Ground Floor Direct Sales/Affiliate Companies for Busy Moms

Many moms want to stay at home with their kids or make some money on the side. As mentioned in a previous post, ground floor opportunities are great because there’s room for growth. However, before joining, do your own research and make sure that the product is something you like. I asked in a direct sales group, “What are some ground floor companies and how is it a good fit for busy moms?”

 For me the reasons I stay with my company is it's recession proof, trend proof (I've seen many "it" companies over the years and they do amazing at first but fizzle after a while, it's been around for 25 years and our corporate team is the most well put together team I've seen so I know we aren't going anywhere but up, our training is unmatched from what I have seen out there (our CEO has a mission to not only teach us to be good business women but to save money to get out of debt and be able to retire comfortably), the products truly do sell themselves so you really don't need a sales background, and for moms I love that because we are party plan it allows us to get out of the house to do parties and spend a few hours with people over 3 feet tall. Laughing and educating while getting paid is the ultimate for me. And of course like I mentioned the comp plan is very lucrative.

Also because of the nature of the products they tend to help moms feel better about themselves and helps improve their relationships as well.

How to choose a ground floor direct sales/affiliate company

It seems like there is a new direct sales/affiliate company starting up everyday. With so many options available, it’s hard to choose. Ground floor opportunities are great because there is a lot of room for growth. However, some people maybe skeptical about joining a new company because it is so new. I spoke to Guyanne L., a direct sales startup consultant, about this topic. Here is what she had to say: 

“The most important things I personally look at when considering an opportunity are 1) financial stability and long-term sustainability of the business model; 2) a broad product line that appeals to a wide range of people (I steer clear of niche products unless they have a patent on something that only they can sell); 3) most importantly an EXISTING duplicatable system that makes recruiting simple and easy - preferably with a team that does the heavy lifting for me so all I have to do is share the opportunity rather than sell it. “

Disclaimer: I’m writing this based on my own experience and research. Consult your pediatrician.

My baby has just turned 4 months and I have decided to start her on rice cereal until 6 months.Then introduce oatmeal cereal, veggies and fruit. The current recommendation is to start solids at 6 months (American Academy of Pediatrics). It is also suggested that you wait 3-4 days before introducing a new food.

When starting solids, you don’t need a lot of stuff. Most of the things you need, can be found at Dollar Tree (DT). I got a pack of food storage snack bowls (DT), spoons (DT), one 6 pack of disposable bibs (Optional) (DT), vinyl feeding bib w/ pocket (Tuesday Morning. 2-Pack $4.99), and Gerber Organic Rice Cereal (Kroger. I got it on markdown. It was not expired and I used a coupon).

So, that’s really all you need. Also, coupons are your best friend. Even if your baby is not quite ready for solid foods, there’s nothing wrong with getting ready early. Infant food has a long shelf life.

**Mom Tip: Infant cereal has to be used within 30 days. Write the day you opened it or the day you need to toss it on the cereal with a Sharpie.

One challenge to being a breastfeeding mom is....

Finding a job that will allow me to pump. This week, I called to follow-up on some jobs. The conversation would start off good. Then once I mention that I’m breastfeeding, they would say: “I don’t think that this position is a good fit right now..” It’s really frustrating. I was able to find a job as an as-needed merchandiser. I understand why moms who have to return to work are more likely to choose formula. If it wasn’t for my fiance, I would be one of those moms. I feel that it’s ridiculous that jobs aren’t willing to make accommodations for breastfeeding moms. It doesn’t take much. Fortunately, there are alternatives to working a 9-5 brick and mortar job.

#2: Direct Sales: There are sooo many companies out there. Find a company that sells a product that you are passionate about.

#3: Rideshare or be a Delivery Driver: Uber, Lyft, Postmates, UberEats, DoorDash, etc.
