It’s been an ugly weekend in Blue Jays land, and I’m still nursing a lot of residual sadness about Tulo retiring, but here’s BRAND NEW BIG LEAGUER BO BICHETTE talking about Tulo and it made me smile.

BTW someone pointed out that Bo’s making his debut four years to the day after Tulo’s first game as a Blue Jay. Time flies, man. 

And furthermore, here’s Tulo thanking members of the media in his official retirement conference call: 

I’m not gonna lie, that line about “I do care about your guys’ job and what you guys have to do” made me tear up a little. He’s got a gruff exterior, but he’s a sweetie inside.

Travis' lasting impact on Blue Jays, teammates

Rowdy Tellez quit baseball last year. When his mother Lori lost her battle with cancer in August, the 24-year-old infielder left the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons and headed home to California to be with his family. After some time there, Tellez decided that he wanted to stay, so he called the

Guys. This article appeared out of nowhere on my Twitter TL today, and it made me the happiest anything has in a long while. 

I don’t want to spoil the entire article (partly because Alexis Brudnicki is wonderful and deserves the clicks), but here are some of the highlights.

Devon Travis is:

Per Rowdy Tellez, possibly the sole reason Rowdy returned to baseball after his mom died. If you enjoyed watching Rowdy play half as much as I did last August/September, you have Devo to thank. 

Referred to by not one, not two, but FOUR current and former Blue Jays prospects as a ‘big brother’ (that’s every prospect interviewed in the article, FYI).

Someone who, despite having the WORST luck with getting hurt, manages to lift the spirits of every other player recovering from injuries.

An absolute gem of a human being (my own conclusion, given the evidence presented here). 

I’m going to be smiling about this article for the rest of the week (and probably posting quotes pulled from it for that long, too).

Matt Shoemaker made four starts for my team this year. FOUR. 

And I’d totally jump in front of a herd of bulls if he was in danger of being trampled. 

This guy is still limping his ass out to the bullpen every game so he can walk in with the other pitchers, he’s still celebrating at the plate after a walkoff (evidence), he’s still posting optimistic speeches on Twitter, and strolling around the Dome, meeting fans and being delightful when he has EVERY RIGHT to have taken off home to his wife, kids, and dog, to lick his wounds and feel sorry for himself.

I mean, how can you help but root for a guy like that?
