5 minute doodle but i thought tumblr would appreciate my drarry
I still don't know my purpose on this planet but I do love reading fanfiction.
Any TVL cast member being interviewed: yeah so when I first read the script I wanted to murder Rolin with my bare hands :) haha yeah he butchered my character so badly that I threw my laptop across the room :) aha and then I yelled at him for two hours which only resulted in minor tweaks to the script :) yeah I was so shocked and confused :) and he comes up with scenes that don’t make any sense in-universe. :) and I worry for the future of this tv show :) but it’s alright as long as you think about how [5 min in depth analysis of details that the cast member has come up themselves to justify the season despite these justifications not being evident in the actual show at all] aha :)

he's so
with few exceptions we have only seen black characters graphically get brutalized. they had closeups of louis’s body and face after lestat tried to murder him showing the extent of what was done, we saw just how burned and disfigured he was after her suicide attempt, claudia’s death is one of the most graphic i’ve seen on any tv show, we got closeups of their ankles slashed and shots of louis being kicked in the head and claudia being shoved into a box of live rats by the coven members. the majority of louis’s scenes in episode 7 were of his decapitated head on a pike, forced to look at his body as it flailed, begging to die, forced to apologize in something so close to a saw trap that it was bordering on copyright infringement while being painted as cruel and deserving of the abuse and then branded by armand.
we didn’t see any shots of lestat’s head in the bowling bag. we saw him burn, but it was portrayed as comical. we did not see bruce as he died, we did not see lestat get torn up by the wolves, we did not watch nicki die. in the majority of the scenes where a white character is injured, the action is cut away, out of frame, out of focus, mostly implied.
the extent of what we saw of the brutality of black characters now feels almost fetishistic. at the end of episode 105, lestat is floating in the air looking dreamy and louis is beaten to a pulp on the ground; episode 207, lestat is put together in a suit with his hair done and louis and claudia have been severely beaten. like, after this season, the rest of the show just looks weird.
he didnt need to be chosen, he needed to be nurtured
how the world feels when you realize you don’t have to accept tvl as canon
You know it's a Gothic Horror show, and you're supposed to feel uncomfortable, right? I do. But do you? Do you, Rolin, and Hannah understand that? Because from where I stand, only the Black characters seem to be trapped in a horror story. The others appear to be in a completely different genre.
The issue isn't that viewers like myself don't want to feel uncomfortable. The issue is that, in this Gothic Horror show, Black characters disproportionately bear the brunt of the violence.
Take this season finale as an example.
At the end of Episode 6, two characters are beheaded. Yet in Episode 7, we are shown the severed head and mutilated body of the black character in explicit details, while the white character's mutilated body is shown only briefly and out of focus, and his severed head is hidden from us.
Louis's arc is presented as a parallel to Lestat's. Both characters are placed in situations where they must confront people they have wronged, or at least people the narrative insists they have wronged, as well as their pasts, relationships, and mistakes. (Personally, I don't believe Louis owes Armand anything, but the narrative clearly wants the audience to think otherwise.🙄🙄🙄)
Yet the way these parallel journeys are depicted are drastically different.
tvl episode 7 spoilers:
he would not fucking say that
he would not fucking do that
we did not need to see that
he would not fucking say that
he would not fucking do that
he did not fucking do that
repeat
tvl fails so badly narratively because after two seasons of exploring themes of memory and trauma and grief and four years of discussing said things we are suddenly dropped somewhere with 5 nonsensical framing devices all stacked on top of each other, actions with no real consequences that are given no context, and two second clips of the actual events of the book it’s pretending to adapt. i feel bad for everyone who read tvl between seasons. i feel bad in general.
the season started in media res while also being 90% exposition, relying on shock humor, already dated references to current-ish events, and a gag at the end of every episode that winds up being immensely inconsequential. they do so little with the characters. and i do not care if this is how lestat sees people. if i wanted an un-interrogated narrative, i would read an anne rice book.
audibly said "oh, baby" while watching the episode. im sick to my stomach
why does assad have more screentime as fake rashid in s1 than as armand in s3
charlie glaring off into space at the assembly after neil killed himself will forever haunt me
i don’t know if my beloved @theoryofwhatnow ever posted this on here so i’m gonna share it.
pardon the quality - i did try to enhance it, but it made the audio go janky so just left as is.
LIKE MINDS DELETED SCENE:
the professor saying "seems like we've got some healthy competition for you this year, mr. forbes" while handing him a paper with 96% on it.
then he walks over to nigel and says "excellent work, mr. colbie" and he gets 98%... THE BUZZ?!?!??
