“When loneliness is a constant state of being, it harkens back to a childhood wherein neglect and abandonment were the landscape of life.” ― Alexandra Katehakis
If ever there was a face for the definition of Murphy’s Law, it was Rory. Born to a mother who didn’t know how to raise him and a father he never knew, he was given up and sent into the arms of Foster Care. As one could imagine, those arms are less than forgiving but Rory always fought and never gave up. Words and wit were his first defense and on the rare occasions when those failed him, he relied on his feeble attempts at self defense.
But nonetheless, he fought. He fought like hell to keep his head above water. Although he grew up in hellish circumstances, anyone who got to know Rory could tell that he could pick up on everything and anything, with a keen eye for details. It was his brilliance and cleverness that kept him from falling through the cracks. It actually kept his head above water unlike most of his friends.
Teachers would love him even though he would scarcely speak more than a few words and would praise him to his foster parents. Unfortunately for him, teachers were steady. Foster parents were forever changing. While his intellect was Ivy League worthy, Rory’s affinity for trouble and mild psychological issues kept him moving from house to house.
Some houses were nice, and he’d hate them. Happy families never lasted, so he kept himself from staying there. Bad houses were those he’d never come home to. And so he kept going through the revolving door of homes and foster houses until he emancipated himself from the state at 17 years old. A nearly impossible feat, considering all of his issues, but this was one situation where his intelligence proved he could survive well on his own.
And so, with some money he’d earned and saved, his wily and witty ways, Rory found himself in Tree Hill. Rumor has it his birth mother made an appearance here in recent years. Many around the small town suspect he is here to find his birth mother. He knows he’s got family here besides his mother but he doesn’t know their names. The only thing he knows is his mother’s name.
Hard Working, Smart, Caring
Wounded, Bitter, Withdrawn
Rory suffers from PTSD and depression. It’s evident from the scars on his wrist to the way he can’t seem to let anyone close.
Rory has an eidetic memory. He can remember everything anyone tells him at any given time or moment and can recall facts from out of nowhere. Though he’s usually mum on conversing.
Rory gives great advice. No matter the situation, he’ll analyze it from every angle until he’s sure he’s got the best possible answer from his heart even if the person is a complete stranger.
Rory is aware that he’s got siblings in Tree Hill, he just has no idea who they are and the idea can literally keep him awake at night wondering if in passing he’s talked to one of his sisters. Even then, he’s scared to death to speak to them for fear of the fact that he’ll be rejected, or worse, they’ll think he’s insane like many before them.
Jenny and Alexis Jagielski: Rory knows he has siblings but has no idea who they are. They have no idea he even exists.
