Hello! I will go by Jay here on Tumblr! My pronouns are He/Him and I identify as aroace. I really like writing "x reader" fanfic so that's mostly the stuff I'll be posting, maybe the occasional something else, but that's it really.
I can write both SFW and NSFW but I tend to prefer to write SFW. The characters under 18 I will write for are Dwayne Hoover, Vance Hopper, and Robin Arellano and I will not do anything sexual for them anymore. All other characters I write for will be 18 or over. Any requests for hard no’s will be deleted.
Hard no’s include sexual content involving minors, romantic or sexual content for Alex Jones from Prisoners, sexual noncon or dubcon including cnc, non-familial requests for characters 11 and under, hetero relationships for canonically gay characters, and pieces about real people.
Please feel free to send me prompts or anything, really. I love hearing from people, and I tend to run low on ideas so if there's something you think I should write then lmk. Please give me time to write them, I have a job and attend college and not as much free time as I would like. Whatever pronouns are used for the reader in your requests will be the ones in the fic, if there are no pronouns, I'll use they/them. For smut requests, please include the anatomy you would like. If it’s not specified, I will decide based on what I want to write that day. All drafts will be published in the order they are received/made unless I am experiencing writer's block, in which case I will work on whatever prompt inspires me the most. If y’all ever see that I answered a post but then can’t find it on my page/see it unfinished, I published it too early and deleted it. I’ll upload it with a screenshot of the prompt when it’s ready, very sorry.
In my posts, I will provide a word count, description (for stories), pairing (character x reader or character/reader), and pairing type (familial, platonic, romantic, sexual), and tags/warning. If there is a tag you believe I missed for a story you would like acknowledged, feel free to say something either in a direct message or a comment!
Most of my pieces will have a GN!reader and any NSFW will typically be female anatomy with some occasional male anatomy, but I can do something else on request.
Hey y’all. I know I’ve been on a hiatus for a long time, saying I would be back, but I have finally come to the decision to abandon this account. I will stay logged in for any messages or notifications as well as lurking on tumblr, but I will permanently no longer be posting. It was really fun writing for you guys, thank you so much for all the love you gave my pieces, I will miss this. I will continue to write on my AO3, but since I made this account an “x reader” blog, I will no longer be posting. Thanks for everything and I wish you all the best.
Pairing: Kaneda Shotaro x Tetsuo Shima (implied romantic)
Word count: 1521
Description: Even years after the incident that took Tetsuo and Akira, Kaneda still returns to the site of the destruction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaneda leaned forward on his bike, willing it to go faster than it could. The bike roared as it carried him along the empty streets, zooming past toppled buildings and crushed houses, carrying him through the ravaged city of what Neo-Tokyo used to be, the high-speed winds ruffled his hair like a friend’s rough hands as the speedometer continued to crawl upwards of 150 kilometers an hour. The air that used to be difficult to breathe with the dust and debris floating after the incident was now as smooth as it was anywhere else in the country.
Kaneda smiled subtly, reminiscing about a time years ago; driving with his friends at dangerously high speeds along a busy road, fighting with the Clowns like they could all live forever. Kaneda could swear to himself that if he looked in the corner of his eye just right, he could see Tetsuo riding alongside him. Kaneda looked, yet no one was there, only the cracked concrete that had been left behind so long ago. Even the bike is almost the same as it was back then. It took Kaneda months, and a great deal of stolen parts, to return it to at least a semblance of its former glory. It could never truly compare to what it used to be, it had changed, just like he had.
The wrecked structures became few and far between, and eventually gave way to nothing at all, as Kaneda approached his destination. There was no road anymore, all there was was dirt that he had previously picked clear of debris to make a path for his journey, a journey he had now made many times. As he drew even closer, there was then no debris. At that proximity to the blast, any material had been incinerated instantly, with no chance given to leave a trace behind. Instead, though, grew plant life. Little spots of green popped out of the layers of singed matter covering the layers of dirt, absorbing any sunlight and water the unforgiving landscape would provide. But, Kaneda thought to himself, was this landscape still unforgiving? His gaze deviated from the makeshift road to stare at some of the sprouts. Would a place still remembering the past events allow itself to try to reform? He didn’t think it would if he were honest.
Kaneda slowed his bike before bringing it to a full stop. He slowly lowered it to the ground in its resting position and then stood to go next to one of the small plants. He knelt down to peer closer. He gingerly ran his fingers across the little leaves the sprout bore. The old Kaneda probably would have ripped the small thing out of the ground to examine it, but this Kaneda would not. He had grown somewhat, but he was reluctant to admit it, reluctant to face what that would mean. Kaneda allowed himself to fall slightly backward to land in a seated position. In some odd way that he didn’t consciously address, he related to this place. It had suffered so greatly both during and after that fated event, and it had taken such a long time to even begin to try again. But here it was, growing once more, beginning the steps to reclaim what had been lost, refusing to be another victim of what had happened that day, refusing to become just another life lost.
In his conscious mind, Kaneda made no such connection, he didn’t want to. Kaneda released his gentle grip on the plant and wandered back to his bike. He brought it back to its riding position and set off again on his journey. Kaneda knew he was close to where he needed to be. Not only could he feel it deep in his chest, but he could also see it. Dead ahead was a rise in the road, the edge of the crater. He used to be nervous when he would crest the edge of the crater and ride the wall down to the center, but not anymore. He still felt the odd sensation in his stomach as his bike sped down to the lower ground, but he had become accustomed to it.
Kaneda tapped the brakes of his bike as he rode down, trying to keep his speed low enough that he could stop where he wanted. The coasting speed from the hill gave enough of a push to send him to the center of the crater, ground zero as it had been referred to by Kaisuke. Kaneda had returned here many times over the years since his fight with Tetsuo. He had set up a makeshift camp right at the center, a place he would spend days at a time in at first. It was nothing fancy, a sleeping bag, a milk crate chair, and a few small, scattered items he simply kept there. As always, Kaneda parked his bike next to his spot and sat down on the milk crate.
“Sorry I’m late,” he announced into the surrounding space. “Traffic.” He laughed to himself. “Nah, I just had some stuff to attend to. Work has me all hours of the day, and when I’m not there, I’m with Kai and Kei, it’s like I hardly have time to stop by anymore.” Kaneda no longer shouted, but instead talked at a normal speaking volume, as if whoever he was talking to was right next to him. “I can’t imagine you’ve been up to much, I’m sure you’d tell me if you had been.” Kaneda pulled a cigarette from his pocket and set it between his lips, searching his other pocket for something to light it with. He then produced a lighter from his back pocket and lit the cigarette, breathing in deeply before exhaling.
“Everyone still asks what I’m doing when I come out here, even though I’ve never answered. It’s like they can’t take the hint. They’d probably freak out if I told them about you. It’s like they’ve all already forgotten about you.” Kaneda’s voice was the only sound for miles, the area had been unpopulated since the incident and would likely always remain that way. “I can’t even remember the last time I heard them say your name,” Kaneda’s voice was quieter now, just above a whisper. “Tetsuo.” The name made his heart hurt, made his hand feel empty and his body feel cold. He could feel his gut boiling with words he didn’t quite know how to say up until now.
“I keep wondering if you died that day. Or if you, I don’t know, just went somewhere else, another universe, maybe. Well, where did you go, Tetsuo? Why couldn’t I have come with you? I thought we were supposed to be friends, I thought we were -,” Kaneda’s voice caught in his throat. He stood and began to pace around his chair. “Maybe I could have helped you. I didn’t know how then, but maybe I coulda learned, I coulda tried. Those kids coulda helped, maybe. God, what did they do to you? Akira…what did Akira do to you? Shit, why did you have to go? You told me you’d always be here, that I was stuck with you.” Kaneda’s voice was getting louder now. “Did I hurt you, Tetsuo? Was I not good enough to you? For you? Did you make a whole new universe just to escape me? Why did you leave me behind?” Kaneda’s shouts echoed through the empty landscape, off the walls of the crater.
“I waited for you. All these years, I’ve been sitting here like a dumbass, just waiting for you to pop out of the sky and come back to me.” His eyes burned with the beginning of tears as he continued. “And honestly, I’m probably just going to keep waiting. Because a guy like me just doesn’t know any better, doesn’t know when to stop.” Even as he was venting to the open air, there were so many things Kaneda was leaving unsaid, and it was mostly because he himself was unaware of them.
Kaneda had spent 7 long years waiting for Tetsuo to reappear, to simply fall out of the sky, back into his arms. Kaneda hoped the universe could somehow restore everything that his best friend had destroyed, the people he had killed, the world he had shattered. Even though he knew all of these things to be impossible, Kaneda still waited, for 7 years, and he would continue to wait. He would continue to waste his life in this crater, in this decimated town. Even though he would keep clinging to the idea that Tetsuo would return, Kaneda would also grow. Kaneda had grown, he had learned, he had changed. But Kaneda would never admit to himself he had changed because, in his mind, that would mean he had outgrown Tetsuo, that he was leaving him behind, as though Tetsuo hadn’t left him behind.
But Kaneda had run out of words, out of things he was ready to admit. He sat back down.
“I’m not too mad, though, Tets,” Kaneda hummed. “Don’t worry.”
“I’ll wait for you.”
Description: Eddie gives Y/N his first guitar lesson from the back of his van
Eddie chuckled to himself under his breath and held out his hand to help you into the van. You tried your best to fight the rising color in your cheeks as you reached out your hand and slotted it in Eddie’s. Once he had a hold on you, he pulled you up into the truck, a little bit faster than you were ready for. You trip a little bit on the rough, black carpet covering the interior of the van, but recover quickly enough to avoid an actual fall. Eddie pretended not to notice in order to help you preserve your already bruised dignity.
Eddie picked the black guitar up from its position against the wall and rest it in his lap. He looked towards you and nodded his head towards the white guitar. You glanced between it and him before you took the hint and brought the guitar over to you. You held it in your lap, mimicking how Eddie held his. You struggled at first to find a natural position for the instrument to sit. It had been years since you had last held any sort of instrument. Music classes weren’t a requirement at Hawkins High, and none of your family members played anything, so you just as much attribute it to a lack of opportunity as much as a lack of interest.
Eddie watched you struggle intently before resting his guitar against the van wall and getting up.
“Here, like this,” Eddie hummed as he placed his hands on yours to maneuver them into the correct positions. The pace of your breathing quickened slightly as his calloused fingers held onto your hands. He brought your right hand to the center of the guitar, hovering over the strings, and your left hand up to the top of the guitar’s neck. “There, lookin’ good already.”
“Um, thanks,” you mumbled, coughing to clear any immediate sounds of hidden arousal from your voice.
“Alright,” Eddie sighed as he sat back down and picked up the guitar. “Do you have literally any guitar experience?” You thought for a quick second before shaking your head no. “Don’t worry, we can work with that,” Eddie assured you. “I’ll just have to start with the basics.”
The remainder of the lesson was overwhelming. Eddie was a much different teacher than you had expected. The way he talked carefully, yet not condescendingly, or the pleased look on his face, when you got it right, made your heart flutter and your cheeks redden. Moreover, Eddie’s constant gentle touches of your skin and the physical encouragements of patting your shoulder or ruffling your hair left an insistent heat in your body as the lesson wound down. Either he didn’t realize what effects his actions were having or he knew all too well, and you weren’t sure which was worse.
“I think that’s about as much as we can cover right now,” Eddie said, as he relaxed his hands from the position of an A chord. You blinked a couple of times before setting your borrowed guitar down next to you.
“Sounds good, man,” you replied, trying your best to keep a level voice as you allowed the excitement of the lesson to begin to die down.
“So,” Eddie started. “You said you’ve never really played before. So why start now?” You quickly scrambled to think of an answer that didn’t involve you or a guy I like.
“There’s just someone I met recently, and I thought, ya know, that it might be nice to-” Eddie cut you off.
“So, it’s for a girl?” He smiled. His face didn’t look like one of mockery, more just playful curiosity. You paused before saying,
“Yeah, it’s for a girl.”
“Don’t worry, man, I’ll teach you some of those pop love songs girls like, and you can woo her all you want,” Eddie laughed, crossing his arms across his chest.
“Actually,” you smiled, crossing your arms as well. “I kinda think she’d be more into rock music. I’ve heard that’s kinda her thing.”
“Oh, well rock music, I can certainly teach,” Eddie responded. “That’s gotta be almost all my tapes by now.” Eddie reached into his pocket as he spoke, pulling out a small white stick that took you a moment to recognize. Eddie noticed you staring at it. “Oh shit, sorry man, you smoke?”
“Oh, yeah, of course, I do,” you lied. You were almost confident Eddie would have been chill if you said you didn’t smoke, but at some level, you wanted him to think you were cool in some way. Eddie smiled before picking up a lighter you hadn’t noticed off the floor and lighting the joint. The smell was almost immediately suffocating and you had to fight hard not to cough. Eddie was barely phased as he breathed in the smoke. He offered you the joint, a small smile on his face. You took it from his hand, not quite sure how to hold it but doing your best to mimic what you saw him do. You brought it up to your lips and did your best to take the smoke into your mouth without actually breathing it in.
Alas, your attempt failed, and a large cloud of smoke entered your lungs and immediately burned your throat. Not even your best attempt could keep you from coughing. You extended your arm away from you and practically thrust the joint back to Eddie as you coughed harder than you could ever remember having done. Through your coughs, you could hear Eddie cackle behind you and feel his hand rest on your shoulder.
“You don’t actually smoke, do you,” he asked. There was no more hiding it, you shook your head as your choking began to die down. “Don’t worry about it, man, it’s not for everyone.” He patted your back, like a mother helping a child clear their lungs, and opened the van door a crack to air out the space before sitting back down.
“How ‘bout you head back home and get some fresh air?” Eddie suggested. “Find me during lunch tomorrow and we can talk about setting up another lesson, ok?” You nodded enthusiastically, the occasional cough still blocking your speech as you got up to leave the van. Eddie smiled as you stepped down. “See you later, L/N.”
You giggled quietly to yourself as Eli struggled to support you and unlock the front door to your apartment at the same time. You put your hand on Eli’s chest, both to hold yourself to him and just to touch him.
“So grabby tonight,” Eli remarked playfully as he finally pushed the door open.
“Well,” you hiccuped. “Not my fault you’re really grabbable.” Eli shoved the keys back into his pocket before wrapping his arms around your waist to drag you into the apartment. You laughed out loud as he pulled you forward.
Eli led you to the couch and sat you down.
“Alright, just stay here for a minute,” he said as he began to walk away.
“Noooo,” you groaned as you stood to follow him, grabbing the back of his shirt.
“Babe,” he laughed, turning to take a hold of your hand. “I’m just gonna lock the door and grab you some water, ok? I’m not going anywhere.” You narrowed your eyes as you looked at him, and continued to hold tight to him. “Alright, fine, I guess you can come.” A smile grew on your face and you leaned against him as he walked forward.
Eli stayed true to what he said, he locked the door and walked to the kitchen. He reached into the cabinet to pull a glass down and filled it with water from the tap. Your steps faltered as you followed him, holding tight to his free hand and allowing him to lead you.
“Here you go,” Eli offered as he turned around to hand you the glass of water. You eagerly took it and swallowed the entire contents of the glass. When you finished, you placed the cup on the counter, Eli’s hand hovering just below yours in case you missed.
After you placed the glass on the counter, you stepped, almost fell forward, and wrapped your arms around Eli.
“Hmm, I love you,” you hummed as you nuzzled your cheek into his shoulder.
“I love you too, but come on, let’s get you to bed, princess,” Eli chuckled, using your hold on him to lead you through the small apartment. As Eli walked with you, you turned your head up to him and gazed at his eyes.
“You look really pretty right now,” you whispered almost inaudibly, a smile ghosting on your lips. Eli smiled in response, turning to place a small kiss to the side of your head.
Eli stopped short of the door, pausing to open it, before continuing inside. He sat you down on the edge of the bed before reaching to remove your coat. He slipped the thick fabric off your shoulders, pressing another small kiss to your head as he leaned down. He placed the jacket on the opposite end of the bed, just barely hanging off the edge.
“I’m sure these have been killing you,” Eli guessed as he kneeled down to slip your heeled shoes off your feet. “They look killer, but they probably feel terrible.” He placed the shoes off the side, being sure to be careful as he knew the pair was one of your favorites.
“And you, Miss Y/N, should try to get some sleep,” Eli said as he gently pushed your shoulder to get you to lean back into the bed.
“Can you stay?” You asked as you allowed yourself to be pushed back onto the bed.
“Was planning on it,” he responded, walking over to the other side of the bed to sit next to you. “Now go to bed.” A smile was on his face as he brushed a stray piece of hair out of your face.
“Okay,” you smiled lovingly at him as you closed your eyes.
Music raged through the house as you wandered through the hall of Vance’s house. People you didn’t know crowded you but the familiar sight of those you did was enough to quell any social anxiety you might have. You made your way to the kitchen, your eyes searching for Vance as you entered the room. A few people stood before you, holding cups or conversing, among them stood a familiar face framed by unruly blonde curls.
Vance stood with his back leaned against the counter, a cup in his hand that he slowly sipped at. A small group of people was gathered around him, talking, but Vance made no motion to contribute to the conversation. When his eyes slowly looked moved to look at you, a small smile crosses his face and he nodded his head to motion you over. You returned the smile and made your way over to the group, slotting yourself beside Vance.
“Was wondering when you would find your way over here,” Vance chuckled quietly to you. “This is so fuckin' boring.”
“You don’t have to keep standing here,” you pointed out, nudging him with your elbow. Vance furrowed his eyebrows a little before shrugging his shoulders.
“Yeah, guess you’re right,” he sighed. He placed the cup on the counter behind him in favor of placing his hands in his pockets. “I can feel the place dying down anyways. You wanna stay after?”
“Always do,” you responded, going to follow him. “Didn’t plan on changin’ this time.” Vance made his way to the couch, you following close behind, and you both sat. The party continued to mill around you, but you could definitely tell it was dying. People trickled out the door and conversation was leveling off.
---
As the last person waved goodbye and made their way out the door, Vance turned to you.
“Ugh, I was waiting for them to leave, that shit was gettin' painful,” he huffed, slouching against the couch cushion behind him.
“You didn’t have to throw the party if you were gonna hate it that much,” you pointed out, joining him in leaning against the wall. Vance gave a shrug in response.
“Yeah, I guess, you know how they can be, though,” he sighed, his voice maintaining a monotonous tone. You glanced him up and down, taking in all of Vance’s subtle ques you had learned to pick up over the years.
“Yeah, I know. But come on, you look like you’re ready to pass out. Maybe it’s time to go to bed,” you suggested, reaching forward to take his hand. Vance allowed you to take a hold of him, squeezing your hand back as you began to lead him upstairs. You could hear Vance fail to suppress a yawn behind you as you ascended the stairs and you smiled to yourself as you stopped the two of you in front of his bedroom. You opened the door and led him inside, letting go of his hand to allow him to go to his bed. You had set up your normal sleeping bag on the floor before the party had begun, so you walked over to it and sat down on top of it.
“Now, come on, go to sleep before you become even more bitchy,” you joked at Vance as you slid into your sleeping bag. Vance huffed at you in a light-hearted tone before he threw back the blankets on his bed and crawled onto the mattress.
“See ya in the morning, shithead,” Vance yawned as he stretched out across his mattress.
“Until tomorrow, loser,” you responded, closing your eyes to drift into sleep.
---
The clock read 4:12 as you shot up in your sleeping bag, a cold sweat covering your body. The only break from the chills was hot tears running down your cheeks. Your breathing was heavy and rapid, the lack of oxygen causing your head to feel light. You reached up your hand to run through your hair.
“Y/N?” You heard Vance’s sleepy voice ask as he slowly sat up. You looked over at him, only just starting to calm the anxieties from your nightmare.
“Sorry,” you apologized quietly. You tried your best to take a couple of deep breaths, to stop hyperventilating, but it was difficult.
“Everything ok?” Vance asked, his voice getting more clear as he started to wake up more.
“Yeah, it was just a stupid dream,” you assured him, using your shirt to wipe the sweat from your face. Vance huffed quietly before he threw the blankets off him.
“Come here,” he sighed, holding his arms out to you. It took your brain a couple of seconds to process before you realized what he was offering.
“You sure?” You confirmed as you went to stand up.
“Look man, you wanna come over here or not?” Vance grumbled, his normal, gruff voice coming through. You laughed quietly before you fully stood up and walked over to him.
You knelt on the bed and lay down on the mattress, shuffling close to Vance. He eagerly wrapped his arms around you and rest his chin on top of your head. Vance’s body heat surrounding you was already inducing an air of sleep around you.
“Now just get some damn sleep,” Vance sighed as you felt him relax around you. You smiled against Vance and reached out your arms to settle around him.
“Alright, I love you, now go to sleep,” Vance yawned, sleepiness apparent in his voice again.
“Ok,” you sighed. “I love you too.”
The next day, you walked to school with a new air of excitement. You had something new to look forward to after school and you could barely think of anything else. You happily listened to your walkman on the bus. You had meant to go to the store yesterday to pick up some tapes, maybe something metal like Lucas said Eddie liked to play, but you didn’t have time. Instead, you were listening to a David Bowie album, which you couldn’t say you were upset about.
Your first classes felt slow. This was just how they always felt. You had English, science, and history. After lunch, you would have gym, wood shop, and math. You weren’t particularly enthused about wood shop, but it was that or Home Ec, and you didn’t even want to imagine what people would say if you took Home Ec. English was a work day for a paper due in a couple of weeks, but you were ahead on the assignment, so you just took the time to relax. Science was continuing a lecture about covalent bonds you had started on Monday, which wasn’t uninteresting, just a little difficult to keep up with. History felt the longest, learning about King Charles the First wasn’t particularly exciting to you today.
When the bell rang to end history and to usher you to lunch, you happily sprang up, your bag already packed and headed to the lunch room. You took your seat at your usual table. You were the second person to arrive. Chance had a class next door to the cafeteria, so he was usually the first to arrive. He gave you a friendly nod but focused on his food. You watched the door as people entered the cafeteria, on the lookout for one man in particular. A small smile pulled at your lips as you saw Eddie enter the cafeteria with his group of friends. They all congregated around him, eager to be in his presence, a sentiment you understood.
Beside him, you saw Lucas, who waved a quick goodbye to the group before walking towards your table. He must have noticed your staring because you could see him laughing as he approached.
“I wouldn’t say you’re the king of subtlety,” Lucas joked as he sat in the seat next to you.
“Shut up,” you mumbled, a little embarrassed at having been caught staring.
“You definitely look excited,” Lucas noticed, shifting the subject to something more relevant. You gave him a nod and let your gaze shift back to the other table. Eddie and his friends were happily chatting away, laughing at their own jokes. “Maybe sometime, you could join when I sit with them.”
Your eyes went wide and your face blushed as you turned to Lucas. You sputtered, not quite sure what to say.
“Doesn’t Eddie hate basketball players?” You pointed out, trying to subtly weasel your way out of sitting with your crush.
“He talked to you easy enough,” Lucas argued, causing you to shrink a little in embarrassment.
“I kinda took off my jacket when I talked to him so he wouldn’t know,” you said sheepishly. Lucas gave you a slightly annoyed expression.
“Come on, man. I just wanted a chance to talk without that being the only thing he saw me as,” you explained. Lucas’s expression turned to one more understanding.
“Yeah, I guess I get it, Eddie definitely has…opinions,” Lucas hummed, glancing over to the other table.
“I wish I could just talk to him without having to pretend, but I guess it’s not too bad,” you said. Talking to Eddie would be a lot harder if you were as well-known a player as Jason, but you often spent most of your time in the middle ranks of the team, so that wasn’t a concern.
“I mean, I play too and me and Eddie are still friends. You won’t have to pretend the whole time,” Lucas pointed out.
“Meh, you’re probably right,” you agreed, leaning back slightly in your seat.
Suddenly, you felt Lucas grab a hold of your collar and pull you back to the table, bringing your head down below normal level.
“Sinclair, what the hell?” You asked quietly, your tone annoyed.
“You said you didn’t want Eddie to know you’re on the team yet, he was about to look over here,” Lucas explained, only releasing your collar when he saw Eddie look away from the table. You gave Lucas a thankful look as you straightened up.
“Thank you, but I also appreciate not being suffocated by a 14-year-old,” you laughed, rubbing your neck despite feeling no pain.
You saw Jason looking at the pair of you quizzically. You gave him a shrug like you didn’t quite know what that was about, and went back to your food.
“You’ll have to spill the beans tomorrow. I gotta leave early to get to class.” Lucas stood up from the table, grabbing his trash and slinging his bag over his shoulder.
“See ya man,” you said as you waved at Lucas. You could feel Jason’s eyes boring into the side of your head, but you made no indication you noticed.
“What’s happening?” Jason asked now that Lucas was out of the cafeteria.
“Nothing special, just something me and my cousin are doing,” you responded, your expression blank.
“Why would Lucas care about that?” Jason asked again.
“Just drop it,” you said bluntly, standing up from the table. “You wouldn’t care anyway.” That was a lie, Jason absolutely would care. He would hate it. Under your annoyed exterior, you felt your stress levels rising. You knew you would be in deep shit if your friends found out. They would call you a faggot, or find some stupid reason to get you kicked off the basketball team. You didn’t want to risk even any suspicion.
Your anxiety was high as you continued to your next class, and it stayed that way throughout the day. Part of it was the fun kind of anxiety, the nerves you get before doing something exciting, the other part of it was terrifying, the nerves you get when you’re scared someone will find out you’re doing something you shouldn’t be. The bell signaling the end of the day sent your heart fluttering as it rang. You quickly picked your bag up off the ground and took off towards the cafeteria. Your long legs carried you through the hallways as you moved against the flow of the crowd. You had already taken off your jacket in math, telling Jason you were hot when he looked at you with a quirked brow.
You slid around the corner, entering the doors of the cafeteria with a bead of sweat beginning to form on your brow. When you looked up, you could see Eddie Munson sitting at his normal table. He held a magazine in his hands and his feet were propped up on the table, his ankles crossed. You took a deep breath and approached him.
“Hey Munson,” you called out to him, doing your best to maintain an air of relaxed confidence.
“Y/N,” Eddie greeted in response. “Figured I’d be waiting a bit.”
“Meh, my class is only a couple of doors down,” you lied, shrugging. You weren’t exactly trying to tell Eddie you ran to meet him like there was no tomorrow.
Eddie gave you a small smile before taking his feet down from the table and standing up. Picking up his backpack from the floor, he placed the magazine inside and slung the bag over his shoulder. He began to walk out of the cafeteria, motioning his head for you to follow. You obliged, following about four feet behind. You were going to be taking music lessons from Eddie, but you had no idea what that would entail. Would you be going to his house? Your heart raced at the thought of being at Eddie’s house. What would it look like? Who did he live with? Maybe his mom and dad? Did he have pets?
Your racing thoughts of Eddie Munson were only interrupted when your chest ran into Eddie’s extended forearm. Your eyes widened and a blush crosses your face as you looked up. When your eyes actually focused on your surroundings, you noticed you were about two steps from walking into the window beside the exterior doors. Eddie had held out his arm to stop you from banging into the glass.
“Bit distracted today?” Eddie giggled, letting his arms drop back to his side.
“Just, uh, lost in thought,” you responded, doing your best to play it off. Eddie’s eyebrow quirked, but not in the meanspirited way Jason might, but rather a more playful one.
“Come on,” Eddie sighed with a smile. Stepping aside to let you get back on the correct path. You stepped out through the door, then wait for Eddie just outside, leaning against the brick. As Eddie stepped through the door, his eyes crinkled in the sunlight. The rays bounced off his dark brown curls, shining in a way you had never really seen before. You stood captivated as Eddie took a second to adjust to the light. Eddie shook out his curls a little, bringing you back to reality. Eddie began to walk down the steps toward the parking lot and you followed close behind.
Eddie’s van was the only one left in the lot, standing lonely in the shade of a tree on the edge of the asphalt. Eddie jogged up to it, not so subtly trying to beat you to the car. He pulled a key from his pocket and unlocked the back door, opening them only enough to slip inside before closing them again. You paused your steps around five feet from the van, waiting for Eddie to reemerge. You could hear the faint sounds of movement from inside before Eddie flung the doors open again.
The inside was cleaner than you expected, but even from where you were standing, you could smell weed. You walked closer to inspect a bit further. Inside were two black milk crates, which appeared to be makeshift chairs. Leaned against the back of the car’s actual seats were two guitars. One was a simpler one with a white finish while the other was black and decorated with various designs that appeared to be hand-drawn. There were a couple of books by one of the crates and a closed bag resting under the other.
Eddie had taken a seat on the milk crate near the books and had picked up the black guitar. He fiddled with the strings before shaking his head and setting it in his lap.
“Well, what are ya waiting for?” Eddie called to you. “Hop on up.”
You looked across the lunchroom, searching. You felt your eyes light up as you spot the Hellfire club’s table. At the head of the table sat Eddie Munson, a beautiful ball of energy decorated in jean jackets and dark brown curls. You watched with interest as he talked to the freshman at his table, waving his hands wildly as he spoke. His voice was loud but it was hard to hear what exactly the words he was saying were.
“Y/N? You with us, man?” Jason asked, snapping his fingers in your face. You blinked a couple of times, bringing yourself out of your trance to look at him.
“Yeah, just spacin’,” you replied, shifting slightly in your seat and looking back to your lunch.
“Ok, well, don’t go too far, we need you alert for practice later,” Jason reminded you, his tone a bit ruder than you thought was necessary. You might have thought twice about joining the basketball team if you knew Jason was going to be like this.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t worry about it,” you spat back, looking down at your food, a sandwich, and a bag of generic brand chips. Jason was annoyed with the way you spoke to him, but he didn’t say anything more, which you were thankful for. You picked at your chips, allowing your eyes to wander back over to Eddie’s table. He was laughing, his eyes shut and his smile wide. It was infectious, you could feel the corner of your mouth upturn slightly. You wished you were sitting at that table, listening to their conversation, getting to laugh at their jokes, just being able to exist next to Eddie. You heard a quiet laugh next to you.
You were once again pulled back to the table and looked next to you. There sat Lucas Sinclair, his eyes also glued to Eddie’s table. He stiffened slightly as he saw you staring and looked at you with wide eyes. His cheeks darkened with embarrassment. You shit him a smile telling him it was ok.
“I get it,” you whispered, quiet enough that only Lucas would hear. Lucas smiled.
“He is pretty cool, wish I could sit at that table. The rest of my friends sit over there,” Lucas explained, his eyes moving towards two, presumably freshman, boys sitting at Eddie’s table. “I heard him play guitar once, he’s actually pretty good.”
“He plays guitar?” You asked, your mind now filling with images of Eddie on a stage, performing his heart out.
“Yeah, it’s mostly metal. I like it,” Lucas said, now curious about your sudden interest in Eddie.
“Oh ok, not really my thing,” you said hurriedly, trying to squash any suspicions of any feelings you might harbor towards Eddie. You hadn’t really listened to metal, so you couldn’t quite say if it was your thing. Suddenly, an idea came to you. Eddie plays guitar and is pretty good according to Lucas. Maybe he can teach it.
The bell to signify the end of lunch rang and students began to stand to head to their classes.
“Thanks, Sinclair. See you at practice,” you smiled, standing from your seat. Lucas looked a little confused at what you were thanking him for, but shrugged his shoulders and nodded at you as you’re welcome. You stood at your table, looking at Eddie out of the corner of your eye. He always took a bit longer to file out of the lunch room. You waited until your team had walked away from the table, then shrugged off your letterman jacket, leaving only your blue long-sleeved shirt, and shoved it in your bag. You had heard the things Eddie said about the kids on the school sports teams, and you didn’t want to risk a bad first impression.
You threw your backpack onto your shoulder and began to walk in the direction of Eddie’s table. He was still packing up, but you walked quickly, not wanting to miss him. You quickly ran through ways to start the conversation in your head. Before you had time to firmly settle on an option, you were already at the end of the table. Eddie didn’t look up towards you, probably just assuming you were walking past. You took a deep breath and approached him, shoving your hands in your pants pockets to hide how fidgety they were.
“Uh, hey. It’s Eddie, right?” You greeted as you approached. Of course, you already knew his name, but it seemed as good a way as any to start. Eddie looked up to you, a little surprised you were talking to him but responded nonetheless.
“Yeah. What’s up?” He asked, resting his chin on his fist as he looked up at you. You could feel a heat climbing in your cheeks.
“I, um, heard you play guitar. People say you’re pretty good.” Any of the confidence you had before the conversation started was shattered as you realized just how hard it was to talk to someone you were crushing on.
Eddie smiled a bit in a confused manner.
“I do, great to hear people think I’m good,” he responded with a small laugh at the end of his sentence. The relaxed tone of his voice made you calm a little bit, but it didn’t make your next question feel any less embarrassing.
“Well, I was wondering if maybe you could…teach me?” You cringed slightly as you asked. You knew Eddie could see the blush on your face from the way his gaze quickly darted to just below your eyes. Eddie’s smile now looked less confused.
“You got a guitar?” He asked.
“I can get one.”
“Hmm, meet me after school tomorrow. Here.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I would say today, but I’ve got a club thing.” You smiled a bit more widely than you intended, but Eddie seemed to share your enthusiasm.
“Never had anyone ask me to teach them guitar before,” he remarked, getting up from his seat.
“Someone had to do it,” you laughed with a shrug, trying your best to joke with him despite your lingering nerves.
“Until tomorrow,” Eddie said, giving you a two-finger salute. You nodded with a smile and mimicked the gesture.
The rest of the day, your thoughts were filled with thoughts of Eddie. You wondered what it sounded like when he played, how his arms looked as he held the guitar, what those hands would feel like on you. Your face grew hot at the last thought. God, why were you thinking this way about a guy? You didn’t want to imagine how everyone would look at you if they knew. How would Eddie look at you? You looked back up at the board which was now filled with math equations you had missed. You hurriedly wrote them down, trying to tune back into what the teacher was saying. You looked to your right, where Jason sat a couple of seats over. He didn’t write anything down. With his skills on the team, he never really had to worry about his grades.
You felt a little jealous, you wished you could be that carefree. Once again, the bell rang, this time signaling the end of the day. Jason smiled and glanced at you. Practice was one of his favorite parts of the day. You gave a smile back and began to pack up. You carefully placed your notebook and pencil case in your bag, both wanting to be careful and to take your time so you didn’t have to walk with Jason to the gym. To your annoyance, Jason walked over to your desk and waited for you to finish.
“You a bit more with us now?” He asked, referencing your spacing out at lunch.
“Awake and alert, captain,” you responded, giving the same two-finger salute you and Eddie had exchanged, but less enthusiastic. Jason gave a nod and followed you as you walked out of the room and towards the gym. Jason talked a lot, but he didn’t really say much. He talked about a basketball game he had seen on TV, he talked about a date he and Chrissy had gone on, and he talked about how he was almost failing Mr. Richter’s English class, but you both knew that didn’t really matter.
As you walked into the gym, you sped up a bit slightly to go get changed. The coach had been on you lately about being late to practice, so you always hurried along to be early. You found your locker and pulled off your shirt, exchanging it for your jersey. You did the same with your jeans, and you already had on your shoes. You shoved everything inside and closed the locker before rushing out into the main gym. Jason and Lucas were already there and ready while everyone else was either still filtering in or changing, you had even beat coach.
Lucas perked up a bit as he saw you enter the gym and walked over to you.
“Hey, Y/N,” he greeted, holding out his hand for a high five which you happily reciprocated. “You’re finally early today.” You laughed with him, your lateness was always more of an annoyance than something you were embarrassed about, so you weren’t mad Lucas was joking about it.
“It was bound to happen eventually,” you responded, giving a casual shrug. Lucas stared at you, a question behind his gaze, but one he didn’t ask. Instead, he asked, “wanna toss a couple baskets before coach comes?”
“Got nothing better to do, Sinclair,” you chuckled, grabbing a ball from the rack on the wall and dribbling it on the way back to Lucas.
You and Lucas tossed around the ball for a bit, joking with each other and testing out moves you had seen during yesterday’s game. Coach entering the gym quickly ceased your conversation and you and the rest of the team lined up against the wall as you waited for practice to begin. The practice was a pretty standard one, you ran laps and tossed around the ball. Coach always had new ways for you all to train and you had to admit you enjoyed the variety. Usually, you found yourself practicing with Josh or Andy, but today you found yourself gravitating towards Lucas. Josh or Andy didn’t particularly seem mad you didn’t engage with them today, so you didn’t feel bad.
After practice concluded, you walked to the locker and grabbed your things. You stuffed your day clothes in your backpack, resolving to walk home in your uniform and shower when you got there. Your locker was positioned rather away from the others, so you were surprised to see Lucas walk over to you.
“Hey, man, what’s up?” You asked, closing your locker and slinging your bag over your shoulder.
“I saw you were talking to Eddie in the lunchroom earlier,” Lucas said, leaning against the rack of lockers. “Everything good? I mean, you two aren’t really in the same crowd I don’t think.” Your face flushed at the realization someone had seen you talk to Eddie.
“Oh, I, um, just needed to ask him something. It wasn’t that big a deal,” you explained, hurriedly explaining so Lucas would drop the subject.
“I know he’s kind of weird, but you guys don’t gotta give him shit for it,” Lucas said with a slightly sad tone. Oh. Lucas hadn’t suspected what you thought he did, he thought you were making fun of Eddie.
“It wasn’t that,” you replied, sitting on the bench behind you. “Far from it rather.” Lucas looked intrigued by your response and sat next to you. You remembered the way Lucas had cringed when he heard Jason call a guy from the art club a fag on Tuesday, so you felt a bit more safe talking about this kind of thing, and you so badly wanted to talk about it.
“I heard you said he played guitar so I asked him about it,” you explained. “Asked him if he could teach me. He said he could, we’re gonna meet tomorrow.” Lucas gave an enthusiastic smile.
“Oh, that’s cool! Didn’t take you for the musical type,” Lucas laughed, elbowing your shoulder playfully.
“I don’t know, never really thought about it.” This was partially true, you always felt a slight pull towards music, but sports just ended up being something you loved more.
“You’ll have to show me something when you learn,” Lucas beamed.
“Oh trust me, you’re not gonna hear the end of it,” you said, happy to be able to talk about this kind of stuff. With that, Lucas said goodbye and exit the locker room, presumably heading home. You smiled to yourself and went to exit the gym, stopping quickly to look in the mirror. You looked tired and sweaty, you were looking forward to getting to shower. You smiled to yourself, feeling the anticipation for tomorrow beginning to build.
Description: Y/N goes with Vance's mother to visit him at the hospital
The memory of seeing the news on the TV replayed in your mind as you sat on the curb. You held your hands close to your chest and breathed deeply, looking down both ends of the street. The night you had heard, you had called Vance’s mom. You felt a little bad that it had taken you over an hour to remember to call her, but you figured it was better than not calling at all. When she picked up the phone, she was nearly inconsolable.
She sobbed heavily and you could tell even over the phone she could barely breathe. It took five minutes of just sitting on the phone, listening to her cry for her to even be able to speak a greeting. When you said hello, she began to cry more. Knowing you understood how she felt, that you loved Vance almost as much as she did, gave her the safety to let her emotions continue to flow. On that same phone call, she had promised you that she would bring you to the hospital with her as soon as visitors were allowed. You knew she would be allowed to visit sooner than you since she was his mother, but you still appreciated her thinking of you.
Today was the first day that you would be allowed to visit and Vance’s mom had promised to pick you up on her way to the hospital. Your chest was filled with so many emotions, a combination of sadness, anger, and guilt, and at the same time, you felt blank. You were nervous to see Vance even though you felt you desperately needed to see him. You had been preparing yourself for months of the possibility of Vance’s death, and now he was alive, and he was a mere four miles away.
You stood up quickly as you heard the sound of a car rounding the corner. You recognized the shining blue tint of Ms. Hopper’s car as she pulled up to your driveway. She came to a stop and rolled down her window. She stuck her head out, a cigarette between her lips.
“You ready, honey?” She asked, a sad tone in her voice. You nodded your head quickly and approached the car. You waited for her to unlock it with your hand on the handle and entered the smoky car.
You knew Ms. Hopper to be a fan of loud, overpowering music, but today the car was silent. She took another drag from her cigarette, breathing out with the weight of the world on her shoulders. When she saw the way your eyes began to tear up at the increasing smoke in the car, she rolled down her window with a “sorry sweetheart.” Sure, some of your tears were from the smoke entering your eyes but it was also from the emotion overwhelming your soul. What were you gonna say to Vance when you saw him? Would you even need to say anything?
Ms. Hopper pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, tapping the remains of her smoked cigarette in the ashtray on the center console. She leaned back over her seat and grabbed her purse and then leaned forward again to turn off the car, placing the keys in her bag. She quickly looked at herself in the rearview mirror before opening her door to exit the car. When you noticed her moving, you followed her lead and exit the car, closing the door behind you. Ms. Hopper crossed to the front of the car and held out her hand to you. You took another deep breath and stepped forward to take it.
Her brow was furrowed as she led you to the main doors of the hospital, but every time she looked back at you, her face was nothing but kind. When you entered the main doors, recognition crossed the receptionist's face as she saw Ms. Hopper.
“Got another visitor today?” The receptionist commented, pulling out a sheet of blank name tags from her desk. She scribbled Ms. Hopper’s name on one tag, handing it to her, and then looked at you expectantly.
“Y/N,” you answered her silent question. “L/N.” The same as with Ms. Hopper, the receptionist wrote down your name on the tag and slid it across the desk to you. You glanced up at Ms. Hopper before peeling the name tag off the backing and sticking it to the front of your shirt.
Now having been checked in, Ms. Hopper once again began to lead you down the hall, her expression beginning to slowly fall as she grew closer to Vance’s room. Her stride eventually stopped outside a room almost at the end of the hall.
“Just so you know,” Ms. Hopper started. “He’s not in the best shape right now.” She let go of your hand in favor of holding it to her chest while she turned the doorknob.
“Hey sweetheart,” she said quietly as she slowly entered the room. “How are you feeling today?” You heard a quiet grunt from inside the room in response. “If you’re feeling up to it, someone’s here to see you.” There was a moment of silence before Ms. Hopper turned her head back to you.
“Come on in, dear,” she smiled as she stepped into the room. You cautiously stepped forward and peeked your head around the door. Ms. Hopper had taken a seat in a chair in the corner and she looked at you with gentle eyes as you entered the room. Once you had fully entered the room, you gently closed the door behind you and allowed yourself to finally look at the man in the center of the room. Vance’s eyes were wide as he looked at you like you were somehow the last person he was expecting to enter his hospital room. As you examined him, you realized Ms. Hopper really wasn’t exaggerating when she said he was in bad shape. Bruises decorated what exposed skin you could see and bandages were wrapped all around him. Vance’s face flushed as you examined him.
“It’s not that big a deal,” he muttered, trying to play off his condition. Fidgeting with your hands, you approached Vance. Your eyes fell to a chair next to his bed and you looked down at him for permission to sit. After he gave a simple nod to you, you sat, trying your best to look at him but suddenly finding it difficult to maintain eye contact.
“Sorry I’ve been gone,” Vance almost whispered, trying to find some conversation to fill the space.
“Don’t say that, it’s not your fault,” you snapped back, a little louder than you intended, a blush of your own crossing your face when you heard yourself. “If anyone should be sorry, it’s me. I wasn’t there. The one day I wasn’t with you, and you get…” You couldn’t get yourself to finish your sentence.
“I wouldn’t exactly say it’s your fault either,” Vance chuckled. “It’s all that fucker’s fault.” Vance still being himself right now couldn’t help but pull a laugh from you.
“Yeah, it is, isn’t it?” You chuckled, allowing a small wave of relief to wash over your body before it was gone. “Vance, are you really ok?” Vance looked at you, his eyebrows furrowed. He looked down at himself, then back at you. He then silently extended his hand, his knuckles scratched and bruised, and waited for you to take it. It wasn’t until you placed your hand in the soft warmth of Vance’s that you truly realized how much you had needed this, until the tears started to flow down your face, and you squeezed his fingers in between yours.
“Vance,” you sobbed quietly as you did your best to hold his hand gently.
“Come here,” Vance sighed happily as he pulled your hand to bring your body down to his. You could hear him grunt quietly in pain as he wrapped his arms around your back to hold you to him, but in this small moment, you didn’t quite care. The feeling of Vance’s arms around you and burying your face in his neck dominated all other emotions you might be feeling at this moment.
“God I missed you,” you laughed through your sobs as you tried to lean even closer into him.
“Well, now I’m here,” he assured you, gently running his fingers through your hair. “I’m right here.”
A/N: hope you guys enjoyed! I put off my lab report for a bit making this but I think it was worth it
You stared up at the ceiling, your breath caught in your chest. No matter how hard you tried, the air stayed in your lungs. Your eyes stung but you felt oddly blank. It almost felt like you were on pause, like the second you dared to move or even think, the floodgates would break. Tonight, the news had broken that Finney Blake had been found and that the Grabber was dead. While the town was in a state of celebration, it was also in one of mourning. Five children had died, and their deaths weighed heavily on your soul, but one stood out.
Vance Hopper was one of the most important people in your life. Even now that he was gone, you could still see the way the sunshine reflected off his blonde hair or the way he would press a quick kiss to your cheek when he knew no one was watching. The same Vance Hopper that had once held your hand as you walked through the halls of your high school now lay dead in a cemetery, the world continuing to move without him. It just wasn’t fair. Vance’s being still echoed in your mind and, despite his fate, he called out to you.
The soft glow of the moonlight lit up the forest around you. Tall trees towered over and around you, protecting you from wandering eyes. You and Vance sat on the edge of the dock overlooking the small lake, listening to the ambient sounds of nature around you. Vance didn’t say anything, instead holding your hand as he closed his eyes. He leaned back slightly, his face looking up to the sky. The light of the night sky truly did him justice.
The light bounced off his pale skin, making it look flawless in the night. The way the light breeze ruffled his hair and his small smile was more than enough to make your heart swell. Vance’s soft smile upturned slightly and he giggled quietly.
“I can feel you staring,” he chuckled, opening one eye to look at you.
“Well, it’s hard not to,” you argued with a smile. You could see a small blush on his face, but his smooth expression didn’t falter.
“Oh shut it, smooth talker,” he teased, leaning back even further to rest on his side, propped up on his elbow.
As Vance gazed out over the small body of water, he looked so peaceful, like he had never been the angry, violent boy everyone saw him as. You leaned back off the dock, your hand reaching across the grassy forest floor behind you. Your fingers carefully searched the ground before they pulled something free from the ground. When you sat back up, in your hands lay a small cluster of bluebells attached to a singular green stem.
“Stay still,” you said quietly to Vance as you leaned toward him. Vance looked a little confused, but upon spotting the flower in your hand, smiled warmly and stayed still.
You gently pushed Vance’s hair behind his ear and placed the flower. The contrast between his golden hair and the blue of the flower was enchanting. You always felt special when Vance let you touch his hair. Vance was always quite prideful in his appearance and you were one of the only people he trusted with it.
“Amazing,” you whispered, a look of pure love etched onto your face. The blush on Vance’s face darkened and he sat up from his lying position.
“You’re one to talk,” he smiled, reaching up to hold your chin in his hand, his thumb running across your lower lip gently. You brought your hand to Vance’s wrist, holding lightly to him as you gazed into his eyes.
You stuck out your tongue slightly and pressed the pad of Vance’s thumb. He laughed and brought his thumb off your lip.
“Fine, yeah.” Vance brought his face closer to yours and allowed his eyes to flicker to your lips. “You can always just say when you want me to kiss you, ya know.”
“Mmm, nah. I like this way better,” you hummed before leaning in to close the gap between you and Vance. You could feel his grin against you as he kissed you. The smell of his sandalwood cologne lulled you into such a peaceful state, you could feel yourself relax into him. Vance pulled away slightly and pressed another kiss to the side of your mouth.
“I know I don’t usually care, but your dad is really gonna kill me if you’re not home soon.”
You could almost feel the pressure of Vance’s lips against yours as you remembered. You turned onto your side and pulled your blankets up to your chin, insulating yourself from everything outside your body. As you moved, the heat of your tears began to streak down your face. You sniffled and turned your face into your pillow, letting it absorb your emotion. You reach up your hand and gingerly ran your hands through your hair, the way Vance used to do when you were upset. What wouldn’t you give to have him there with you? What wouldn’t you give to bury yourself in his arms instead of just your memories?
The hallways were lit with a searing fluorescence that you had grown accustomed to over the years. The mindless chatter of those around you filtered through your ears as you walked beside Vance. He was never one who was eager to fill the silence with conversation and you were ok with that. You noticed Vance seemed a little more vigilant than normal. He glanced around before staring at you and quickly turning away, he seemed hyperaware of everything around him.
“You ok, V?” You asked quietly, startling him out of his small trance.
“Huh? Oh, yeah, whatever,” Vance responded, his tense shoulders relaxing slightly. Vance did one last look around before his eyes settled on you again.
“Hey Y/N?” Vance said softly, slowing his pace. You looked at him expectantly, slowing down to match him. His cheeks were flushed and you could tell he was struggling to get out the words.
“Can I hold your hand?” He asked, timidly extending his palm to you. You took a moment to process his question before smiling widely.
Vance had never been one to show affection in public, so the fact he was asking you to now felt so special. Your heart swelled with love as you nodded and placed your hand in Vance’s. While he still kept a calm expression, you could see a small smile tugging at his lips.
“Always happy to,” you assured him, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. Vance taking this step with you felt extraordinary, how badly you wanted to kiss him, but that would have to wait until later. For now, you were just happy to hold his hand.
Tears tugged at your eyes now that you felt this happy memory was now tainted. You curled into yourself, bringing your knees into your chest as you cried silently, unable to breathe enough air to fill your lungs. Your heart reached out to him, calling out despite knowing a response would never come. God, why couldn’t it have been you instead? Vance didn’t deserve to die, not now, not like that. You didn’t want to live in this town without Vance, this world, this life, but you knew how much it would hurt Vance if something happened to you. Even if he was gone, you couldn’t bring yourself to hurt him.
You sat up in your bed and looked out the window. The moon sat high in the sky, looking down at you. The same moon that once illuminated Vance as he kissed you on the dock. What must it think of you now? The moon looked at you pitifully, both of you instilled with the knowledge that the person you loved most was gone, and he wasn’t coming back.
A/N: Hope you guys enjoyed! Who doesn't love some good old hurt/very slight or no comfort, lets all be sad
I hope you’re doing okay and life is treating you well :) I wanted to say your Paul Dano character x reader stories and your Eli Brooks x reader stories are among my absolute favorites on the entire internet! The amount of detail and love that you put into your writing is so beautiful, and the length of the stories you write for requests is really admirable! Not a lot of people will go anywhere near as above and beyond with the requests they receive like you do. You answered/wrote for one of my requests (an Eli one) a while ago and I go back and reread it quite often, it just makes me so happy :’)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THANK YOU!!! I cannot oversell how happy this makes me! I really love writing this stuff (even if I haven't been active in a bit) and it's incredible to hear you guys like to read it. I'm so happy you enjoyed what I wrote, and I'm honored you trusted me with your idea. I'm in college now and it is really running me through, but rest assured I've been doing my best to write where I can, whether here or on AO3.
I love writing for Eli and I'm always delighted that you guys love to read him. I have a decent number of Eli drafts so I should have those out soon (this message really makes me wanna write right now)
Genuinely thank you all for being with me as I've figured myself out as a writer and for supporting me even when I'm not creating. You all mean so much to me and I'm glad we can share joy in these characters.
The smell of chocolate chip cookies filled Eli’s nose as he entered your house.
“Hey, Y/N,” he called out, setting his bag by the door.
“In here,” you yelled back from the kitchen. Eli made his way into the kitchen and his eyes widened slightly as he saw almost all of the surfaces in the kitchen covered in food. He saw brownies, a cake, blondies, and it looked like you were frosting another batch of sugar cookies.
“Uh, everything ok?” He asked, taking in the slight of you covered in ingredients and your skin sparkling with sweat.
“Perfect. Everything’s absolutely perfect,” you grumbled, not looking up from your work. Eli approached you and lazily slung his arms around your shoulder, his cheek pressing against yours.
“You sure?” He asked again, nuzzling against the soft skin of your face. You huffed, clearly anxious about something.
“I took a test today and I had completely forgotten about it. I didn’t get a chance to study and I’m worried I failed it,” you sighed, giving in the Eli.
“Which subject?”
“Math.”
“Oh.”
“Oh is right.”
“Want some help?”
“Sure.”
Eli brought his arms down from around your shoulder and looked at the cookies. Each was neatly frosted with colorful icing. He picked one up and took a bite.
“If it’s any consolation, these are delicious,” Eli laughed, taking another bite, crumbs falling on his shirt.
“Thanks,” you said, a small smile on your face. “I’ve got some cupcakes in the oven right now, I’m thinking vanilla frosting.”
“Nah, you did vanilla on these ones, you should do chocolate,” Eli hummed, opening your fridge to look at the options. You thought for a moment and nodded.
“In that case, can you grab the jar from the fridge?” You finished frosting the last cookie and placed it back on the tray. Eli walked over and placed the jar in your hand, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“I’m sure you did great,” he whispered against you. “And besides, it’s not the end of the world if Y/N L/N gets a bad grade.” You turned your head to look at him and he pressed a happy kiss to your lips.
“Thanks, sweetheart. Now help me grab these cupcakes.”
A/N: Thanks for reading! I too love baking when I'm stressed (which is totally awesome now that i don't have access to a kitchen) so trust me Y/N I've been there too
Sorry I haven’t said anything for a couple days, but I’m working on a piece I swear. It’s an Eddie Munson x Male Reader where the reader takes music lessons from Eddie (thanks anon for the prompt😌) and for some reason, it’s just got my writing juices flowing. I’m like 2.5k in and I don’t even think I’m halfway done lmao. Since it’s so long, I’ll be posting it in chapters on my other sites and I’ll post the whole thing here when it’s done. It should be a couple more days but I’m speedrunning 🏃♂️💨 I'll try to publish some shorter fics in the meantime so that there's something while I work
Finney felt a new energy fill his soul. The sheer emotion of the five spirits that inhabited the basement coursed through his blood as he held tightly to the phone cord wrapped around the Grabber's neck. Vance stepped towards Finney, an action the smaller boy couldn't see. Vance breathed deeply and rest his hand on Finney's shoulder.
Unlike the other boys who were held to this world by the trauma they experienced and perhaps even some supernatural power the basement possessed, Vance was tethered by pure, unbridled rage. Everything he was forced to endure was seared into his mind, all the pain and the fear and all the things that monster stole from him, and he would be unable to move on until he felt it was righted.
He knelt down next to the struggling form of the younger boy and joined him in gripping tight to the phone cord. In what would be his final act of defiance to his murderer, Vance passed himself to Finney; his anger, his strength, everything that made Vance a force to be reckoned with when he was alive.
He saw it enter Finney's eyes, saw his hands clench tighter to the cord. A completely unknown level of anger entered Finney as Vance lent him everything he had. With Bruce's final remark, both Vance and Finney pulled as hard as they could. The subtle crack from the man behind them let them know they had accomplished their task, that this part was over. Vance turned to Finney, taking a moment to relish in this victory. For a moment, Vance felt like Finney could see him, that he understood.
Maybe he could. Finney gave a nod to Vance with tears beginning to form in his eyes.
"It's over," he whispered, sniffling. "You can go. All of you can." Vance could feel the burn of tears behind his eyes. Even if it wasn't him who did it, the Grabber was dead, and Vance was avenged, though he could never truly scrub himself clean of what he was put through. Vance gave Finney a thankful nod as he felt himself begin to fade. He would never get to go home, he would never get to see his mom or his friends, but he could rest easy knowing he was safe.
More Than Your Friend (Vance Hopper)
Pairing: Vance Hopper x M!Reader (romantic)
Word count: 1183
Description: At a party, Vance drunkenly confesses he likes his best friend, Y/N
“Come on man, it’ll be fun,” Vance assured you as he led you to a stranger’s house. One of Vance’s friends had told him about a party he had heard about around school and invited Vance and you to tag along.
“If you say so,” you shrugged, following behind Vance, looking around at the houses in the neighborhood.
“I do say so,” Vance smiled, his eyes now landing on a house with cars out front and loud music coming from inside. “Here we go.” You looked up at the house and then back down to Vance. This will be fun, you told yourself. I’ll have fun.
Vance motioned for you to follow him into the house, giving a nod to the assumed host as he passed him.
“Alright, let's get this shit started,” Vance laughed as he found his way to the drink table. Vance grabbed two cans of shitty, cheap beer and handed one to you. You didn’t particularly want it, but you took it anyway. You opened the can and slowly sipped at it, despising the taste, while Vance happily drank the whole can in one go.
“Shit dude,” you marveled at Vance’s ability to drink anything and everything. Vance cheered and crushed the can in his hand, tossing it to the side and grabbing another one. “Just don’t pass out on me, I don’t wanna have to drag you home.”
“Ha, I can handle my alcohol perfectly fine, dipshit,” Vance assured you, bumping his can against yours in a toast. You rolled your eyes and followed him as he entered the main crowd of the party. You continued to sip at your drink, trying to hide your face as you tasted it, as Vance walked around greeting people and getting more drinks. On the radio in the living room, you began to hear the intro to a familiar song.
“Dude, is this Sweet?” Vance asked happily, making his way over to the radio. “I fucking love this shit!” You made a small noise of surprise as Vance grabbed you by the wrist to pull you to the center of the living room to dance.
Vance was never particularly good at dancing, per se, but you loved it every time he did. Vance danced wildly to the music, his hair bouncing as he moved. You could see the red blush of alcohol on Vance’s cheeks and you suspected that was why he grew so bold. Vance normally hated dancing in public.
“One quick second,” Vance was near slurring his words. “I’m gonna get another drink, stay right here.”
“You sure that’s a good idea?” You asked, looking at Vance’s current state. “You look pretty out of it.”
“Yeah yeah, it’s just one more,” Vance said, brushing you off.
“No, V, come on, I think you’ve had enough,” you responded, trying to sound authoritative.
“I’m fine, a drink or two won’t hurt,” Vance assured you as he began to walk towards the kitchen. However, the alcohol in Vance’s system was clearly too much. As Vance walked forward, he tripped on the edge of the carpet and fell to the floor, his face hitting the wood with a small thud.
“Oh shit, hey man, you good?” You asked hurriedly as you rushed up to Vance to help him up.
“Ah, fuck, ow,” Vance mumbled, reaching up to feel his nose, which was now starting to leak blood.
“Come on,” you sighed, extending your hand to help Vance stand. “I figured this would happen at some point tonight.” Vance took your hand, clearly a little embarrassed, and allowed you to lead him to the bathroom. You tapped another party-goer on the shoulder and asked if he knew where the bathroom was. He laughed a little at Vance’s current state, but pointed down a nearby hallway and said it was the first door on the left. You thanked him and led Vance by his hand down the hallway, knocking on the door to make sure the bathroom was empty.
You opened the door and thrust Vance inside, locking the door behind the pair of you.
“Alright, take a seat,” you said, gesturing to Vance while you looked in the medicine cabinet for something you could you. Vance sat on the toilet lid and turned to face you, waiting for you to attend to his injuries.
“First of all,” you started, grabbing a piece of toilet paper and wiping the blood off Vance’s face. You lifted his chin so he was looking towards you and gently ran the paper over the bottom half of his face. Blood ran from his nose to dripping off his chin and left a red stain behind even after you had cleaned it.
Vance’s eyes were wide as he watched you and you noticed his blush deepen as your fingers ran over his lips.
“Something wrong?” You asked when you saw his cheeks turn a darker red than they already were. Vance opened his mouth, but then closed it again like he was unsure of what he should say. Vance’s eyes relaxed to their drunken, half-lidded state and he smiled at you.
“You look really pretty right now,” he said with a drunken laugh at the end of his compliment. You felt your face flush and you avoided looking into his gaze.
“Shut up, you’re drunk,” you mumbled, continuing to wipe the blood from Vance’s stained skin.
“Nah, even when I’m not drunk, you always look pretty,” Vance confided, the volume of his voice low so only you could hear.
You knew Vance was drunk, that he probably didn’t know what he was saying and that he certainly wouldn’t remember tomorrow. It hurt though. You had had a crush on Vance for years now, and here he was, calling you pretty like it was nothing.
“I think I’ve liked you since I met you, you’re amazing, Y/N,” Vance said, leaning forward to close some of the distance between you. “I know I’m not supposed to, but it feels so easy when it’s just us. I wish I could love you without it being strange or bad. I wanna be with you, like how the other boys are with their girlfriends. I wish I knew how to tell you that.”
“I don’t think you’ll have to worry about telling me, V,” you smiled as you cleaned the last of the blood off Vance’s face. “What you will have to worry about is leaning back and holding your nose shut.”
Vance obediently leaned back and held his nose closed as he continued to look at you.
“I think I’m in love with you,” Vance whispered, and you could see the beginnings of tears in his eyes. “Please don’t be mad.”
“I’m not mad,” you assured him. “I…I love you too, V, have for quite a while now.” Vance’s expression changed to a wide smile and a couple of tears spilled out of his eyes.
“I think you’ll have to remind me of all this shit when I’m sober,” Vance giggled, leaning his head back against the wall.
“Gladly,” you grinned in response.
You smile as Vance holds tightly onto your hand as you walk the path home. His fingers wrap around yours, encapsulating them in his warmth. He looks down at you, his eyes searching your face, you’ve been off lately and Vance can’t exactly figure out why. As the two of you arrive at your doorstep, he doesn’t release his grip on your hand, stopping you from going inside. You look back at him, confused.
“Mind if I come in?” Vance asks. His voice carries its usual rough tone, but you can sense his embarrassment at asking.
“Yeah, sure,” you answer nonchalantly, holding open the door for Vance. He nods at you, sneaking around you to stand in the entranceway. You take off your shoes by the door and Vance copies your motion. You nod your head towards your room, indicating for him to follow you. You were kind of surprised Vance wanted to stay longer, part of you expected him to drop you off and then leave. Another part was surprised he walked you home at all.
As you walked into your room, you went over to lie on your bed and looked up at Vance, waiting for him to find somewhere. He sat on the bed next to you to your pleasant surprise, resting his head on your shoulder.
“Everything ok?” You ask, leaning into Vance. “Or did you just wanna hang out?” Vance took a deep breath, exhaling thoughtfully.
“You caught me, I did wanna talk about something,” Vance sighed, lifting his head to look at you. A sense of dread filled you, it was happening. You anxiously huddled into yourself, pulling away from Vance.
Vance looked at you sadly as you moved.
“Is something going on with you?” Vance asked, trying his best to sound soft. “You’ve been acting kinda distant lately. I really care about you, I wanna help.” You inhaled, holding your breath as you looked at Vance. You wanted to talk to him, but at the same time, you felt embarrassed. “I love you. If you’re not happy with me anymore, I want you to tell me.” Vance’s face contorted with sadness as he spoke.
“No, no. It’s not that,” you rushed to say, leaning forward to cup his face in your hands, a gesture he gladly accepted.
You hummed quietly, trying to think of the best way to word your thoughts. For quite a while now, you had been feeling out of place in your relationship. Vance was always such a strong person, someone you loved and admired, and you often felt like you paled in comparison to him. You so often felt like you failed to live up to what he needed, what he deserved.
“V, I love you so much, but…but what if I’m not enough?” Your voice grew quiet as your words escaped your lips. You could feel the sting of tears in your eyes and you tried to blink them away, but that only caused them to fall.
Vance’s face fell as he heard you. Never in the entirety of your relationship had Vance, for one second, felt you weren’t enough. Everyday, he was honored that you still wanted to be with him and he was so scared when he felt you pulling away. Vance often felt like he wasn’t enough for you and now he was hearing you felt you had failed him. Vance reached up and gently wiped one of the tears from your cheek. You sniffled and tried your best to stop your tears but the dam had been broken and they didn’t stop.
Suddenly, Vance put his arms around your shoulders and brought you to his chest, pulling you into an embrace. He leaned down and pressed a small kiss to the top of your head.
“You’re always enough,” he choked out, feeling his own emotion begin to get the better of him. “More than enough, every goddamn day.” You eagerly reached out to wrap your arms around Vance, reciprocating the embrace, you had needed so badly to hear him say that.
“Please don’t go,” you whispered, desperately needing to be in this moment as long as you could. Vance chuckled softly, pulling you closer to him.
“Not in a million years.”
