Know Thyself
16 PERSONALITIES (MBTI)
On the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test, I got the ISFJ-A or Defender type of personality. The Defender personality type is seen as a person who is reliable, dedicated, practical, etc. which is exactly how I am. I agree with the results of the MBTI test because it is a clear reflection of how I perceive myself. The given scales by the MBTI test namely Mind (Extraverted vs. Introverted), Energy (Intuitive vs. Observant), Nature (Thinking vs. Feeling), Tactics (Judging vs. Prospecting), and Identity (Assertive vs. Turbulent) and the results of each are accurate figures based on how I think I am.
The recommended careers for ISFJ-A are ones that relate to becoming sensible helpers such as the careers: social worker, bookkeeper, medical secretary, executive assistant, dentist, elementary school teacher, librarian, franchise owner, customer service representative. Almost none of these recommended careers appealed to me simply because none of them are in line with my interests. If I were to choose one one of the recommended careers, I would choose franchise owner because it appeals to me. Anything under business-related jobs appeal to me because that is what I am most knowledgeable and comfortable in.
With the knowledge of my personality type, I will be able to know my strengths which I will be able to use to my advantage in handling technical or critical problems. Knowing my strength would allow me to realize what I aspect I am most effective in. This way, I will be able to produce work with high quality in the most efficient and effective way as possible. On the other hand, I will also know my weaknesses. Knowing my weaknesses is also an advantage because I will be able to know the specific aspects or traits I need to work on. Working on converting my weaknesses into strengths or opportunities will help me become a better person and hopefully succeed in my endeavors. In conclusion, this will help me become a successful global business leader as it will affect the way I will handle the company I will work for from the technical to the human skills.
BIG 5 PERSONALITY TEST
On the Big 5 Personality Test, the score percentile I got for Extroversion is 16 which is low. On the MBTI Test, the percentage ratio of my Extroversion and Introversion is 33:67. Based on the two (2) tests, both analyzed me to be an introverted person rather than being an extroverted person which I definitely agree on. The results are in line with my actions which are typically what an introverted person would do. In general, I like to keep to myself and I have difficulty with being around strangers.
Based on each trait, I would describe myself as the following:
Extroversion
The score percentile I received for Extroversion is 16 which is ranked as low. This score can be interpreted that I am a person that keeps to herself. I am not an outgoing person and I am more comfortable if I work by myself, not with other people. This means that I am an introverted person.
Emotional Stability
The score percentile I received for Emotional Stability is 81 which is ranked as high. This personality pertains to a person’s ability to remain stable and balanced. Since I received a high score, this means that I react less emotionally and I am generally calm in nature. My emotions are always stable, calm, and I do not repress any negative feelings towards anything or anyone.
Agreeableness
The score percentile I received for Agreeableness is 67 which is ranked as high. This means that am a friendly towards my peers or the people I encounter, this also shows that I get along well with other people. I am also an optimistic person who sees the positive side of events as much as possible.
Conscientiousness
The score percentile I received for Conscientiousness is 97 which is ranked as high. This is the highest personality trait I ranked in which means that I have a high level of self-discipline. I like everything to be planned out in detail before acting upon it, which also means that anything spontaneous is something I dread. I am careful and diligent will all my tasks and I make sure that everything I do is done properly.
Intellect/Imagination
The score percentile I received for Intellect/Imagination is 14 which is ranked as low. This is the lowest personality trait I ranked in which means that I am a close-minded person. It will be hard to persuade me into trying something new or foreign to me because I am already used to the routine I set for myself.
The results of the MBTI and Big 5 Personality Traits test are consistent. Based on the MBTI, I am seen as a person who is introverted, reliable, dedicated, and practical which are also seen in the results of my Big 5 Personality Traits results. Based on the Big 5 Personality Traits results, I am introverted, calm, detail-oriented, careful, and diligent. No discrepancies have been seen in my results of both personality tests.
The Big 5 Personality Traits test gave me additional insight in addition to those of what I discovered in my MBTI results. If the MBTI gave me an idea of what type of person I am, whereas the Big 5 Personality Traits test made me realize more about the specifics regarding my different personalities, such as being more close-minded, self disciplined, etc. as stated above. In addition, the personality levels of the Big 5 Personality Traits test is easier to analyze or understand compared to the MBTI.
RIASEC PROFILE
The top three (3) characteristics I scored high in are Social, Conventional, and Enterprising. Social being the lowest, and Enterprising being the highest. This means that I like working with other people to some extent rather than operating machines or objects. I also like following a set of rules, procedures, or routines I set for myself. I also work best with information and details rather than working with abstract ideas. In addition, I am also inclined to doing business projects and taking action as soon as possible to not waste time. These results are consistent with what I visualize myself to be.
The top three (3) jobs fitting for me based on the results of the O*Net profiler are Accountant, Advertising & Promotions Manager, and Advertising Sales Agents. These jobs interest me because they are under the field of business, which is related to the course I am currently taking up. Based on my judgement, I am most fitting for the job of Advertising & Promotions Manager because I already have the basic knowledge or fundamentals needed for this position. I am currently taking up BS Marketing Management which means that this job is best suited for me.
Yes, I will have a fulfilling career if I take one of the suggested jobs on my profile. Specifically those that interest me only. If I choose one of the jobs within my expertise, then I will most likely succeed in it. Being interested in my choice of work means that I will have the personal driving force to be motivated to work everyday. This would mean that I am satisfied with the career I am pursuing and that I would strive to succeed until I eventually reach my goal and become content and comfortable with the lifestyle I have.
My level of introversion is in line with my RIASEC profile because the top two (2) characteristics namely Enterprising and Conventional are ones that I see myself as. Even though I am introverted, I take pride in persuading and leading people especially if the task to be done is within my forte. This goes to show that even if I score low as an extroverted person, a part of me still has a few traits that an extroverted person has but is simply overpowered by the characteristics an introverted person possesses.
SELFSTIR 360 ASSESSMENT
Upon answering the Work and Friend type of surveys, I realized how big of an impact I am able to make towards my co-workers and friends. Upon generating my results for both surveys, I was surprised to see that I scored higher than 3 in all the attributes I selected. Generally, the people who rated me for both surveys gave me a rating higher than what I gave myself. This shows how low I think of myself, while my raters see the potential I fail to see.
For the Work survey, my greatest strengths are Accountability-Responsibility and Engagement rated at an average of 3.7 out of 4. On the other hand, my greatest weaknesses are Communication and Achievement rated at an average of 3.6 out of 4. These traits did not surprise me because I am already aware of these. I have always seen as someone who is responsible for her work and takes full accountability for it especially if I committed an error. I also am always engaged with the work given to me, meaning I always contribute to the work and do what is asked of me. Furthermore, I am also aware that I am lacking in communicating with my peers properly as it is difficult for me to work with people, especially if we do not have the same work ethic. I sometimes also become demotivated to do my work especially if I am physically unfit to do so.
For the Friend survey, my greatest strength is Consultative Decision Making at an average rate of 3.7 out of 4. On the other hand, my greatest weakness is Authenticity with an average rate of 3.3 out of 4. These traits do not surprise because such as the results from the Work survey, I already am aware of these. I agree that I openly ask for consultation to trusted peers mainly because I want to make sure that what I am doing is correct. An example of this is myself actively asking my professor questions during consultations regarding a project. As for Authenticity, I am aware that I sometimes fall back in this factor because there are times wherein I fail to do what I have promised my peers I will do. However, I completely own up to my faults and find a way to make it up to the person I have wronged.
Generally, the six (6) people who I asked to rate me mostly gave a rating that is higher than my own rating for the respective characteristic. I am surprised to learn about this because I was not aware that I was able to give a strong impression to them. Based on their rating, I realized how different my external image I show is different from how I see myself. I think too low of myself when in reality I actually have the capability to excel in the factors rated in the survey.
Conducting a 360 assessment in the workplace is important because employees are given feedback by their co-employees and not only from their supervisors, therefore more insights can be gained. Because of this, the results will be more balanced when it comes to their skills and behaviors which is more fair and accurate for the employees. The purpose of the assessment is for the employee to gain self-awareness by knowing more about their strengths and areas they need to improve in. They are also more aware of how their peers and other people in the organization perceive them, including their behaviors they never noticed.
The 360 assessment helps in producing effective leaders. The assessment is answered by various sources such as supervisors, co-workers, peers, etc. which makes the results more complex as it is more well-rounded from the different perspectives of the people assessing the person. These people are also given the chance to help the leader understand more about their personal strengths and weaknesses. This is beneficial to the leader because there may be some traits that they are unaware of. Furthermore, given the broad feedback from the assessment, leaders can use this information to further develop their skills and behaviors. This can be achieved by seeking training from other workshops or undergoing various development programs to grow more as a leader.
