Obsession (2026) - Review
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS One day I was kinda bored and I thought I catch a movie this week. I haven't been in theaters in some time and I suck at keeping up movies and there's a lot of trendy movies (2025-now) that I still haven't. HOWEVER there was this one movie that came out recently that really caught my eye which is of course, Obsession. Obsession is dark, horrifying, relatable, sometimes raunchy, and it definitely fucks with your head when u realize who's the real antagonist So in this first edition of "Jay Reviews Cool Stuff", here is my extremely deep review of Obsession.
LONG STORY SHORT....... The movie is about are main character, Bear who struggles to tell his crush Nikki how he feels about her. In the beginning of the movie, we see Bear practicing with Ian and a waitress; we also see him try numerous times to tell Nikki that he likes her but he always screw up. Not to mention that he's grieving from the death of his cat and the fact Bear is just a shy and timid person in general (something i'll get into in a bit). His final attempt though.........this is where the madness begins......Nikki gets out of the car and ask him "do u still like me?" after trying to give her a present. and Bear being the nervous guy he is decides not to tell the truth and say no. What's even WORSE is that Bear says "bye freaky nikki"; a nickname from high school that Nikki hates. After seeing her walk into house, Bear just says fuck it and wishes that Nikki "will love him more than anyone in the fucking world" and snaps the One Wish Willow he bought as a gift for her and then Nikki comes back outside to him going insane. She seemed nervous, always saying sorry, and just super crazy for Bear.
After that, Bear lets Nikki (cursed btw) stay at his house for the night. Nikki tells him that his father has cancer (yeah aight sis) and slept together. During mid-smoochfest, Nikki starts screaming and going batshit crazy and Bear's all like "what tf????" Then Nikki goes back to sleep. Oh and then she made like artsy thing with his cat and Bear was "like again, wtf????" After a WHOLE montage of them dating, hanging out, and everything under the sun, we transition to the dinner scene. Bear gets a call from Ian saying that her "my daddy got cancer" story is a fucking lie. He confronts to Nikki about this and Nikki (again, CONTROLLED BY THE WISH BEAR MADE) goes off! Nikki: NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WE WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bear: we are
*REMEMBERS MORE ABOUT THE MOVIE* Okay hear we go! So there's scene after that where Ian tells Bear that he's definitely taking advantage of Nikki (NOTE: I'LL GET INTO THAT). Bear, ironically enough, gets pretty defensive about that. When Bear gets home, Nikki is on her crazy shit again. Screaming outside bathroom, begging to come with him to the party even though it's "men only". Bear gives in and says "sure. come with me to the party". During a chill game of Jenga with dares, Nikki starts speaking and excerpt from Hansel and Gretel; and when Bear gets his turn and has to kiss his Sarah (who was next to her), Nikki goes ballistic again and hitting herself with glass. After those poetic horror shenanigans, Bear and Nikki come back home and have a talk about it and Nikki goes on talking about "im your freaky nikki"
Now it's late night. Bear gets a text from Sarah about her getting excepted into a college. Bear snuck out to her, they (bear + sarah) talk about it, and OH MY GOD NIKKI WHAT THE FUCK OH GOD THAT'S GOTTA HURT HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yep. nikki was slaming sarah's head into the steering wheel. im telling you "wish controlled nikki" is a crazy bitch lol Just so we can keep it short, because I do have to talk about my actual thoughts about the movie, after seeing Sarah die RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER, Bear tries to reverse the wish, doesn't work, attempts s*icide with pills, and after dying in Nikki's arms, the REAL Nikki comes back and sees everything that just fucking happened.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE I think this movie is did a great job with the storytelling, writing, and its unique take on "the antagonist role". Because I'll be honest......at first, I found Bear to be relatable. He's nervous, awkward, tmid, and apologizes a lot. I can feel him just trying to confess to a girl he likes. And seeing him snap the make-a-wish stick just changed everything for me. Because now I'm seeing the side him that wants Nikki to "be Nikki" or fucking her under the wish or anything else he has done in this movie. Again, a very unique perspective on the antagonist role. I also like how in some scenes we can't Nikki's face. This whole movie I was preparing myself for that next jumpscare lol. Well in short, I love Obsession. Go watch it, yall! (PS: PROBABLY WILL UPDATE THIS SINCE THIS MY FIRST TIME DOING BLOG REVIEW SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEA LOL)
