365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…

April 14th - Mister Terrific 


Two heroes have operated under the name of Mister Terrific. The first was a Golden Age adventurer named Terry Sloan. Sloan was a child prodigy who managed to parlay his intellect into success in business. He also trained his body and physical skills to be on par with his intellectual acumen. After saving a woman from a gangster, Sloan found a new purpose in life and set off as the costumed mystery man called ‘Mr. Terrific’ the ‘defender of fair play.’ The hero would go on to serve among The All-Star Squadron during the Second World War and later became a member of the Justice Society before his eventual retirement. The modern age Mister Terrific is Michael Holt. Like his predecessor, Holt is also a gifted genius who had used his intellect to succeed in business, forming the lucrative technology firm, Holt Industries. Tragically, Holt’s pregnant wife was killed in an automobile accident. Devastated, Holt contemplated suicide when he was visited by the otherworldly entity known as The Specter. The Specter told Holt about the original Mr. Terrific and the positive impact the hero had had on the world around him. Inspired by this tale, Holt decided to rededicate himself to becoming the new Mr. Terrific, utilizing his wits, physical prowess and technological skills to become a highly proficient crimefighter. Mr. Terrific became a member of the new Justice Society, ultimately earning the role of chairperson of the team. He also served as a member of The Justice League. More recently, he has formed his own team of adventurers called The Terrifics. A version of the second Mr. Terrific has appeared on the television series Legends of Tomorrow portrayed by actor Echo Kellum. The original Mr. Terrific first appeared in Sensation Comics #1 (1942); while The Michael Holt version first appeared in the pages of The Specter Vol.3 #54 (1997).
