with a cool cool breeze and dirty knees || delia and jay

Delia giggled at his guesses. âIâll show you some time. When the weatherâs warmer, I can make a meal over a fire like back home. Youâll get to see what youâve been missing,â she grinned, taking one of the rounded fried meats. Taking a bite, she tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out if she liked it or not. âItâs very,â words were escaping her at the moment, and she switched hands, looking down at her greasy fingers. âWet. But itâs quite nice,â she said, popping the rest of it past her lips. His smile made her feel warm and welcome all over, and she decided right then that she liked him immensely. When sheâd first came in, she felt a little like a nuisance, but now it seemed like they could be friends. âOh, Iâve had chocolate before! Only a few times,â she opened the packet and broke off a piece for herself and one for him, holding it out to Jay. âA couple birthdays,â she added, feeling like this was way too much of a treat, and wishing her brother was around so she could bring him some as well.
Jay pulled a turtle face, brows raised and mouth downturned at her offer. He wasnât thrilled by the idea, mostly because he wasnât sure whether it was something he would enjoy. For starters, hanging around a fire just seemed tedious, and he had a very strong feeling that he wouldnât like whatever she served him. But then again, he was never going to turn down free food. âIâll accept that challenge but Iâm a tough judge.â Jay really wasnât, heâd eat anything put in front of him. âBirthdays? Thatâs just too long to wait.â He told her like it was his specialist topic, taking the square from her and chomping it down. âThey do different types yknow? Like white chocolate or hazelnut and oreo and peanut butter and itâs just, ugh.â He groaned, tipping his head back.Â
