The boy stared down at the little creature for a moment before crouching down to interact a little with the pokemon. After a while, he looked up at the woman and smiled a bit. “..Thank you, aunty.” He spoke.

      ‘ Hn. ’ She flicked her hair. It was just an ordinary pokemon. Anyone could have caught one in Kanto. They were tame enough for any beginning trainer to have.

He tilted his head to the side, pondering for a moment. Was she always one for very little words? “...Aunty?” He addressed her. “..Is everything alright..?”

Red smiled softly before pulling his wife aside to kiss her cheek. “Well, we’ll be back with groceries soon. I’ve noticed that we’re running low on some things.” he commented, now standing beside his son and Lao.

“Can you please ask Carmine to clean her room?” Red requested before he ran out to do some grocery shopping with Jasper.

Now… What did they need? He checked his email quickly, since he’d asked his mom how to make that cake for his last birthday… At least they were in the small town now! Their conversation wouldn’t be overheard unless it was by a stranger…

“Alright… We need bananas as a substitute for eggs, cocoa powder, flour, we’re low on salt, sugar and we can make a compote with the berries at home…” he muttered, doing a mental check of what they had at home. “Maybe we could get ice cream in Lumiose tonight with your mom and sister as a treat.”

Yellow nodded and waved as the two left. They both still had a long way to go in order to establish a close relationship... especially because Jasper relied more on Laos than his own father.

Jasper looked on straight ahead, hands gently patting Laos on the shoulder once in a while as he heard what dad was saying. Bananas. Cocoa Powder. ...Flower? Salt. Sugar. Hm. This was certainly a lot to remember. It was a good thing he worked up the nerve to ask his dad for help.

“...Is it really hard to make a cake..?” He asked. Jasper was mentally trying to figure out why they needed “flower”. What purpose does it have in the batter..?

"..Papa!" the kiddo came fumbling over before coming to a stop. He reached in his pockets for a moment before pulling out a note to hand it to Red that read: "Help me bake a cake for mama?"

“Alright. Want to go to the store and help me pick up some things?” He asked while he carefully scratched behind Pèche’s ears. The Pichu was nestled on top of Jasper’s messy hair. “We ran out of that egg substitute yesterday morning, so we’ll have to go to town and get some before we start anything.”

“Hmm…” he hummed, checking the food pantry. “We’re also out of sugar. I guess we’re going to the store to grab some essentials too.”

Red was half-tempted to pick up Jasper like when he was smaller and take him to the store. But the kid was still most comfortable with his mother, even after all these years…

“C'mon. We’ll take Pèche and Lao to help. Pika is busy with keeping unwanted visitors at bay, so I’ll take Char to help with anything heavy that we might pick up.” He smiled, grabbing his vest.

“Honey! We’re out of some food items, so I’m going to the store with Jasper! We’ll be back soon!” Res called out before opening the door for his son. “Jasper wanted a sandwich, but we’re out of bread! We’ll be back in ten minutes!”

The ex-Champion leaned down and gently patted the top of Jasper’s head. “We’ll got you some chocolates while we’re out, okay?” He asked softly as to not tip off his wife.

Jasper was pretty much following after his dad, though still on a more cautious side. But hey! At least he was willing to comply with the request! And at least… he was willing enough to leave the house for a few things that they needed. He smiled in a sheepish way when he had realized that dad wasn’t going to tip off mom what they were up to.

Jasper looked up at Peche as it pounded at its little chest as though to say “leave it to me!” and nodded before whistling for Lao to come. He almost never kept the Loudred in the pokeball, though whenever it does get out of hand, it was usually Jasper who managed to get it outside before his dad could actually react. It would normally take some time to soothe his pokemon before calling it inside the pokeball to rest.. though he still fretted over the large (to his perspective) pokemon being in a small capsule.

Jasper reached up toward Lao who promptly lifted him onto its shoulder before going after Red. “Bye mama!” He called.

Yellow peeked out from the room for a moent and smiled. “Be safe, you two.” She spoke. “Can you also get some more tea leaves? We’re running low.” Yellow requested.

Jasper nodded. “Tea leaves! We got it.” He grins with glee for a moment as Lao turned to wave before leaving with Jasper on it. He was already trying hard not to sing out their real objective.

She just pinched her brother’s cheeks, not hard mind you, and grinned. “I kinda miss it though! My baby brother, all grown up…” she sighed, gathering up her Pokemon as they came to her.

“Papa says that Uncle Ama will come visit this spring while we’re on break in school.” Carmine told Jasper. “Uncle Ama hasn’t come to visit us since you were a baby. We’ve gone to visit him on our breaks, but this time we can show him the berry field and I can take him shopping in Cyllage City and Lumoise City! Papa gets a great discount for Mama being a model afterall!”

Someone should stop her before she starts dragging Jasper to boutiques. Though seriously, she won’t stop talking about fashion once she starts. So, Jasper take her to Cyllage before she loses track of what she’s supposed to do.

He noticed Peche coming with Carmine’s Pichu and lifted his own up to his shoulder to let the Pichu rest a bit as Charmie settled on Lao’s shoulder. He was quiet for the most part as his sister chatted away. It honestly did not take long for Uncle Amarillo to get in Jasper’s good books, so the two got along whenever his attention wasn’t mostly on the girl.

“Is that so?” He asked, as he reached for her hand to lead her in the other direction away from the city and back on the path to Cyllage. “Don’t get distracted now.”

“You were a lot more fun to tease when we were in Kanto with Uncle Amarillo that one summer…” she pouted, remembering all of the times he got extremely flustered over tiny little things. “But it was a good experience to learn to speak Kanto’s language and teach Uncle Amarillo some more Kalosian.”

Carmine put the tea in a travel mug and popped the lid on. “Did you get everything? ‘Cause we’re leaving soon.” she asked, patting Lao for getting all of the herbal remedies for her brother.

“Chupi! Belle-Belle!” she called out, “It’s time to leave~ Gather the others!”

Ah? Really? “Sorry for growing up.” He muttered as Lao was happy to have Carmine’s approval. Mom did tell him that it was his sister’s job to tease him relentlessly and it was up to him on how to react... and he had figured it out. As much as he loves Carmine, he rather not turn into a pink person when it came to being teased. So he had his mom to thank for the advice.

“Yeah. This should be everything.” He said as he poured the rest of the tea in a canister to refrigerate. “Do you think that maybe Uncle Ama would come visit us sometimes?” He asked as he was ready to leave at anytime now.

“You’re my adorable baby brother and I’m fourteen and have my jobs helping out at Pokemon Centers.” she sighed, “Even Nurse Joy needs her help sometimes, and you training with Mama would help us both a lot. Even if it’s just this once.”

Carmine glanced at the Loudred and smiled. “Lao’s asking if this is enough to take to Cyllage City with us.” she told her brother. “Lao seems pretty excited to go on a little adventure, don’t you think?”

“...It’ll take much more than that to get me embarrassed. Nice try though. I know I’m an adorable little brother even if there are times I CAN’T CONTROL MY VOICE.” He paused for a moment, a hand over his mouth as he looked away. Arceus dammit. “...Sorry.” He said a tad too soft. Was she sure she wanted him to tag along after all?

Lao chucked for a moment as Jasper looked over the contents in the basket. He then nodded. “Yeah! Thanks, Lao! You wanna come with us?” Lao nodded in eagerness. Yep. His sister was right as usual when it came to communicating with pokemon. Man, he wished he had that ability...

And with Laos coming with them, neither of the siblings were going to get the chance to hold the herbal basket anyway. With a nod, he moved to fetch the basket lid to place over the basket before going to get the hot water to pour into a small cup for his sister. “Careful, Carr. This tea you’re about to enjoy is extremely hot. Don’t chug it down.” He said with a smile once it was set on the table before her, casually teasing in his own way.

“Then they’ll be lost together. Like a date!” she grinned. “Afterwards, Papa can take Mama out for dinner and come home. Papa and Mama’s lives don’t revolve around just you and me… Uncle Green’s gonna come and babysit us both.”

Carmine then just smooched her brother on the forehead.

“Do you want to come visit Cyllage City with me? Nurse Joy can watch us both instead of Uncle Green.” she asked. “If you’re learning from Mama, then you can bring some berries and herbs to help relax the trainers and treat less serious injuries with me.”

How weird... Sure, he’s aware that he was often the one hogging a majority of Mama’s attention.. but isn’t that not just his job, but his sister’s as well?

He looked over toward his sister for a moment. He would have argued if she hadn’t mentioned bringing some herbs and berries with him. But at the same time.. “There are some things that cannot be prepared outside the house, Carr.” He murmured. 

Nurse Joy over Uncle Green, huh? He supposed that was how she saw things.. but at the same time... he didn’t mind the uncle so much. He may seem strict, but at least Jasper was able to show off his herbal skills that he got from mama. At the same time, he hadn’t been able to spend time with his sister much lately. So he supposed it couldn’t hurt.

“Well.. Just this once. I’ll come anyway. Lao~ Is it done yet?” He called off to the side. A soft sound came before the Loudred came out with a basket full of various herbs. He seemed to be grinning as he gestured to the basket as if wanting to know if it was enough.

“Mmhmm…” she smiled, hugging her brother tightly. “Papa’s been running around Lumoise, getting Mama some new job offers. And I’d love some tea.”

He patted his sister on the back while she hugged him. “...Even though he knows Mama has a tendency of getting lost in the city..?” He asked before letting her go to go to his table to fetch a few leaves to grind and prepare the tea as the water started to heat up.

“Of course not.” she sighed, “Papa’s been busy… And I’ve been busy helping out in Camphrier Town… Nurse Joy has a lot of people and Pokemon who are very injured coming through daily…”

“Haaaah... Is that it?” Jasper sighed for a moment before scratching the back of his head. “..Do you want me to prepare a cup of tea for you? It’ll revitalize you at least. I’ve been learning from mama.” He offered.

Well..okay..-Yuki responded as she looked over his shoulder, watching Yellow wander away. Then she looks back to Jasper.- …Your mom’s nice—I mean both your parents are nice.

Yeah! I love mama and papa. ...Though I have to really try to control how loud I speak around papa... he doesn't like loud noises very much..

[Yellow goes first to prepare more lunch and let Jasper stay with Sister a while longer]

Oh no, not at all! I was just coming out here to see if Jasper was hungry yet. [leans over to whisper to Jasper for a moment]
