Aside from arashi no yoru ni’s mcs being super gay, their design are SOOOO fucking good.

I love how Mei is a very friend-shaped goat, just so round, and soft, and appealing. While Gabu is lanky and dark, with a maybe slightly too long snout, and he’s weirdly skinny for what you’d think of for a wolf. Gabu almost looks more like an Aesop’s fables type fox, combined with how he sometimes goes on two legs, hobbling around with more ease than it looks like he should, he’s kind’ve the opposite of soft and appealing.

Mei & Gabu’s designs just contrast so well.

And then they did FUCKING THIS!

Almost NOTHING from the original amazing designs remain. This is literal bottom of the used box at GameStop, fucking GameStop because whoever bought this went to the closest store that’d take it. This is Dinosaur Train with no soul.

There is at least some tiny attempt to keep the contrast in the designs, Mei’s eyes are wider and more buttonis, with a more ‘fairytale storybook’ aesthetic, and honestly his design is less egregious to me.

With Gabu, there is none of that (intentional) unease, it’s just sanitized slop. Gabu, and even Mei a little bit, was DIRTY and musky-looking, like a wild animal who’s never taken an actual bath.

One of these is the best animations to come from the entire continent of Asia, and the other is soulless, dead, fucking garbage!
