I think what breaks my heart, isn’t that we didn’t work out. It’s that we walked away knowing neither one of us truly wanted to. It’s the fact that I always thought love was enough to fight for something, but that night I realized it’s not always enough. That no matter how much love there is between two souls, you need to set each other free. I’ll never forget how hard I cried that night. The hopeless romantic in me died.

We can't force someone to love us back. We can't force them to notice us like we always wanted. We can't force them to feel the unfamiliar feeling, I'm talking about the butterflies that we always felt when we got their attention, even if it's just a simple glance. We can't have them. And I guess that's the frustrating part of accepting the hard truth.
