“People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”
-Salma Hayek
Some 83 percent of Black voters are Democrats or lean Democratic, according to the Pew Research Center. Because of this, Trump has demanded Republican officials make it harder for African Americans to vote and elect candidates of their choosing.
“When we begin to live from within outward, in touch with the power of the erotic within ourselves, and allowing that power to inform and illuminate our actions upon the world around us, then we begin to be responsible to ourselves in the deepest sense. For as we begin to recognize our deepest feelings, we begin to give up, of necessity, being satisfied with suffering and self-negation, and with the numbness which so often seems like their only alternative in our society. Our acts against oppression become integral with self, motivated and empowered from within.”
Audre Lorde
“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people.”

Joe Negri Quartet - LIVE @ Foster's ft. Danny Conn
nvlandbutcher
Joe Negri a guitarist, perhaps best known beyond Pittsburgh for as a character on the Mister Roger's Neighborhood, passed away on Saturday. He was just days shy of 100.
He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (Carnegie Tech). Joe Negri loved Jazz. He taught guitar at the University of Pittsburgh for more than 30 years and taught at Duquesne University for over 40.
Fosters was a music venue in the Holiday Inn in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. I love that that the Youtube poster found a burned CD of The Joe Negri Quartet in his attic. I'm not sure of the name of the song and suspect the performance is from the late 1960s or early 1970s.
What a great difference Joe Negri made to the community here.
“Centrist politicians who attempt to compromise with fascism inevitably end up helping fascists and boosting fascism. If you attempt to meet fascists halfway, you are pushing the country towards fascism—and betraying your allies and marginalized people in the bargain.”

The Everly Brothers - All I Have to Do is Dream (1958)
“In our endeavor to understand reality we are somewhat like a man trying to understand the mechanism of a closed watch. He sees the face and the moving hands, even hears its ticking, but he has no way of opening the case. If he is ingenious he may form some picture of a mechanism which could be responsible for all the things he observes, but he may never be quite sure his picture is the only one which could explain his observations. He will never be able to compare his picture with the real mechanism and he cannot even imagine the possibility or the meaning of such a comparison.”
— Albert Einstein
"Bassist of the band Lo'Jo until 2016, Kham Meslien has performed on all continents, from the big stages of the world's cities to the Australian and American deserts. He also plays in the trio Sweet Back and has collaborated, on stage or in the studio, with many international musicians: Robert Plant, Archie Shepp, Robert Wyatt and Justin Adams. With this solo double bass project, Kham Meslien embarks on a new adventure, introspective and shared." (from youtube)
