So because I’m a sucker for punishment, I’m looking at doing another series of Magic-inspired pieces of music like Mana Cycle. This time, however, I’m asking you all for inspiration.

I’m a big fan of Unyielding Krumar. The flavor text tells a story of family stronger than blood, an unbreakable bond that represents the Abzan as a whole. It does a lot for throwaway draft chaff. Personally, I collect them (up to 400 so far) and ask prominent Magic personalities to sign them, with the goal of creating a portrait of the Magic community. In Unyielding Krumar form.

Sorin indicated that the interference was an unforeseen consequence, which is as close to an apology as he ever gets. If Nahiri had truly considered him a friend, she should have understood and accepted that. Instead, she overreacted.

In other news, I expect someone to make NAHIRI WAS RIGHT and I STAND WITH SORIN teeshirts now. Please.

Artist proof with Black Thumb sketch contest!  Starts and ends today!

I feel like running a contest.  Want an artist proof with a sketch like this for free?  It’s super easy.  I’ll be posting a dozen artist proof sketches.  They all have the same theme.  They’ll get progressively more hinty.  The first person to guess the theme correctly gets one of them.  If you can also name the specific person/critter/thing for everything already posted, then you can have a sketch of your choice.  (So the theme gets easier, but the bonus gets harder.)

If nobody guesses it before the final image, then I keep all my proofs and my so very rare free time to myself.

Reblog with your guess to participate.  You can guess once per image posted.

An example guess would be “This is obviously from Bob’s Burgers.  This is the pet dog Legsever.”

Sorry folks, I was in Philadelphia over the weekend and, well, I also didn't have a deck ready. I'm beginning to think that a deck every week may be a bit much, so I'll have a deck for you this weekend, then alternate weeks with other random musings. Cerebral Vortex got me thinking. I don't like it when my opponents draw cards. Why not punish them for it? But wait, some opponents don't draw cards very often. Let's force them to draw cards, so my draw triggers can kill them! Yay! Muahahahahahaaaaaa...

When Bad Cards Go Good (and other news)

So here's the thing. I love Magic: the Gathering. No, really. I'm actually slightly obsessed.

My favorite thing to do is take cards that everyone else forgets about, like, say, Cerebral Vortex for example, and make them awesome.

So I'll be bringing you a deck every week (probably on Saturdays) that showcases the "bad cards" of Magic in a way you probably never thought of before. Unfortunately, my decklists are all missing right now, so I'll be back on Saturday with my Cerebral Vortex deck. I'll also throw in the occasional review or random musing, so stay tuned!
