Thank You
The internet is full of rants. Help tip the balance: today, simply be thankful for something (or someone).
I am thankful for being able to work and have loving and caring family and friends! Author/blogger note: To anyone who reads my post, thank you for your support. My posts will be sporadic and whenever time allows me to post.
If You Need Me Call Me No Matter Where You Are
Song Title: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell)
If I have a friend in need or family in need, I would do whatever I can to help them by phone or by instant message.
Friends and family are important. They are who are there for you when you need them the most especially when you are experiencing a difficult time in your life. This was especially true when after my grandmother’s death nearly two decades ago. The same thing happened again when my father passed away, friends and family had helped a great deal.
Sink or swim
Tell us about a time when you were left on your own, to fend for yourself in an overwhelming situation — on the job, at home, at school. What was the outcome?
I have actually not one but two times where I had to fend for myself. Once was at work and the other was at college. The first time was when my supervisor was out sick. An editor an magazine came in and presented a problem. His graphic designer had made an error when designing an ad. We worked it out to me sending him our current logo to so that he could get to his graphic designer to place in the magazine. This was the first time I really had to make a decision on the spot at work. The other time was while in college, the leader for a class group project didn’t show up and I jumped in and took over as the leader. It turned out really well as I was able to communicate with the group members and then communicate afterward to get the project done.

A mystery wrapped in an enigma
Topic: Tell us something most people probably don’t know about you.
One thing most people do not know about me is that I collect autographs. I have been collecting autographs for several years now. It first started when I wrote to Patricia Richardson from the show Home Improvement. I wrote to her not expecting anything at all and lo and behold she responded. From that time on I was hooked. I continued on. Between 1998 and 2003 I did not have much luck and more returned mail. So I stopped for a while to focus on schoolwork. Then in 2003, I found out that my favorite then ABC7-KGO News anchor Carolyn Johnson was going to be at the library for a special segment. I got to meet her and got her autograph in person! It made so happy! After that, I didn’t start collecting autographs until I was in my third year of college. The first autograph then was from Vanna White, which took only about a week or so for me to receive it! From there it grew to include to Jennifer Garner, Catherine Hicks, Bea Arthur, Laila Ali, Nancy Lee Grahn Kristina Wagner, Betty White, Diedre Hall, Diane Neal, Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Stana Katic, Kathryn Erbe, Sela Ward, Gary Sinise, Dick Van Dyke, Derek Hough, Joe Mantegna, and last but least, the wonderful and magnificent Valerie Harper.
Far from home
Topic: Tell us about the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home.
The first furthest was to Sao Paulo, Brazil. It was right after I finished my junior year in high school. That trip was 6,472 miles (one way). There are actually more than once when I traveled far from home. The other places I have traveled to (distance from far away to not so far away) are Taipei (6,440 miles), Shanghai (6,135 miles), New York (2,964 miles), Provo (806 miles), Portland, OR (486 miles), and finally Riverside, CA (428 miles). That is a lot of miles traveled!
A friend in need...is a friend indeed!
I am grateful for friends who have helped me through my tough time. Back in college shortly after the death of my maternal grandmother, I was thrown off my balance, figuratively speaking. It seemed like for many years I was also always in denial, emotional and in mourning. It was finally an aunt I am close with along with several friends who helped pull me out of the hole I had fallen into.
Free to be me
Topic: What’s the character trait you admire the most about yourself?
The character trait I most admire about myself is patience. They say patience is a virtue, I totally agree. There are people that are super patient and others who are not. Okay, I have an admission to make I used to be impatient. I guess after getting into writing and doing some editing along the way, I learned to be more patient. So, that is the one thing I most admire about myself.
A bird, a plane, you!
Topic: You get to choose one superpower. Pick one of these, and explain your choice: the ability to speak and understand any language, the ability to travel through time, or the ability to make any two people agree with each other.
One superpower I would choose is to be able to speak and understand any language. I choose this because of one member in my family who can speak and understand seven languages. You read right, seven! For me, there are two languages I want to be able to speak and understand, Portuguese and Spanish. Some of the other languages are Swedish, Danish, Italian, Greek, oh there are so many to choose from!
When you're a kid, you lay in the grass and watch the clouds going over, and you literally don't have a thought in your mind. It's purely meditation, and we lose that.
