@fishinspecteur
Javert is still asleep by the time Moreau wakes up.
Pierre woke shortly after the sun started to rise. He stirred before his eyes opened. There was little he could truly see except for the light of dawn from the window. Too early, he decided, and shut his eyes again.
He was aware of the pain in his side, but fatigue won over it. He dozed off for a few moments before promptly being woken again. Something was off. Then it hit him:
There was warmth beside him.
Another person was laying in the bed with him. Quite closely, might he add. Pierre’s eyes snapped open in an instant at that realization. He quickly sat upright, only to instantly regret it and lay back again at the sudden pain the movement caused.
Gah-!
The noise stirred Javert from his sleep, and he wakes up with a grunt.
Mmph…?
It seems to suddenly occur to Javert what’s going on, and he turns red and sits up like a shot.
Pierre?!
Seeing someone—Javert, he gathered by voice—sit up beside him jogged Pierre’s memory. Being stabbed. Walking here, of all places. Suggesting they share the bed. He recalled it now. He reached for his glasses and put them on, then looked up. Indeed, that was Javert.
…Javert. Bonjour.
He greeted sheepishly, blinking up at him as his own face reddened.
…B…Bonjour, Moreau.
I remember now. How do you feel?
Javert awkwardly stands up and tries to get dressed while attempting to act natural.
Like hell.
He huffed in reply, managing to push himself to sit up again. He glanced Javert’s way, then instantly averted his gaze towards the window. He ran one hand through his hair in an attempt to smooth it before murmuring,
I.. apologize for waking you.
It is fine.
There’s an awkward silence.
Do you need anything to wear?
Well, I don’t suppose it is ideal for me to walk around in bloody clothing.
A poor attempt at a jest. He cleared his throat.
But- I’m sure it will be fine. Surely, the public have seen worse.
I suppose.
Well. Uh. Goodbye.
..Yes. Right.
Pierre managed to push himself out of the bed and to his feet with the grace of a newborn foal. He picked up his coat and vest from where he had draped them the night before and carefully pulled them both on.
With careful steps, he started towards the door. Then he paused and looked over his shoulder at Javert.
..What d’you suppose the likelihood of them giving me time off for this is?
Rather high. Javert watches Moreau quite closely as he gets ready to leave.
Good. I don’t think I’d be of use to anyone like this..
Upon reaching the door, Pierre reached up to fix his glasses. He had a long day ahead of him.
Thank you for your hospitality. I ah.. I apologize for showing up so late and troubling you.
It is fine. You do not need to apologize.
Javert looks away.
Are we still going fishing on Wednesday?
