Rare Rain Writing for the last day of @jbm-week! The prompt for this was Nightmare
Be warned thereâs angst here
Musichetta woke screaming. She sat up gasping for breath in the dark. Instinctively she reached out beside her but her hands met nothing but the empty sheet. Tears began to fall and her whole body shook with sobs. She suddenly felt a set of strong arms wrap around her and she collapsed into their familiar comfort. Another more slender hand reached to grasp her hand.
âChetta darling, what's wrong?â Joly whispered, running his thumb soothingly along her hand. Still shaking, she tried to explain the dream, the gunshots, the blood.
âShh, its alright weâre here now,â Bossuet said, pulling her closer.
âStay with meâ she said, burying her face into Bossuetâs chest and clutching Jolyâs hand like a lifeline. She felt them both grip her tighter in response. âWeâre here,â he repeated, coaxing her to lay back down. Musichetta let her eyes close and slowly her breathing returned to normal as she laid with her boys on either side of her.
The sun streamed through the window that morning when Musichetta awoke in a bed that was much too empty and made her heart ache. As she sat up she remembered. It was June 7th, and she was alone. The bed would never be full again.
Bossuet sat up with a start, gasping for breath as the blankets tangled around his limbs.
"Eagle?" Joly's sleepy voice reached his ears, and he almost sobbed with relief to hear it. His partner lifted his head from the pillow, squinting blearily at him. "What's wrong?"
"Just a bad dream," Bossuet mumbled, wrapping his arms around him. "Don't worry about it."
"What was it about?" Musichetta asked, reaching over to lay her hand on his knee.
"Something happened to you and Joly," Bossuet swallowed hard. "And it was just my luck that I couldn't do anything but watch."
"Well you can tell your dreams to fuck off," Joly murmured sleepily. "Because we won't let that happen, right Chetta?"
"Right." Musichetta nodded, tangling her fingers in Bossuet's as he lay back down.

âGet back here, âChetta, youâre going to catch a cold!â Joly cried.
Musichetta just hummed a tune and did a spin. The rain beat down against the umbrella Joly held, and Bossuet kept giving glances between Musichetta and Joly, as if deciding whether he wanted to join in his girlfriendâs fun or keep his boyfriend free of worry. Musichetta noticed the way his foot tapped in rhythm to the tune she was humming, like a metronome.
âIâll be okay, Joly. A cold isnât the end of the world.â She returned. With a grin still wide on her face, she jumped excitedly in a puddle left on the sidewalk, grimacing playfully when the cold water splashed up onto her pants. Bossuet gave an affectionate sigh and nudged Joly in the side.
âSheâs going to ask to steal my coat on the way home, isnât she?â
Joly huffed. Musichetta scrunched up her face and blew raspberries in the boysâ direction. âI can hear you, you know!â
âWe know, dear.â Bossuet gave calmly, still eyeing the puddles like he wanted to jump in them as well. Joly was practically staring a hole into the side of his head, as if to say âdonât do it, if you both get sick i will end you.â
A moment of contemplation was given on the subject, Musichetta could tell. Eventually, though, when she called for him to join her, he seemed to finally pick his side.
âBossuet, please? Iâm so lonely. Come hang out with me.â Said Musichetta.
âBossuetttttt.â Warned Joly.
Bossuet looked between the both of them, gave a sigh, and slowly stepped out from beneath the umbrella. Joly gave him a look of betrayal.
âYou didnât.â He gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. Bossuet chuckled lightly.
âI did. Apologies, Joly.â He gave, and with that, he walked over to greet his girlfriend. She gave an excited, high pitched noise and threw her arms around his neck.
âOh, I love you, I love you, I love you.â Musichetta sung. Bossuet placed one hand on her hip and twisted a strand of her hair around a finger on the other.
âI love you too, âChetta,â He gave, lips moving against the crown of her head. It was a moment of their gentle swaying and Jolyâs jealous watching before she pulled back, and Bossuet took the opportunity to drop his hands to his sides and cast his face towards the sky to engage in the sensation of the rain falling on his face. Musichetta wondered if being bald made the rain feel weird upon his head. She had asked him, beforeâ he only chuckled and took a sip of his tea. He hadnât answered.
âJolyyy.â She tried again. He cast her a look that said everything his mouth was about to, but she attempted anyways. âHang out with us. Please? Because you love us?â
âIâm going to catch a cold.â He repeated for maybe the millionth time.
âYou wonât. Youâll be fine. Either way, if you do, it isnât the end of the world. You wonât die from a cold.â
âYou donât know that. People used to die of it, you know.â
âUsed to, darling.â Musichetta shook her head to send the water from her hair flying all over the place. âWe have modern medicine. Youâre a doctor. You should know this.â
Joly just gave a presumptious âhmph!â noise, walking over to the side of the walkway that had a collection of rocks. As he crouched down to examine them, Musichetta had hardly started another plea before coming to his side to see what he was looking at.
âWhatâcha lookinâ at?â
âRocks.â
âWhy?â
âI need to put one in the umbrella. Itâll fly off in this wind if thereâs not something weighing it down.â He huffed. Musichetta frowned, confused, before realization hit her and her face lit up.
âYouâre joining us?!â She cheered. He just gave a faint smile in return.
âYes, youâve won my heart over. Now, help me find an adequate rock.â
âBossuet!â She called, crouching down beside Joly. âWeâre rock hunting!â
He came to her side quickly, crouching down beside the two. âHuh? Why are we rock hunting?â
âJolyâs going to join us.â She smiled. âHe wants to weigh down the umbrella with a rock. Weâre finding an adequate one.â
âOh, how fun!â
Over the course of the next five minutes, Bossuet and Musichetta had shown a couple of rocks to Joly, and after fawning over their smoothness or color, he had discarded them with a complaint about how they werenât heavy enough, or how they had sharp edges that would rip the umbrella.
Eventually, though, Bossuet held out a stone in both hands. It was white. Or, near-white, with little grey markings. It was big enough to occupy both of Bossuetâs relatively large hands as it glistened with water atop its smooth surface. Joly made a noise of excitement at the sight of it.
âOh, thatâs gorgeous! And so smooth! This is it. This is it!â
Bossuet grinned at the sight of excitement upon his loverâs face, and Musichetta had to admit she did the same. When Joly upturned the umbrella to place it on the ground, wincing at the rain finally hitting him and his dry clothes, Bossuet gently lowered the rock into the upside-down umbrella to hold it steady while Joly didnât attend to it.
Joly stood stiffly as the water slowly soaked his shirt, darkening near the shoulders and the back. When Bossuet took one of his hands, Musichetta took the other, and together, they walked away from the umbrella and into the rain.
âNeither of us can. Neither Ferre nor I. Conflict of interest; plus weâre not exactly qualified.â Joly sighed and took the coffee Bahorel handed to him. âThanks.â
âNo problem. If you ever need any help with anythingââ
âYeah, yeah. I know. Thank you.â
âHowâs Musichetta holding up?â
âNot well. Same kind her dad got, so sheâs reasonably worried. Itâs all taking a toll on her.â
âAnd on you. Fuck cancer, man.â
âFuck cancer.â
âHeâll be fine. And even if he isnât fine, weâre all here. Weâre on your side.â
"Chetta, Joly, you should join me!" Bossuet whooped as he jumped into a puddle on the side of their driveway, laughing as the water splashed up around him. He grinned at Joly and Musichetta, both huddled under a large umbrella as they watched him fondly. "C'mon, now long has it been since we've seen rain like this?"
"Nearly a month now," Joly replied, looking up at the sky with a weary expression. "My joins are rioting."
"I think I'll stay under the umbrella too," Musichetta chuckled, shaking her head at Bossuet. "You're going to be soaked to the bone."
"Well, there's not room for three under the umbrella, so I might as well enjoy it!" Bossuet teased, knowing there was plenty of room under the umbrella for him.
Based on something @littlefallof-rain said and I was like "Omg I gotta write that"
"I can't find my shoe," Joly's hair was mussed from him running his fingers through it as he stood in the doorway, taking deep breaths to try and control his panic. "I've looked everywhere, and it's not there!"
"Joly, it'll be fine," Bossuet soothed, walking over to fix his hair, pressing a kiss to the top of his head as he did so.
"But we'll be late!" Joly wailed, leaning into his partner's side.
"And?" Musichetta turned around from where she was standing in front of a full length mirror, making both men gasp over how beautiful she was in her fancy white dress. "It's not like they can start without us."
"I guess not," Joly managed a watery smile. "It would be hard to have a wedding without the bride and grooms."
