Mich: Oh I'm doing okay. My hours at the diner have been cut down dramatically but I'm doing some online video sessions with the clinic. How about you?

Jay: I drop some equipment off at your door, sanitized of course, and you record vocals for me.

Jay: I'm glad you're able to get some work at the clinic. I'm sure plenty of people are needing you for just that right now. They're having us take our PTO for the time being, sort of in a holding pattern. But they're letting me use the studio and equipment for whatever I want, so I've found some projects to keep me busy.

You don’t get to rewrite the story and dictate my emotions just because you didn’t know what was going on inside of my head. I was with you because I wanted to be with you, not because I was trying to scoot off one year of my life on something forced. I poured myself into this relationship with you but you know what? It’s exhausting, Jay. It was so fucking mentally draining trying to give you my good side all the time because I was so fucking scared of not wanting to hurt you so you wouldn’t act like a kicked puppy. You wouldn’t be able to handle all of me anyway. The real me.” She argued, her expressions clearly failing to hide how wound up and upset she was feeling.

“I don’t-- I have no idea what made you think that way, because I--” he refrained himself from delving further, it was all useless. “Okay, but can’t you see right there what you just said? You poured everything you had into giving you your good side. I never asked for your good side, and just because I don’t argue back with you doesn’t mean I can’t take--” he grew frustrated and sucked in a breath. “I’m not some child. I never needed to be coddled, I never needed to be sheltered from every side of you. Just because I opt not to combat, not to feed into that side of you like your ex, that doesn’t mean I’m weak, or I’m some ‘kicked puppy’ and it’s bull shit for you to have just-- just viewed me like that and sheltered me from parts of you because you thought I needed it. I didn’t. I never did. And just because I’m quieter, kinder, softer-- that doesn’t mean I can’t handle things.”

“Not just wet, but like wet for a long time, so long it has that moldy gross smell to it,” he gave her a grimace before it turned to a laugh.
