Robert didn't immediately move toward the bed. He felt strangely exposed, caught in the threshold of a space he had only ever occupied in chaotic, fleeting bursts. There was no urgency here, no adrenaline, no late-night heat pushing them together—just the quiet, heavy reality of a shared bedroom.
Robert slid his pants down, leaving the discarded clothing in a pile on the floor.
He stood there for a beat at the edge of the mattress in his t-shirt and boxers, his hands hovering uselessly at his sides. He had offered to stay, invited himself into Chad's space and Chad had happily opened the door. But this—stepping into a bed just to sleep, to exist together in the quiet stretch of the night without even a rush of chaos to hide behind—was entirely new territory.
Chad didn't tease or make a snarky comment about Robert’s obvious hesitation. He just lifted the bedsheet in an unhurried, quiet invitation.
Swallowing past the small knot in his throat, Robert climbed in.
The moment Robert settled onto the mattress, Chad slid behind him. He slung a heavy, warm arm over Robert’s waist, dragging him back until Robert’s back was pressed flush against his chest. There was no frantic fumbling, no desperate hands in the dark. Just Chad burying his face into the warm crook of Robert’s shoulder, letting out a long exhale of pure relief.
