It is ridiculous how unregulated and unmonitored midwives are in some places. This will infuriate anyone with any experience with Ob/gyn.
I can get used to living with a cat
Pink tools make this process significantly less manly
Detroit days
To be honest, I already knew my day with Dr. awesome was going to be awesome. Shadowing a neurosurgeon that specializes in the brainstem, the delicate and precarious Pandora’s box of the nervous system, was bound to be worthwhile no matter how it went.
So I started working in the hospital and legitimately interesting things are happening in my life.
When Finals/Shelfs is less than 1 week away
Or STEP 1
When asked what residency I'm applying to during third year
True
Has any ob/gyn ever called themselves gynomite? Cuz that should have happened by now.
Honestly, at this point I just want to do well at whatever I end up doing.
Medical school is not a religion. Sure it takes over one’s life, colors one’s perception of the world, and makes for uncomfortable dinner conversation, but it’s not a religion. That being said, it is definitely like a religion...
Learned this the other day in BioPsych:
The reason why flashcards are a great way to memorize concepts and terms is because when you study with them, you make your brain work hard to retrieve information from your memory. The more you do this, the better it stays in your long-term memory.
—> To remember things better, you must make yourself retrieve that information several times. This is also the reason why simply reading over your notes a thousand times won’t help you study. Because you’re not working hard to retrieve any information, the info is not consolidated in your long-term memory and stays in your working memory (only up to 5 seconds max).
P.S. Sorry about the long absence! Last couple weeks of the quarter are crazy.
I think this is a good theory on maximizing memorization, but the example of using flash cards falls somewhat short. Ultimately I think doing practice questions is the best way to maximize the above principle. Not only do they force you to recall a piece of information, but they require recalling multiple pieces of information simultaneously, each competing to be the right answer. Add in the red herrings an tricky wording that test makers consciously insert to push you away from the right answer, this adds another layer you must learn and get used to. Also, flash cards are made from what you think is important, not what the test maker thinks is important and ultimately the latter is what actually matters. Finally, you don’t have to make practice questions as they are made for you so you get an efficiency bonus. Ultimately my re-post refers specifically to medical school as college doesn’t have the same amount of practice resources, but I feel this aspect of medical school deserves this distinction to be made, especially for aspiring first years who want to make flash cards.
Nothing makes me feel more welcome than, "Was I supposed to have a medical student today? Is he with me all day?" *exasperated sigh*
No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your ‘religious freedom.’ If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it. Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.

I actually agree about this 100% and it’s freaking me out.

Time to jump on this justified gravy train
Time flies when your having fun because the world sucks like that.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and exponentially more ways to do a neuro exam
