Is there any evidence that suggests that either newspaper favors a particular political party or leader?
President Putin decided to make a public opinion a.k.a. a plea to the world based on the dilemma with Syria and America so there are many articles analyzing what Putin said based on the current situations. I thought that article 1 was more convincing because it used a lot more evidence for backing up its main points and it did this by talking about past events that may have affected each country in the past year. It was also more convincing as it talked about the long-term effects of a military strike on Syria and how Syria and America will benefit out of it. Article 2 was still a bit convincing but not as much as Article 1 because it still used strong words and it also talked about possible false accusations on the Syrian governments use on chemical weapons but it did not mention anything about consequences or long terms effects.
I found article 2 more interesting despite the fact that it didn’t persuade me as much because it used a lot of interesting and shocking facts that are really obvious such as the fact that the Syrian government might not have been the ones that used the chemical weapons. Also it analyzes the fact of Putin’s doubt on America’s exceptionalism, which is connected to the friendship of the two nations.
I the first article three different types of bias are word choice, sources, and limiting debate because it uses strong and direct words, which if used against a nation they would feel offended. Sources because it talks about past evens that have happened to the countries and how they were affected. Finally limiting debate because Putin doubts the fact of America’s exceptionalism. Article 2 involved word choices, propaganda in a way, and limiting debate as well because it also used strong words such as warned and doubt which when used against a nation might be considered an insult. Another type of bias that was used in this article were propaganda because he is trying to benefit Russia when he talks about the faults and situations of other countries even if it is beneficial or not. Finally it used limiting debate because it is also mentioning how Putin doubts America’s nationalism which and because it talks about how the rebels were the ones who used the chemical weapons instead.
Both articles although were not siding with any of the political leaders or any nation but they were just criticizing a few people and thoughts made by President Putin as well as some of their criticism were bias.
