Ryoji Ikeda’s new trilogy data-verse, commissioned by Audemars Piguet, is an audiovisual symphonic suite that attempts to encompass the tiniest (elementary particles) to the greatest (Universe) scale in Nature. data-verse is the ultimate chapter of Ikeda’s audiovisual series that first began in 2000, which focuses on his own data-driven research and aesthetics. Through his mathematical composition and aesthetics, massive scientific data set will be processed, transcribed, converted, transformed, de/re/meta-constructed and orchestrated to visualize and sonify the different dimensions that co-exist in our world between the visible and the invisible. data-verse will eventually embody the “universe of data” by the “data of universe”.

Featuring a completely remixed soundtrack with better quality sources, and extended past the original's 2007 end point to take us right up to present day. Higher quality videos have been sourced, however if you have higher quality versions it would be great to hear from you!

Rosetta’s lander Philae wakes up from hibernation
Rosetta’s lander Philae has woken up after seven months in hibernation on the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
The signals were received at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt at 22:28 CEST on 13 June. More than 300 data packets have been analysed by the teams at the Lander Control Center at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
“Philae is doing very well: It has an operating temperature of -35ºC and has 24 Watts available,” explains DLR Philae Project Manager Dr. Stephan Ulamec. “The lander is ready for operations.”
For 85 seconds Philae “spoke” with its team on ground, via Rosetta, in the first contact since going into hibernation in November.
When analysing the status data it became clear that Philae also must have been awake earlier: “We have also received historical data – so far, however, the lander had not been able to contact us earlier.”
Now the scientists are waiting for the next contact. There are still more than 8000 data packets in Philae’s mass memory which will give the DLR team information on what happened to the lander in the past few days on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Philae shut down on 15 November 2014 at 1:15 CET after being in operation on the comet for about 60 hours. Since 12 March 2015 the communication unit on orbiter Rosetta was turned on to listen out for the lander.
New personal project - recreating the circa 1980s Village Roadshow logo animation, with the CGI look and rendering of their more recent logos. Also includes a remastered stereo soundtrack of the original.

A remake of Village Roadshow's original circa 1980s logo, using the two subsequent era's logos (1992 and 1998) as design references. Or basically "What if Village Roadshow Films created that logo now instead of 25 years ago..."
The original soundtrack was restored from a low quality VHS recording. Noise reduction, distortion recovery, frequency enhancement, remixed and remastered in full stereo.
Animated in Cinema 4D via Cineware and AfterEfffects. Sound post in Adobe Audition. Final edit in Adobe Premiere.

Developed for a project that subsequently never went ahead, this simple shot was actually created completely in-camera, using a whole bunch of incense, some carefully positioned lights, and a pre-programmed lighting cue played out of QLAB and QLC+ that simulated the explosion. This was even just filmed in the front room of a house! The trick that sells it is the carefully programmed 'flickering' of multiple light sources for the explosion, as well as the smoke creating a sense of depth to the 'explosion', which is actually contained in about a one metre area. Of course, the amount of work the sound design does to make the image look better is easy to overlook - as sound design often does.
