed. Even though Jamie did grow up where he found himself worrying if his dad or mom might die once or twice.

Rory perked his brow. “Rory. Trainer. People just call me… Well around here, they call me ‘that guy’.” He muttered. “But Rory’ll do.”

“Nice to meet ya, Rory.” He nodded before stuffing his hands into his pockets. “What brings you to town if it’s not for a significant other?”

“It’s a long story.” He dodged, not sire he wanted to tell this story again

“Sure,” he nodded, “but if you ever feel the need to tell it then I’m here.” Jamie looked over to the guy he might as well call his cousin and gave him a reassuring smile.

“Time to wake up! It’s almost 1, sleepyhead.”

“Only one?” Jamie sat up in his bed with his head in his hand. “What’re you doing over here so early?”

The other’s laugh relaxed Zander, glad he wasn’t the only one who found the family joke funny. “You’re fine. The bike. That’s–” he shrugged, the smile still on his face. “That’s it. I roam the country, passing through, and got stopped.”

“Ah. So you were just riding through til you got stuck here,” he nodded with a chuckle. “Yeah, Tree Hill isn’t the world’s first choice when they think of vacation, that’s for sure. But hopefully our home will treat you well.”
