Gonna write down my thoughts as quickly as possible before bed but I imagine this post will still end up long winded and rambling, apologies in advance
I rewatched all of WOY with my best friends, and it got me brainstorming about what a potential season 3 could've looked like. At first it was just a vague thought of Peepers becoming the main antagonist, but it quickly expanded, and I ended up having an idea for the whole seasons arc, and even getting inspired to write the first two episodes (haven't yet, but might). This whole thing is going to be very Peepers focused because he is my extremely obvious bias and I snuck some not so subtle Deathglare into there as well. Specifically one-sided.
It starts with Peepers finally, FINALLY crashing out and losing his shit at Hater. He decides he could do this whole taking over the galaxy thing on his own ("If you ask me I should be in charge"), and in a sudden act of rebellion he gathers the Watchdogs and overthrows Hater, kicking him out of his own ship. Without Hater's constant chasing of Wander holding him back,, things advance quickly. He improves the ships functionality, the Watchdogs obedeince and uniformity, and even upgrades his own outfit to include robotic limb additions.
He becomes a militant dictator with little effort, only enacting the plans he's had in mind all along. With no one left to hold him back, he swiftly gets to work.
Meanwhile, Hater... meanders across the galaxy, desperately (and mostly aimlessly) trying to figure out how to even function on his own. His attempts to scare others into submission are mostly fruitless without his army or his intelligent sidekick ("where's the weird little smart guy?") and he's left with what feels like nothing.
Of course, Wander and Sylvia come around and attempt to help, but he consistently refuses- because he is just kind of Like That- and won't even tell them what's wrong.
That is until Peepers and the Watchdogs invade the planet they're on and shows them.
Throughout the season, I imagine, Hater is forced time and time again to team up with Wander and Sylvia to avoid or escape Peepers or other villains, until ultimately he's left with no choice but to travel with them. In their journey, Hater (slowly but surely) starts to become a little more comfortable, and I would for him to finally see through the character arc he's been set up to have for so long. It would most definitely take time, it certainly wouldn't be easy, and by the end I'd want Hater to still be his grumpy, impulsive, easily distracted self. But having friends by your side certainly helps more than it hurts. ("It never hurts to help!")
Meanwhile, Peepers' rules the galaxy with an iron fist. He conquers planets with ease, refusing to be distracted by antics or drama. And the galaxy is forced to bend to his rule, becoming just as militant and grim as the Skullship itself has become. But Peepers still feels unsatisfied. Something is still missing.
Or... someone?
Peepers comes to a realization. He tracks down the disgraced Lord Dominator, the only individual besides himself to ever manage such a feat, and offers her a team-up- together they could become to most powerful in not only the galaxy, but the entire universe. At first, Dominator doesn't like the sound of all that (working WITH someone? Talk about BLEGH! She could do all that on her own, and more!) But Peepers isn't just all talk. He's got the army, the resources, the planets, the power to prove that he too can make it. He's all bite, no bark, and after much deliberation, Dominator accepts.
Together, the two become near unstoppable. They spread their reign of terror and conquer multiple galaxies- planet after planet after planet fall to their regime. It's power unlike either of them have ever seen before, and it's thrilling. And shockingly, the two of them get along quite well... usually. When they get on, it's like a house on fire, spreading across the neighborhood and leaving a calculated terror in their wake. But when they fight... well, it's somehow even MORE descructive. (I described it to my friends as "nuclear war".)
While this horrorshow is worse than anything they've seen before, Wander and Sylvia have done this before and they'll do it again. This time with a (mostly relunctant) Lord Hater by their side. Not only that, but the hundreds of friends they've made across their journeys, and the many civilizations they've saved from Peepers' dictatorship.
I believe this is official art of the ship Wander and Sylvia were meant to have in season 3. I wanted to incorporate this into my vision, and I definitely think it could work. More friends means more help, more helps means their very own ship, and of course they use it to save refugees and amass their own army- of friends. Wow. #lovewins
While Wander and Sylvia (and Hater) follow Peepers' trail and save as many folks as they can, Dominator plots betrayal. As much as having an actual friend has served to influence her, it's not yet enough to stop her power hungry maniacal drive, and once they rule the universe "together" she plans to take the glory and power all for herself. (How exactly? Uhh... I'm not sure this bit is a little vague)
Peepers on the other hand... still feels unsatisfied. He has everything he could ever possibly want! Power, control, an army that listens to his exact and every command! He's respected, feared, tall. Everything he ever thought he wanted... but something is still missing. He starts to think back on his life. All those years spent by Hater's side, all the memories they shared. Dramatic entrances, swimming in piles of skulls, laughing at his stupid, un-funny jokes. Even chasing after Wander was... kinda fun, sometimes...
All this power, all this glory, being the most powerful man in the entire universe- it doesn't mean anything without Hater there with him. It doesn't feel like anything at all.
So when it comes time for that final confrontation- Peepers' army and Wander's friends finally come head to head and Dominator puts a final cherry on her backstabbing cake- Peepers accepts his defeat with little resistance. He leaves it all behind, just to see Hater again.
Dominator can't help but feel like she's the one who'd been betrayed. But she doesn't let it show.
She picks up where they left off, brutal and cruel as ever.
But she doesn't stand a chance.
They defeat Dominator for a second time, and for a second time she throws a fit. But Wander is the tried and true believer in third, fourth, fifth chances, and reaches out a hand again. This time, with little left to do, she accepts. And while it takes... a LOT of time, and a LOT of effort, it's worth it in the end to make a new friend.
That or she leaves and never comes back and everyone else lives happily ever after. Hard to say which one sends a better message when a lot of shows have been criticized for redeeming dictators, but I dunno, I'm a sucker for a good redemption arc.
I feel like this would be a fitting end to the show as a whole. Peepers and Hater have obviously been set up to get their redemption arcs, and I think even the same could be said for Dominator with episodes like The Bot and The Night Out. So I think it would be a good idea to bring all those to their natural conclusion and get a happily ever after friendship and happiness kind of ending as opposed to adding a new big bad and keeping the status quo. If there were to be a season 4 however, we could certainly go with an ending more remiscent of the season 2 ending, where things somewhat return to where they were before. But I think ending things off at season 3 would serve the show nicely.
Not that any of this would ever happen of course. I'm just some random idiot on the internet and the show got canned over a decade ago. I just have so many thoughts about this show that they started overflowing out of my brain and onto the blank canvas that is this tumblr post. Not so blank anymore!
Anyway I hope all that made some kinda sense and seemed cool or interesting. Idk. Tend to doubt myself about these thing but I'm relatively confident in this. Specifically when it comes to Peepers' arc/story. Thanks for reading my endless yap. It took like an hour to write holy shit this took an hour????
