               — “Kai, wait!” Sara yelled at her puppy as she chased after him, proving it to be a terrible idea to set the dog loose on the sand, to enjoy some downtime at the beach near her house. Leash in hand, she sprinted until she was next to Kai, who had stopped by someone’s feet and was sniffing them. “I apologize…” She smiled gently while crouching down to fasten the leash on Kai’s collar. “There was a loud noise a couple of miles back and he just… stormed off.” Sara then let out a light sigh as she raised one hand to cast a shadow over her eyes, shielding them from the sun. “I hope he didn’t bother you?”

jasmine was collecting seashells when she noticed the visit of something that did not look like a sea creature. she tried to contain her squeals so she would not scare the small dog away before she even got to scratch their ears. she was standing straight, carefully storing the shells in her tote bag as the animal decided to stick around for a few more moments. she was about to look at the surroundings when she heard someone speak. “i, too, run away when the seagulls get a little too loud and scary, so i totally get it!” she wiggled her feet in the sand and watched the puppy’s reaction with a smile that reached each side of her face. “come on, how could a furry angel like this little buddy bother someone?” she brushed the air, chuckling softly. “in fact, he made my day even better!” her tone of voice sounded reassuring. she reached down again to pet his head. “i assume it’s his first encounter with the beach? soon enough he’ll be chasing waves, i’m sure of it!”

The roar of Maddie’s motorbike riding into the quieter neighbourhood definitely draws some stares, but true to her nature, she hardly pays them any mind as she kills the engine. There was probably more reason for Maddie to draw some stares as she removes her helmet. What she was wearing wasn’t exactly your typical motorbike fashion. In fact, it didn’t look like something that she would have worn on a regular day at all. It was the colour and the print (mauve and smaller white flowers respectfully) that signalled to anyone that knew her intimately enough that this was definitely something she never wore. The leather jacket and sneakers at the very least made it look more like her, but any onlookers wouldn’t have known the difference as she strode up towards the house where Jasmine’s birthday party was being held. 

“Guess who,” Maddie all but calls as soon as she’s near enough to the brunette who’s flittering around the yard like she suspected she would be.

as per usual, the sounds of a roaring engine triggered roxelana into talking about the first time she watched the grease movies, with all the leather jackets and big cars, and motorcycles. jasmine barely paid attention to what her mother was saying, something about defending the sequel despite all the terrible reviews, when she noticed that the engine suddenly stopped. it could only mean two things: either someone lost their way and spotted the balloons so they thought they could join the party, or maddie lost her way and wanted to join the party too. she was pleasantly surprised to note it was the second option.

in the hopes of cutting her mom’s story, she pointed towards the bike, that did not clash as much as it normally did with the colourful surroundings. minnie could not hold her excitement, visibly pouting until her mother decided to speak to other guests. in a blink of an eye, the brunette was throwing herself in her friends’ arms. “maddie!” she called out, taking her voice down when she realized she basically yelled in her ears. “before i tell you how happy i am to see you, you need to tell me...” she nodded in the direction of the adorable helmet left on the seat of the bike. “what is that? are you okay? do you have a fever? did you get hit by a rainbow?!”

JAS: Well, it was 20$ for you guys, but not for me! Silly you, thinking I wouldn't get the finest things for my friends.

JAS: If you want to trade or if you want anything else at all just tell me.

JAS: Fine! I'll trade cupcakes, a year worth of free two scoops cones, the 4 Pokémon cards I have and next time I see you struggle getting up on the hill I'll carry your bike. Do we have a deal?

What are your hopes for the future?

“My hopes are not that high for the future! I mean, look at where I’m at today? I have a good job, I have good friends and I didn’t kill any plants for the last month. I’m not asking the universe for much... Just a bunch of golden retrievers puppies, a new house that I can fill with even more mismatched and colourful furniture, a tree that grows only yellow, green and orange gummy bears and someone to hug and say good night when the moon and stars shine bright in the sky. Okay fine, I set my hopes up way too high and I will probably end up disappointed. Bu future is a big word, I mean, a long word in terms of length. I don’t want all of this tomorrow, just... One day. Except for the candy tree, that one can pop in my backyard in the next five minutes and I’ll be really happy!”

What is a dream you’ve let go of?

“Apparently, nutcrackers don’t turn into princes that will take you out to dance in a sparkly pink dress! I’ve bought so many of them every year and even if I watch Toy Story to try and inspire the one of these decorations to turn into a prince, it doesn’t seem to work. I tried all the possible options! The traditional ones, the ones with weird beards, the ones that play instruments and are covered in glitter, still nothing. After thirty-years, I think it’s time to give up on that dream... Oh, and having a normal family, but that’s not as much fun as becoming the Sugarplum Fairy!”

If you could change anything about yourself, would you? If so, what and why?

“If I could be Elastigirl and stretch to reach the top shelf, that would be really cool! I always leave the highest shelf empty, my legendary clumsiness attracts too many disasters for me to climb up on a chair to get whatever it is that I’m searching for, which always happens to be something fragile.”

“I’d also like to get some function that allows me to say no. That would be fun! If we can genetically modify strawberries to be neon red and bigger than the palm of my hand, I think giving my brain the ability to say this word is not too much to ask!”

What is a relationship deal breaker for you?

“Cheating, lying and eating raisins. If you lie about the fact you cheated and I recognize the scent of oatmeal raisin cookies on your breath, I’ll put your stuff into a bag and push it downstairs I Love It by Icona Pop style.”

Describe your ideal life partner.

“Cute haircut, nice butt with great surfing tricks who enjoys getting it (on fire)... Basically, David from Lilo and Stitch is my one true love, he just doesn’t know it yet!”

“I’m kidding! Well, I mean, kind of. Anyone who has a sweet tooth, is funny and has enough muscle strength to open my jar of strawberry jam in the morning is my ideal life partner. Bonus points if they want to adopt old dogs to give them all the hugs and ear scratches they deserve and build sandcastles in the sunset. The bar is so low, all I ask is for someone to stick around. Through thick and thin, you know? Even if they prefer caramel to chocolate, I'll love them to infinity and beyond.”

“Anything Britney related, I’m down for it! I can and I will sing Toxic shirtless on tabletops after one sip of sangria and nothing can stop me. In all honesty, though, nothing beats I Am A Girl Like You. Barbie’s got the best bops and it’s time we, as a society, acknowledge it!”

How decisive or indecisive are you?

“It depends who you ask! I try to make good and quick decisions for my employees so they might tell you I’m very decisive. Most neighbours will agree with that, since I always decide to help them out with their gardens or by taking their grocery bags inside! My mom might list you all of the times we were stuck in different stores because I could not choose between two dresses or dolls or stuffed animals or cereals until she gave in and bought the two options so we could get home before it was dark outside. And that random driver earlier today who got very confused when I stopped halfway through the street only to come back to my initial point because I didn’t feel like crossing the street anymore could agree with Mama... Fine, I can’t decide if I’m decisive or indecisive. I think you got your answer.”

What's your favorite ice cream topping?

“Finally, a question I am qualified to answer! It truly depends on what kind of ice cream you’re having, although rainbow sprinkles are always a good option! The ultimate combo is a vanilla bean ice cream sundae with crushed oreo pieces and warm fudge, it’s very important that it is warm so it does not melt too quickly, with a dash of chocolate sprinkles. And please, none of those weird cherries. Who likes them, genuinely? Just add an extra oreo on top for decoration! It tastes like a very fancy McFlurry, except it’s not all blended and not made with soft serve, meaning the ice cream machine being broken is never an excuse!”

JAS: I miss you always this is called FRIENDSHIP or this is called pathetic, but i prefer the first option

JAS: I can make more for the kids!!!! Or I could visit one time and we could have a crafting session! It requires hot glue, but I'm sure we could manage to make sure we don't forget to unplug the glue gun and burn the school down.

JAS: In the imaginary book of the gift-exchange-that-is-not-really-a-gift-exchange, there is a rule that says you keep your present and find a way for it to bring you joy, but there's an asterisk that leads to something written in tiny font that mentions that if the birthday girl was sad not to get with the easy bake oven, you can switch!
