the night hound || a poem
There’s a whisper in the quiet air And the moon that comes out bare, There’s rain water on every pavement turn And a star-filled sky that glows at dawn. There’s a pretty voice that sings all night long, And a girl with her head inside a cloud, There’s a bell, every year that rings, But her voice never shakes, her song never dims. There’s a shadow of a naked tree in fall, And a wolf that howls to the moon all night long, As it hunts for its prey in the dark night, steady, He never looks through the fog. There’s words causing civil wars in the city, I’m looking at the battles that I’ve won, There’s never really time to be weary for me, I’d rather run on my bare feet. And the words slip through, The stories that they tell Their babies sleep soundly The nighmares never leave. When the lights go out, The screaming forms a nice song, The little girls cry out, Here comes the night hound.
There’s a flicker in the dark alley way, And a road long enough to be the sky, There’s a pathway they made for the lady to see, And a hungry hound waiting on its feet. There’s water in the pool that you dig And the bees come to take little sips, Its clear that we never want to move anymore, We’d rather sit in the moats. And the birds rush through, Their frightened squeaks seem pretty And the snow in her pail glows, And now shes on her knees And she’s begging for love. The words seem to cut through The metal of her pale skin And now she only shouts out, Here comes the night hound.
I’ve been sitting on my rocking chair still, My eyes stay closed all night long, There are words in my head that sing Baby, here comes the night hound.
