Now this is a great way to market the show! I love hearing from a local artist and dancer that I actually know personally because that is where I did the last years of my dance training before college. What do you think are other ways to market a live performance? Do you think hearing from the producer himself would make more people come out to the show? Having a local artist that has made it to the big shots interest you more in the show?

I found this study to be very interesting even though it was more focused on sports, but it still gets my idea across. Even with sporting events people watch more on tv than going to the live game. Maybe because of ticket prices? Being sold out? Travel expenses?

If anyone is interested in attending any live performances here is a great place to look at different shows! It has dance, theatre, etc to find! The prices aren’t as high, but it also depends on where you want to sit and enjoy the show! I would love to attend so many of these shows! Which shows would you like to attend? Would you travel to NYC to watch them or try cities closer to your hometown?

This really sadness my heart. How many New York City Ballet performances go on Groupon? I think this goes perfectly along with the fact that people do not want to go out to see live performances as much as they used to because they can watch certain things on different social media outlets. The fact that this show is selling their tickets for less money is because they are not getting the ticket sales that they had hoped for. Do you agree? Why else would this performance be on Groupon? Maybe a good marketing technique just to get the word out about the show?
I believe so much in the power of performance I don't want to convince people. I want them to experience it and come away convinced on their own.

This is another great article talking about the copying of choreography of different dances. I just think it is crazy that people have copied others works and just get away with it. Do you think it is okay for people to get away with this copying mess? How do you think it should be taken care of?

This is a great article on copying choreography. If gives great tips on how to not copy and how to determine if there has been some copying done.
I always watch videos of dance on YouTube to help me come up with ways to teach kids, some new moves, or basically anything in between. I personally have never copied anything, but have taken a basic idea and turned it into my own.
I do think that social media like YouTube has made it a lot easier for people to copy others dances. How do you think we should come up with new ideas other than watching things on social media?
If you're a K-pop fan on Tumblr, reblog this.

K Hip-Hop is a newer style of Hip Hop dance. I wouldn’t have found this new style if it was not for technology. I think that technology helps everyone no matter what your job is find new outlets. Social media brings out the new trends for everything in life. These are just some very short clips of some groups of K Hip-Hop.
Does social media help you in your field? Do you use social media more for social or for work?
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of the most renowned dance companies in the world
I love this company! This particular company ask that when you come to their shows to not record their dances.
Do you think that it is appropriate for companies to ask people to not record shows? Do you wait till the show is on social media to watch it so you do not have to pay for it? I actually went to a show recently for this company and a girl from Old Dominion was recording parts of the show and posting the videos onto her personal Instagram page. Do you think the company found out? f so do you think she got into any sort of trouble?
contemporary piece choreographed by travis wall
nominated for an emmy
This is one of my favorite choreographers and one of the pieces he did for the hit show So You Think You Can Dance! He has been nominated for many Emmy’s and recently he just won his first Emmy!
I think this show over the past few years has opened up people’s eyes and minds about dancers. Do you watch this show? Would you go see So You Think You Can Dance on tour with their top 20 dancers from the season?

DANCING TOOLS
While production technology for theatre also applies to dance concerts, the field of dance has also embraced technology in other fundamental ways. “Dance practitioners see video, motion capture, and the many digital systems of editing human motion as extensions of our abilities to mobilize ourselves in space,” said Peter Sparling, the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Dance. “But these spaces are no longer strictly confined to the dance studio or stage. We can dance for many cameras at once, appear on multiple screens, and be wired for our motion. We can appear instantaneously on screens all over the globe. We can re-choreograph our motions while editing in Final Cut Pro, or drop our bodies into any simulated environment.”
Technology has also expanded audiences and provided vast opportunities for distance learning. Students can watch dancers anywhere around the globe, take classes from an artist in Berlin or Beijing, or Skype with an alumna in Amsterdam—all of which they have done.
"Screendance"—a diverse range of work that combines choreographic and film/video practice—is now an important part of SMTD’s dance curriculum. Students make their own dances for the screen, which become their screen identity, acting as “calling cards” on their personal websites, and introducing them to professionals in the field and potential new job opportunities. “Their skill sets cross over to the film and television industries, to movement science and rehabilitation, and to all aspects of marketing and public relations,” said Sparling.
In order to keep pace with the rapidly developing technology in the dance field to extend students' creative capacities, the Department of Dance has defined its goals for the future: creating “smart” classrooms/studios with video projection capability (screen, projector, DVD player/computer compatibility, and audio); cameras for students and faculty use; editing suites with Final Cut Pro and the latest software; studio space with lighting for high-quality video; and a library archive comprising all departmental productions as well as a curated selection of professional works.
“Video recordings of technique class exercises, student productions, or composition studies become the tools for study, critique, and remodeling—just as they’re employed in making prized athletes more skilled in their performance,” said Sparling. “Students and faculty alike are engaged in productions that combine live dance with video backdrops; the real and the virtual interact in a pas de deux that has everything to say about our identities in a complex world.”
Introduction
I am using my page for my class this summer semester. My name is Jessica. I am senior at Old Dominion University.
My topic for my class is.... How is Social Media Affecting the Attendance of Live Dance Shows?
I hope to figure out if social media (videos, Instagram, Facebook, etc) have a positive influence or if it come off more negative. Maybe there are some copyright issues going on in the world of dance because of social media?
I don’t know yet, but hopefully from this page we will get to find out together!
