Jayne wasnât about to leave. Heâd been around Mal too long, and his sense of selfishness and self-preservation over all else had very much faded, faded in light of Will, as well. Damn that gorram Browncoat, Jayne thought silently to himself. If he did leave, Zoeâd just tell him to get his ass back to Will, that they never leave anyone to go toe-to-toe, alone.
Willender was always so poised when she was shooting properly, straight backed and focused on her mark. Jayne just sat back and watched her. She was an unstoppable force when she had that face on, and Jayne just wished he couldâve seen her take out that retinue of Alliance lawmen from the sky, sitting on the edge of Serenityâs door. Instead, heâd been locked up, one part of the reason for Willâs stunt.
Bang!Squish. They were down, the first. Will glanced over at the stationery Jayne with a slight smirk flavouring her face. âYou remember Mal puttinâ me in charge? âCause I do. âN I gave yâ a direct order.â Will instead turned and led the way, swapping out her rifle for the automatic strapped to her leg. âShwai, yâ hear that?â She asked after a moment of silent walking. There were⌠noises amongst the ruins. Not echoes of their breath or feet, noises from outside of their own persons. Noises that made Will think of, âReavers.â She breathed.
âYâ been here four years. I been here...longer.â Jayne smirked back, âAinât no amount âf Mal puttinâ you in charge is gonna put yâ in charge. Iâll listen, if it suits, it makes sense, it wonât get my ass kicked by Zoe...â He shrugged, and loosened the guns around his person. Lux was in his hands, ready and waiting to bite. Then Will stopped, and Jayne almost ran right into her. He listened, and felt the panic and fear begin to seep in. Jayne wouldnât show that, though. Instead, he clenched his jaw, and took the lead. It had become too quiet before, not enough shouting and gun blasts... and now they knew why. Gorram Reavers still bouncing around the âverse, like a gorram plague. Every one that had a bullet put in it was better off that way,
Jayne - I really need to organize my thoughts.

Jayne laughed. âThink I donât know that? Been on this boat longer ân you, darlinâ.â Willâs deceptions with Galaea Greenstone had brought them a whole lot of money, but with the present company on the ship, accessing that money wasnât an option. It didnât bother Jayne so much. This is what he did, this is what he was good at. This was his life. âWeâre stayinâ low. I know yâ shoot better ân yâ have been.â He turned and grabbed Willâs wrist, so sheâd stop and listen. âStop pullinâ back.â
Will looked back over the half ruined wall, just a glance, at the people shooting at them. They were much the same as the crew of Serenity, just on a different ship. But Jayne was right. Theyâd spread brain matter and viscera if they got the chance. There would be no mercy, from them. Someone saw, and Will barely ducked back behind the wall in time, and felt the impact into thick metal next to her head. She pulled her wrist from Jayneâs hand, and wound her fingers through his. âYou go. Find River ân Zo. Iâll take these gorram back-berths out.â Her pistol slid easily back into the holster under her arm, and she slid her rifle off her back. âWhat yâ waitinâ for!? Go!â Will hissed, and pushed Jayne off with her foot.
The rifle barrel fit easily into a dent made by a high calibre bullet, and Will slowed her breathing to line up the first shot, the first victim in her sights.

âSeeinâ as how Iâve personally witnessed yâ almost die, and not, more times ân I wanna count, no.â Jayne sighed. Bullets flew all around them, and the blasts of guns made it near on impossible to talk. âSit your ass down, âfore yâ get a bullet tâ the brainpan. That ainât so easy tâ fix as a hole in the stomach, Will.Wonât be able tâ carry yâ back like that.â Willender frustrated Jayne no end. Constantly throwing herself at the danger to make sure she was the one hurt, not the others.
Will looked down at Jayne, stoic and determined. But she dropped, at his asking. How couldnât she, with those blue eyes looking up at her. âFine,â she groaned, âbut we gotta do somethinâ. We lose this, we donât get paid, Malâs gonna be pissed. Weâre gonâ be hungry.â She took the time to check over and reload her revolvers. The automatic pistol on her hip hadnât seen use yet, nor had her Anabelle - her rifle. âCâmon, shwai, donât look so worried about me.â
Jayne laughed. âThink I donât know that? Iconic Lines From Modern Media That Are Raw As Fuck
â Bold of you to assume I still have a soul. â
â I am a monument to all your sins. â
â Iâll do whatever you want. â
â Then perish. â
â Violence for violence is the rule of beasts. â
â To become god is the loneliest achievement of all. â
â I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me. â
â If the world chooses to become my enemy, I will fight like I always have. â
â I will face god and walk backwards into hell. â
â Everything that we know and love is reducible to the absurd acts of chemicals. â
â There is therefore no intrinsic value in this material universe. â
â All knowledge is ultimately based on that which we cannot prove. â
â Will you fight? Or will you perish like a dog? â
â Do you think God stays in heaven because he too, lives in fear of what he created? â
â Tell me the name of God. â
â Can you feel your heart burning? â
â Can you feel the struggle within? â
â The fear within me in beyond anything your soul can make. â
â You cannot kill me in any way that matters. â
â You kneel before my throne unaware that it was born of lies. â
â Violence in an art. Your body, the Louvre. â
â Even the godless end up worshiping something. â
â God wishes he were me. â
â One day, you will be face to face with whatever saw fit to let you exist in the universe, and you will have to justify the space youâve filled. â
â Take this gift, for the gods surely wonât. â
â Impudent of you to assume I will meet a mortal end. â
â This is hellâs territory and I am beholden to no gods. â
â Bury me shallow, Iâll be back. â
â There are no gods here. â
â Do I look like the kind of person who dies? â
â Godâs dead and soon we will be too. â
â I thought there were no heroes left in this world. â
â Iâve been through hell and came out singing. â
â Pick a god and pray. â
â Too many people have opinions of things they know nothing about. â
â Too many people have opinions of things they know nothing about. The more ignorant they are, the more opinions they have. â
â The more ignorant they are, the more opinions they have. â
â What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort? â
â Bold of you to assume I can die. â
* donât starters

â i donât think i can. âÂ
â donât say that. â
â you donât have to go. â
â donât be what they made you. â
â you donât have to be anyoneâs hero. â
â why donât you stay right here? âÂ

Yeah, well Jayne ainât a girl!
Iâm trying so hard to come back, but starting your own life up is hard! Getting wifi is usually the last thing on my mind, and we only have another month in this house. Starting a life for yourself, with a baby, is difficult. Especially when you only have a limited income and have to pay $620 a fortnight to live in your shithole house. Itâs not even a good shithole like Kirwall. Itâs bad. Like the Deep Roads.

âAinât exactly convenientâs what I call a lost shoe or a needle in my ass cheek. What we gotâs a major ruttinâ screw up.â
